MKZ Seat movement/noise (TSB)

I had noticed what I felt was a shifting of the front seat when, let's say, whipping around a corner.  It only feels like a very small shift (Very small) to either side, depending on the direction of the 'G-force'. p0502.gif It's not an everyday occurrence, but I do notice it from time to time.  I thought it couldn't be really happening, but then I came across a TSB on the issue.  The remedy is certainly a low tech one for sure.

Just wondering if anyone else noticed this in their vehicles?  It affects 2013-2019 MKZ, as well as a bunch of other Lincoln and Ford vehicles.  I guess I'll mention this to the dealer when I have my speaker replaced soon.

Glad to see this post.  I thought I was losing my mind.  I would feel the seat shift every three or four times I would drive the car.  Nothing major, just a little click as described in the TSB.  Thought maybe I was putting on weight!  ?     Will have them look at it on my next maintenance visit...

Mine started doing that two shortly after I got it. Had the dealer take a look. They said there was a broken part in the seat back and they replaced it under warranty. They also tightened it up to the floor. Have not had a problem in three years.

The 2013s had a recall for seat frames:

Quote

Recall Number

14V164000

Recall Date

04/02/2014

Component

SEATS:FRONT ASSEMBLY:RECLINER

Summary

Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain model year 2013-2014 Ford Fusion and Lincoln MKZ vehicles manufactured August 15, 2012, through September 10, 2013, 2013-2014 Ford Escape vehicles manufactured June 5, 2012, through August 12, 2013, and 2013-2014 Ford C-Max vehicles manufactured from July 23, 2012, through May 28, 2013. The driver and passenger seatback assemblies may have been produced with sub-standard weld joints used to attach the seat back recliner mechanism to the seat frame. The affected seat backs may have insufficient strength to meet the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 207, "Seating Systems."

Consequence

The back of the subject seats may become loose or lean while driving and potentially increase the risk of injury in certain crashes.

What Owners Should Do

Ford will notify owners, and dealers will replace the seatback, free of charge. The recall began on May 30, 2014. Owners may contact Ford at 1-800-392-3673. Ford's number for this recall is 14C03.

Lincoln apparently has continuing problems with seat suppliers.  My 2014's right side bolster on the driver's seat broke away internally when I sat up to get something out of my pocked and put pressure on it when I leaned to the right.

Last time I brought my car in for service, I fully explained what was going on, and informed them of the TSB.  They said they gave the seat a software update, of course that was pure BS  ? , and as soon as I took off, sure enough, the damn seat did it again.  Today it went in for an oil change, and informed the new service advisor about the issue & TSB, and now the parts are ordered.  Thats funny, I could pick up the two inches of heater hose and two #10 hose clamps at ? Home Depot ? and deliver it today.  But whatever, parts are coming on Monday, so I'll use the 2.0 loaner for the weekend (My decision), and I'll appreciate my 3.0 on Monday...or Tuesday.

He said this is the first time they will be performing the TSB at the dealership.

Follow up:

They performed the TSB back in late March, picked up the car and it felt like nothing changed, pretty much felt the shift/clunk right away.  My car sat for 46 days, CV19 quarantine, then I started using it again, and of course no change.  Since my dealer closed on June 1st, I'll bring the issue up with the new dealership when going in for service, hopefully they can fix it correctly.  I can obviously live with it until then...

Another update on the seat issue, my new Lincoln dealer performed the TSB repair on both front seats back in March of 2021, and the movement or clunk feeling is now gone.

My previous Lincoln dealer didn't install the parts back on March of 2020, they simply lied to me and said they did.

Thankfully they closed down in June 2020 and I now deal with a good Lincoln dealership.
