pwcopy
One month ago, I brought home a 2016 2.0T FWD with the Reserve Package. The ODO rolled past 25k on the journey from the dealership in Ohio to my home outside Pontiac, Michigan. In as-new condition, it is, as old used car dealers used to say, a "creampuff." Last Thursday, a couple of co-workers and I went to lunch, and part of the deal was a ride in my MKZ. Last night when I got in the car, I noticed a tear in the bottom cushion of the passenger seat, in the center panel. Nobody has sat in it since Thursday lunch. Could something in a pocket do this? I think the perf leather is feels flimsy and I guess this proves me right. The car is still under warranty. Any recourse with a dealer? (Can't go back to Ohio.) I'll go to my local Lincoln dealer next week. If I get no satisfaction there, I know an outstanding upholstery guy, Any suggestions are welcome. Many thanks for your help, PW
drolds1
I'd have to say that it was something in a pocket. I've had 2 Lincoln LSes and 4 MKZs with the perforated Bridge of Weir leather and haven't had this happen. I don't find the leather flimsy at all. It doesn't cost anything to ask but I don't think that Lincoln will cover this under warranty. I'd just have the upholstery guy repair it. pwcopy
My Lincoln is a base model. No BoW leather. Thanks for your reply.
bbf2530
Hi pwcopy.. I would agree with drolds. That looks like something punctured/cut it. I have 2007 and 2018 MKZ's, both with perforated leather seating. Neither has had any issues. I also agree with drolds that although they will likely say it was punctured/cut and not covered (and probably rightly so), it does not hurt to ask your Lincoln Dealer if there is any Warranty recourse Let us know how you make out and good luck. Unless there is some sort of shortage due to the pandemic, perforated leather is most certainly available, as I had a seat reupholstered only 2 years ago. And part of it was with perforated leather. Google "Automotive upholstery shops in my area". And if perforated leather is not available in your area for some reason, an upholsterer can order perforated vinyl to match. Have also had that done in the past. You will not be able to tell the difference between the vinyl and leather, and the vinyl is much less expensive. The quality of automotive vinyl products has come a long way. Let us know how you make out and good luck.
