LincolnCurious
I have a 2011 Lincoln MKZ Hybrid with 90k +/- and the seat heat/cool controller is malfunctioning. When I press heat or cool, for the driver's, or the passenger's seat, the function light will light up for a few seconds, then shut off. Wondering if anyone else has ran into this problem, and if so, how was it solved? Thanks in advance for your input.
fusionff
Is this a car that you've had for a while? Or is it new to you? Did this happen to one side first, and then the second side? Most likely it means that the heating element is broken at some point, and it usually occurs in the seat pad element. The seat pad and back pads are connected by a wire in each seat. It happened in my 07 Fusion, drivers side seat bad had a spot where it burnt and the wire had separated. When turning it on, the light stayed on for two seconds, and then went out. This is a common heated seat element failure, in pretty much all makes. I pulled the seat, opened it up and found the burnt spot. I ordered a new seat pad and installed it, and it worked fine again. LincolnCurious
I've had the car since 9/16, bought it with 38k on it. They both worked until this Spring, then neither one would work. Neither heating nor cooling will stay on. Thanks, gives me somewhere to start.
fusionff
I'm thinking if the heat and cooled functions in both seats quit at the same time, it's more likely to be the seat heater control module, which should be located under the passenger seat. I'm sure that you've checked the fuses and wiring connections first, and if not, start there.
R2D2
I would also check for a loose plug/connection under the seats, it's been know to happen from vacuuming ?
LincolnCurious
A long overdue follow up: it was in fact the Seat Heat Controller Module.
drolds1
Thanks for the followup, albeit delayed.
raildog1
When your climates seats failed, did toe fans stay running in the seats?
Smokestone10
I just had this happen in my 2010 and both fuses check out so far. Either setting, either seat, and the switch will light up for about two seconds and go off. I'm thinking it's the module, which sucks because it looks like the passenger's seat has to come out to access it. No big deal except it's going to be in the low 30's and windy for the foreseeable future, and I don't have a garage. Smokestone10
Just for clarity... this particular module? Online I'm seeing a few variations for the same model year.
Smokestone10
Having second thoughts now, as a new problem has cropped up. The dashboard controls for the radio and HVAC no longer function. I can't change the HVAC settings through the touch screen either. The radio can't be turned off but I can still use the steering wheel controls to change the volume and track. I can turn the AC on and off but that's about all. I can't help but wonder if it's connected to the seat issue. Guess I'll check some fuses and report what I find, if anything... UPDATE- I did nothing but turn the car off and on twice, and the dashboard controls are functioning normally. Still no heated/cooled seats so I'm back at square one. I do hope the dashboard controls don't make a habit of this though. Edited December 17, 2020 by Smokestone10
