MKZMark
I've given up on Android auto for now since I like Sync voice control over my music collection on USB, Sirius weather, etc and would rather stay in the Sync interface. Also I want nothing to do with Google assistant. However I still need Waze, at least until Lincoln gets around to updating their maps. So, what's a good cell phone holder that's unobtrusive? I don't want anything on the windshield. Thanks. ?
Airflow
I always liked the vent mounted magnetic holders. There are a few on the market. You need to attach a metal disk to the back of the phone or the cell phone case, but they make placing the phone on the mount very easy. Chris109
Lincoln updating their maps? Seems like they are a coupla years behind everyone else. Waze looks better on the screen anyway.
drolds1
Lincoln doesn't update maps. You have to purchase the updates. In your case, you'd have to purchase the latest SD card, which is currently an A9 card.

rubyinla
Anyone use one of those holders that uses a goose neck and fits in the cup holder? https://www.amazon.com/DEESEE-TM-Universal-Adjustable-Gooseneck/dp/B07NVR51JB?SubscriptionId=AKIAILSHYYTFIVPWUY6Q&tag=duckduckgo-ffab-20&linkCode=xm2&camp=2025&creative=165953&creativeASIN=B07NVR51JB

MKZMark
I got the vent-mount magnetic one and put it on the left side, works great. For the wife's we got a vent mount spring-loaded one from Staples and also works well.
rubyinla
I found a similar goose neck holder at a local store and did some fiddling inside the store. Seems like, even with a 12" neck it will only raise the phone around 6" because it can't come straight up. The neck still have to do an "S" turn to move the phone far enough away from you and then rotate again to point the phone towards you. Also not sure how long the single screw will last that attaches the neck to the cup. At this point I'm passing on it. I looked at the vent mounted magnetic holder. Came to the conclusion that the charging wires (phone and dash cam} start to get cumbersome. After some more shopping I ordered this one: https://www.amazon.com/KV-Electronics-3-Cigarette-Compitable/dp/B07MMP2TWJ/ref=sr_1_8?keywords=magnetic+Cigarette+Lighter+Phone+Holder+Car+Mount&qid=1555804655&s=wireless&sr=1-8 Just hope the cigarette lighter holder is strong enough. rubyinla
It showed up and so far (2, 25 mile freeway trips) it's doing fine. Seems like a good height. A drawback for me is it won't power the dash cam. The holder itself seems pretty sturdy, time will tell though whether the Lincoln cigarette lighter fixture is stout enough. I do like the magnet attaching instead of some ratcheting holder thingies. Phone looks crooked in the picture but it's oriented fine. rubyinla
So the mount's ok. The biggest wiggle is caused by the plastic mounting of the cigarette lighter. The next problem is the mount's charger doesn't generate enough power to keep the phone charged while running google maps. The charge dropped from 38% to 12% in 40 minutes. My regular charger held the power for over 4 hours of a road trip and then some. Annoying. Next is the OBD-II power adapter that is suppose to be able to power my dash cam, but doesn't. Grrrrr

Grrrrr I bought a fuse adapter power supply for a dashcam and it will just keep the phone at a steady charge level while using Waze. On the other hand a standard Verizon 12v charger will charge the phone right up while navigating. Edited April 27, 2019 by MKZMark
rubyinla
Thanks for the input MKZMark. Do you happen to remember what your Amp output is? This cigarette mount has a 5 volts / 1.5 amp output. My Samsung wall charger is listed at 2.0 Amps After some semi-professional ? fiddling in my garage, I think I have the dash cam OBD-II power adapter working. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07PWRSRW9/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=

I'm now using my Aukey dash cam's power supply which has an extra USB jack, so I'll see how it powers my phone later this week when I go on a road trip. rubyinla
It's crazy. I have 2 Anker's and have tried both in my wife's car car. They both reports it will take 4 hours and 23 minutes to charger her phone. Here are the specs on the unit: https://d2211byn0pk9fi.cloudfront.net/spree/accessories/attachments/70827/74134B91CEBBF9D_71AN2452CSS-BA_manual_-_9.12.2014.pdf?1533028033 With the same cable the phone will charge in an hour 20 using a 5volt - 1.8amp wall charger. To continue the crazy I have plugged my phone into the goose neck holder and it's charging fine with maps. It's putting out a total of 3.1amps, so 1.5amps for each plug I'm assuming. rubyinla
One thing I've confirmed is that the quality of the USB cable you are using makes a big difference when charging.
Blackhawk
Good chance over time it will break your cigarette light socket and make it really lose. Replaced the socket twice on my Ford taurus.
rubyinla
Thanks for the input. After watching it wabble around I have been concerned about that. Those fixtures just aren't sturdy like they were in those metal dashboards in the '60's ?
Chief7
I have used ProClip mounts in all of my cars for the last 15 years or so. I just received my latest for my new 2019 MKZ and will install it later. For now I am going with the mount on the dash (it does NOT mount permanently on the dash and is easy to remove) but may try another of their units that goes on the center console. Maybe I'll take a picture later. Here is a link to their web page: https://www.proclipusa.com
Doctor O
I have the Proclip pictured here..I Love it and it works perfectly with my Note 9 even though I only have sync 2 the native android auto app works pretty seamlessly I can even use Alexa if I stream amazon music...but usually default to google music and google assistant... No problem at all with the goose neck or magnet. The problem comes with the flimsy construction of the cigarette lighter holder. The phone tends to flop around going over culvert and when changing directions. It seems though, that after a few months it has gotten loser and a lot of attention had to be paid to whether the blue charge light was on or not. So I finally took it out. I am back to "standing" the phone up in the cup holder. I got a new USB charger cable when I started standing the phone up. They work much better for if u'r resting the phone on end. https://www.amazon.com/DECVO-Reversible-One-Sided-Connector-Compatible/dp/B07JVH8KMY/ref=sr_1_22?crid=1YXAU3N1NWA6S&keywords=mini+usb+right+angle+charger&qid=1566083527&s=wireless&sprefix=mini+usb+right%2Cmobile%2C182&sr=1-
