Automatic settings?

I just purchased a 2017 MKZ Premier. It is awesome and has a great ride. Love it so far.

  1. Is there a way to turn on the seats from from the display? In my Ram truck I can turn on the seats from the screen and I was wondering if the MKZ could do the same.
  2. Are the heated seat supposed to come on automatically if it is cold outside? Again my trucks seats look at the outside temp and if it is cold outside the heated seats turn on. It doesn't do that for the steering wheel but it does for the seats. Does the MKZ do that as well? I've looked on line, in the manual, etc. and I can't find anything.
  3. Can the brake assist be set to come on when the car is started as well? Mine does not switch on when the car starts. I actually like the feature but I would like it to come on all the time.

Thanks in advance.

Welcome to the forums, Stardaddyed.  Enjoy your MKZ.  It is awesome!

1.By "turn on," I assume you mean the climate control function, not the multi-contour function.  In the former case, no. You must use the switches.  It can't be done via the touchscreen.

2. The  climate controlled seats and heated steering wheel will come on if you select that feature in the Remote Start menu.  Also, they will come on if they were activated when you last shut the car off.

3. The Auto Hold can only be activated with the switch.  It defaults to off when the car is shut off.  IDK if Forscan could make that happen.  It would be nice if they copied how M-B does it; you just press the brake pedal all the way down when stopped and the Auto Hold is activated.

" also, they will come on if they were activated when you last shut the car off."

I can't figure this out on my '14. I always have to hit the seats and wheel buttons after I start vehicle. One of the few annoyances I have with my "14. What am I missing?

So a follow up on what I "discovered" for MY vehicle.

  1. No software switch is OK just didn't know ( thanks droid1).
  2. On the remote start, the heaters and climate control do come on but the lights do not come on to indicate that.  When I "start" the car (when you get in), everything shuts off.  I have to manually turn everything back on.  Also if you start the car with the button the seats and steering wheel does not turn on.  The climate control does come on either case. Now I have found here and other places online that might indicate that the issue may be a software bug that may be resolved by a dealer reset or by disconnecting the battery thus initiating a reboot.  I will try that and let everyone know.
  3. Shoot on the autobrake.  I would think it is a dangerous method of implementation.  If you use it you would get used to it.  If you forgot to put in on one time you could inadvertently roll someplace to you don't want to be!

Thanks for the help!

On my 2017, I set the auto temp to 'med'.  I remote start the car and let it run for 10-15 minutes.  Nice and toasty when I get in.  But, when I 'start' the car, seat is heated to 3 lights, and steering wheel heat is 'on'.  There are times where I purposely shut those 2 things off when I head in for the night, but they seem to go back to full when I physically start the car.  I am assuming this happens because I have the auto feature on.  Maybe this happens with certain auto settings.

As an aside, every once in a while, if the car is left facing the sun or I have been driving a while and the interior is all warmed up, when I restart after a short amount of time, the a/c for the seats engages.  Rare, but it happens.

Not sure if this is to what you were referring.

Last Settings

You can set the climate control to operate using the last climate control settings through the information display setting:

Remote Start >

Climate Control >

Heater–A/C > Last Settings.

The climate control system automatically uses the settings last selected before turning off the vehicle

Automatic Settings

You can set the climate control to operate in AUTO mode through the information display setting:

Remote Start >

Climate Control >

Heater-A/C > Auto.

The climate control system automatically sets the interior temperature to 72°F (22°C).

In cold weather, the system is set to 72°F (22°C). The heated seats and heated steering wheel are set to high (if available, and selected to AUTO in the information display). The rear defroster and heated mirrors automatically turn on.

You are all aware that those settings only apply to "remote start"? They do not apply when you start your car normally. ie: Don't expect the seat heater to turn on when you enter the car and start it with the standard starter button.

Do you mean that 'last settings' only apply after you remote start and then button start the car?

Yes, the seats and wheel heaters do not come in in cold weather when remote starting.

Mine come on at startup if they were on when the car was shut down, remote start or not.

My 18 turns on either heated or ventilated seats and heated steering wheel when using remote start, depending on outside temperature of course.  That with either 'Auto' or 'Last Settings' in the menu selected.  It doesn't matter whether I shut the seats and steering wheel off when I last shut the car down, because I almost always do.

That's the whole point of using remote start, get the engine warmed up, and the seats too.

When getting in and pressing the 'Start' button to initially start my car, the seats and steering wheel are not activated.  I guess they figure with your a$$ in the seat, you can reach the buttons and do what you want.  That's with me shutting it all down when I turned it off last.  I'll test with leaving it all on soon...

But yeah, in the 'Remote Start' menu, there is an option to activate the seats and steering wheel, or not activate.

Below are the menu options for Remote Start, at least in the 17-19 MKZ.

On  my '17, when I remote start, everything gets heated.  When I button start after remote start, seats goes on 3 red, and wheel goes yellow and stay on till I shut them off.  If I do not use remote and just button start, I need to manually press buttons to engage seats and wheel.

I don't think I have ever remote started my 2014... no engine to really warm up (hybrid) and the last thing I need down here is heated seats ?

However when I had the 2013 with the 2.0 turbo, I believe I had started it remotely (for the A/C to come on) and also lowered the widows remotely to let the steam out ?

-30 with wind in upstate NY.   Don't need heated seats.? Gonna need them tonite.  You'tr supposed to have 43 degrees with NE wind about 10 mph.  That's gonna feel like 35 degrees.  Better read the manual about remote starting with settings. :)

I'm with Chris109 with this, my '19 does the same with the driver seat & wheel after you pushed the start button, but my '16 did not. I don't want them to stay on after I push the button, but I do like them to come on during the remote start. So, in this regard I'm with Fusionff on this feature.

So, that said, if I change it to Last Settings will the seats/wheel default to where they were set when the car was last shut off?

As an aside, even during a Chicago winter I cannot keep the seats on past level 1. Level 3 is WAY too hot!

I always use last settings.  When remote starting,  the seats turn on level 3, and the steering wheel turns on, no matter what I last had it set at (or off).

The meaning of 'Last  Settings' seems to be the temperature setting only.

I was referring to last night with wind chill.  But, if you are retired, you are off the road by 4 pm and don't get behind the wheel until 10 am, so you probably didn't know about the chill.

As an aside, one can always tell when someone is a transported NYers in Fl.  They wear shorts when it is 60 degrees and they have garages instead of carports.

And where do you get the emojis?  I'm limited to 13 weird ones.

Well, seeing that I'm just a plebe, I'll just have to use the "Live Long and Prosper" emoji.  ?
