Instrument panel lights issues

Help please

Recommended Posts

I have a 2010 Lincoln MKZ. When the headlights are set to automatic, the lighting on the radio, a/c and heat and steering wheel lights do not work.  Also, the tail lights won't work or the bright lights but all work when I set the headlights on a manual setting.  When I took it in to the dealership (during the day and it's very hard to see then) told me there was nothing wrong with my lights...uh wrong!  Any ideas what could cause this?

I'm not familiar with the 2010 so I tried looking up the owners manual on the Lincoln site but being that it would not respond I went here

https://www.manualslib.com/manual/94831/Lincoln-2010-Mkz.html?page=54#manual

Looking at pages 53 & 54 it talks about the proper position of the headlamp switch for various functions. In your describing of the symptom, it almost sounds you are activating the DRLs  rather then the Autolamp function

Just a thought

I had a 2010. They didn't have DRLs.   Only Canadian cars had them.

What do you mean with "do not work"?. ie: Autolamp means the lights come on when it's dark outside. They do not come on when it's bright. This also means the interior lights will not come on. They too will only come on when it's dark enough. So do they come on at night?

I thought it was assumed that the OP was talking about nighttime conditions.  If not, then there's nothing further to discuss.  In addition,  if Autolamp was on, the lights should have come on if they pulled the car into the shop.  They always shut them off when they pull the car into the service bay for that reason.

Hi guys.  Just on a side note: DRL's can be enabled by the Dealership, on US spec MKZ's.

And to the OP...just on the off chance, have you tried adjusting the dash lighting using the knob/buttons while it was night time and the system was set to "AUTO"? Just wondering if it may affect the issue. Try it and get back to us.

Good luck.
