Recommended Posts

I have a 2014 Lincoln MKZ Hybrid with the Technology Package. I noticed when I unlock the door remotely. The welcome light come on. I prefer to just walk up and the welcome light just come on by themselves . I have look for this option in the software. No success. Can anyone help? If this is not a option, then the other question would be. Can a update be done?

Hi Ruben.  Moving this question to the "Glass, Lenses, Lighting Moonroof" subforum.

The "Forum Help and Suggestions" forum is for help and suggestions concerning the MKZ Forum itself.

Concerning your question: It is possible on the 2018's (and I am assuming the 2017's), but I am not sure about the 2013-2016 models. Have you checked your Owners Manual for instructions on the welcome lighting settings?

Hopefully another member will jump in with more information.

I also have a question regarding the welcome lighting...…….

I have a 2017 Explorer that the puddle lights come on every time the door is opened...…...does the mkz not have that feature?

I have a 2020 and it appears that the welcome light comes on only after the car has been unlocked & the mirrors folded

Hi bnewt. The Owners Manual explains how and when the welcome mat and welcome lighting operates. Unless something was changed for the 2020 model year, the welcome mat and other welcome lighting should illuminate when you approach the car. Perhaps 9-10 feet away.

However, the "Welcome Mat" will only do so if you have the Welcome Lighting enabled in the Driver Information Center setting, and when the mirrors are folded in. It will not illuminate if/when the mirrors are out in the driving position.

At least, that is how the system works on my 2018. Again, however, your Owners Manual will tell you exactly how the system works in your 2020.

If yours does not seem to be operating correctly, you should make a service appointment, or bring it to the attention of the Service Department on your next service visit.

Let us know how you make out and good luck.

just seems like the way the explorer functions is better.....at least to me, but I guess I will have to live with the MKZ's setup

Hi bnewt. Does your Explorer have automatically folding side-view mirrors?

In other words, side-view mirrors that fold automatically as soon as the doors are closed/locked, or locked/closed?

yes , I have them set that way

I just assumed that the MKZ would operate the same way as my Explorer Limited, with the puddle lights come on

every time the doors open

Hi bnewt. You did not give us much information. Pretend we don't know anything about what you are talking about (because we don't). Please give more detail as to what is happening as opposed to what you think should be happening and when. Are you talking about when you are getting into the car...getting out of the car...both? When the mirrors are folded, when they are not folded? We don't know what you are trying to describe.

How it works in the MKZ: The Welcome Mat only illuminates when the mirrors are folded. Is your Welcome Mat illuminating when the mirrors are folded?

And you did not answer the question about whether your Explorer has automatically folding mirrors. If it has automatically folding mirrors, does the Welcome Mat illuminate when they are folded or extended? Is it a Welcome Mat like the MKZ, or is it simply a light illuminating the ground? An asymmetrical "Welcome Mat" like our cars have can only face the correct direction with the mirrors in one position...either folded or extended. Otherwise, it will be sideways in the other position.

This is why more information is important. Provide more information and we may be able to help.

Good luck.

Yes I did answer the ? about my explorer....see my post above your reply

but I will answer again....yes the explorer mirrors fold upon locking & unfold upon unlocking...puddle lights appear at both

BUT the explorer puddle lights appear EVERY TIME the doors are opened........locked or unlocked

I just assumed that the higher end vehicle like the MKZ would function the same way

Hi bnewt. Quoted above is the post I was referring to. Your answer did not mention what vehicle you were referring to, so it was unclear to me as to whether you were referring to your MKZ or Explorer. Now it is clear.

When you get out of the MKZ from the drivers side, the mirror is still extended and the Welcome Mat would be facing the wrong way, so it can not illuminate. Again, since it will be facing the wrong way.

In addition, it was asked earlier...What does the Explorer puddle light look like? Is it just light a shining on the ground, or is it some type of "Welcome Mat" logo like the MKZ?

The MKZ "Welcome Mat" is the Lincoln logo. It would not be able to be illuminated on the ground properly in both the folded and unfolded positions.  And it illuminates as we approach the car. No need to open/close/lock/unlock a door. To me, that is higher end than having to perform an action to illuminate it (i.e. open, close, lock, unlock).

Does your MKZ lighting and Welcome Mat not illuminate when you approach the car with your keyfob on you? If not, what trim level do you have?

Of course, the MKZ being "higher end" like this is simply my personal opinion and perception. I understand you wish it worked work in a different way. However, it is the way it operates.

If you think there is problem with yours, you can have the Service Department check it on your next service visit.

EDIT - Also, if you are just looking to vent and not really looking for information, just let me know and I will shut up. ??

Good luck.

originally the puddle light on the explorer is just a light, then I switched to one that displays the Ford oval logo

just plug in to replace the oem version

Hi bnewt. Thanks for the information. So that explains why the Explorer "puddle light" (it is not a "Welcome Mat" like the MKZ) illuminates whether the mirror is folded or not. It was a simple puddle light. Not a directional logo. My 2007 MKZ is the same way. It is a simple puddle light, not a logo.

As we explained earlier, the Lincoln "Welcome Mat" is a horizontal Lincoln logo. The optics can only allow it to be projected properly in one position or another (folded or not folded), not both. Lincoln chose to have it illuminate correctly in the folded position.

Hope that information helps. Good luck.
