CAPofMD
Has anyone heard what the difference is between the 2012 MKZ and the 2013-16's as far as the exploding airbags go? Do you know if the Takata Airbags are REALLY different in these years?
1984Poke
I wouldn’t chance it. If your Z is on the list, contact your dealership for the fix.

The difference between those vehicles with airbags which are recalled and those which are not recalled is simply the batch of explosive inflators which were installed in each. Recalled ones were defective, non-recalled ones were not. Hope this helps answer your question. Good luck.
CAPofMD
I was just wondering if in reality that most ALL Takata bags are faulty and they (FoMoCO) is just stretching out the recalls so they'll be able to handle the problems. Sure wouldn't be the first time they've done it. It wouldn't surprise me. Guess I'll start worrying about it if/when my '15 gets a notice. Thanks for your answer. ? JoeBrown
I went to the NHTSA site and ran the VIN on my 2014 MKz 3.7L AWD and It shows no recalls. That should mean that I'm in the clear right?

Ford and other automakers are not stretching out the recall. Takata went bankrupt due to the recall. Therefore, all automakers had to source a new supplier/suppliers, who then had to design and ramp up production of new airbags for all affected automakers. And there were a lot. Are all the Takata airbags in those time periods bad/dangerous? No. However, there is no way to weed out the bad ones, other than production dates of the affected inflation modules and the airbags they were manufactured with. So they all need to be recalled. If you don't get a notice, you're safe (if you purchased new or have registered your car with Ford if you purchased used). Although if you are worried, you can call your Ford Dealers Service Department or the Ford Customer Relations number and give them your VIN. Hope that better answers your question. Either through your Dealers Service Department or the Ford Customer Relations. Let us know how you make out and good luck.
