MKZ Recall - Floor Mat Problem

Recommended Posts

In Ford's massive recall just announced, almost 83,000 MKZ's, Zephyrs, Fusions, and Milans are being recalled due to floor mats that may interfere with the accelerator pedal.  This affects 2006 through 2011 vehicles.  You can see the article at finance.yahoo.com/news/ford.

I'd rather this be a simple floor mat recall than something mechanically problematic.  Does everyone get new floor mat? :)

This isn't so much a recall, as it is Lincoln warning people against their own stupidity.

It's only for those cars that came from the factory with All-Weather (Rubber) floor mats.

"An improperly installed Ford all weather floor mat (either not secured to the retention device, double
stacked, or secured to a single retention device but grossly out of position) could move and may
interfere with the accelerator pedal, potentially inhibiting its return to idle, and increasing the risk of a
crash."

So in other words, if you have your floor mat installed correctly, there's no danger.

Don't stack an all-weather floor mat on top of your standard carpet mat.  If they were installed that way when you took delivery, undo it.

No big deal.

My 2010 MKZ was delivered with the all-weather mats on top of the regular mats!  I tossed them right back into the trunk, which is how they come from the factory.

My 2012 had a different retention system from the 2010.  The former had two lugs that grommets in the mat snapped over (as in the 2013-4)  and the latter had a single hook.  No doubt this change was made in the wake of the Toyota entrapped floor mat debacle.

Yes, some common sense goes a long way here.

Since they can't fix STUPID, I have to wonder how Ford will "fix" this "problem", other than try to educate the idiots that don't know how to install a floor mat.  :kookie:

There was a similar problem with the Toyota Camry, Toyota's 'fix' was to cut off the bottom of the gas pedal.
