I drove a 3.0t awd reserve without drivers package for about 20min and walked away excited about it. My original plan was a Kia stinger gt2 but am straying away because of horribl sales and service and a few quality issues. The mix is a bit different of a car but they are my 2 choices at this point 50k+ is a lot for me and I only BUY a new car every 15 to 20 years so this is a very important decision. Factory ordered with Drivers Package and all other packages (Technology, Luxury, Climate) and individual options except a moonroof. Previously owner of a 2007 MKZ. Same thing, factory ordered fully equipped except for a moonroof. What I can tell you is we loved the 2007 and absolutely love the new MKZ. The new MKZ is a fantastic car with great ride, handling, power, technology and features. Other than the car not being free and having to pay for it, I see no bad in owning the MKZ, if it is what you like and desire. Other than that, I would highly recommend the 3.0T AWD. ? If you want to Factory order a 2018, you have very little if any time to do so. Orders are already being taken for the 2019 and orders for the 2018 will end any day now, if it already hasn't. You will then be stuck with whatever is in Dealer stock, and the Drivers Package can be hard to find. Also, the trim levels, packages and other option choices have changed for the 2019 models and are very different and much more restrictive. For example, there is no longer a stand alone "Drivers Package" anymore. What used to come with the Drivers Package (Dynamic Torque Vectoring, Sport Tuned Suspension, black painted brake calipers, aluminum pedals etc.) now come as part of the 3.0T AWD engine option. However, it is only available on the two high end trim levels...the new "Reserve II" and already existing Black Label. Many other changes too. fusionff Posted July 14, 2018 Share Posted July 14, 2018 I've had my MKZ for almost 4 months now, and I am very happy with my decision. The interior is very nice, and I find the seats comfortable (massage seats are nice), although I know that is subjective. An amazing sound system, incredible power, and smooth ride are a few more reasons that I'm happy with it. Plus it's a great looking car, and that there aren't a ton of them driving around is a nice plus IMO. Of course, 2019 is the last year of the MKZ, but that doesn't matter to me at all, because I'll have this car for probably 10-15 years...Most likely anyway. I ask because the Stinger GT was a potential choice for my next car if there's no viable replacement for the MKZ. BTW, I love my 2017 3.0. Awesome car. Zalvern Posted July 15, 2018 Share Posted July 15, 2018 Okay I'll challenge the MKZ. Yes I lost mine...but I absolutely did love it. I wanted to keep it and buy it out of lease, and wouldn't mind living with the 6 speed transmission. Even now I cannot replace it this soon, so I settled for a more economy focused ride with the mindset to save money up for a few years. However that is because I was able to invest some modifications and tune it to more of my liking. Stock wise...hmm...Ford/Lincoln is lagging behind other rivals even with a Black Label. Seeing the mentioning of the Kia Stinger GT. I will admit, since my MKZ Is lost and when I can return to having "the" car (right now I'm all budget mode and fuel economy focused) I am going to give a new upcoming rival a chance most likely. This is because I really want to cut back on "performance mod chasing" on a daily driver, even the lightest tweaks. Really needs to feel so good from the get go. So what would be the equivalent to Lincoln? Genesis. I suggest checking out either the Genesis G80 Sport or 5.0 Ultimate, and there is the Genesis G70 which will no doubt outperform our MKZ I'm afraid to admit. But the G80 is a very note worthy rival, it is on my target list once I am ready to buy a true new car again. They offer a lot more tech and options, yet price wise are very competitive. No doubt I am determined to get a RWD based vehicle with a more modern transmission. Will not let HP/TQ stock numbers rule the day. The 400/400 MKZ doesn't not reach its full potential thanks to the stock transmission setup and old 6 speed. It makes sense because it is more than enough for the street, but when you have all that power you do want it to feel...crisp, controlled, and efficient. I love the look of the G80 Sports, but of course the option to go nearly classic V8 NA RWD based luxury sedan is nice too...as long you don't really care about fuel bills (though regular doesn't penalize the power of the V8 as much like the Twin Turbo V6s do when running non-premium). Getting that RWD based and 8 speed transmission is nice. I drool at the thought if these options were on the MKZ or Continentals. There is another coming, the Genesis G70 but its on a smaller segment. It will however offer the forms of performance like the Kia Stringer GT does (Limited-Slip, Brembo Brakes, Launch Control, etc.) but is a smaller and lighter car. I love how this guy hammers on the throttle and enjoys squealing those tires! A bit on the upcoming G70: Some like the Stinger look more than the Genesis. I like the Genesis though personally. The Genesis G70 is smaller than our MKZ and the Stinger GT no doubt offers great space too, if that is of importance. It also hasn't launched in the US yet, but the Canadians are loving it. The G70 however is a smaller and lighter car, even with AWD vs our MKZ so its more on the compact sport luxury sedan level to be fair. Of course compared to the G80s, Stingers, or MKZ even...I expect those former cars to have more comfortable rides since the G70 is going to be more "Driver's Sport Car". Bigger and heavier vehicles will always ride better and should be considered based on your daily driving needs. Good luck to your search! If Lincoln doesn't make something competitive to the upcoming G70...I'm leaning heavily towards that in 2021 since my MKZ has departed far too soon.
