The End of my 2017 MKZ

The front and rear camera is just a must. All it takes is just one time to think "Thank god I have this camera setup". It will be helpful should one witness an accident, and want to offer the video evidence to a victim. The final level is adding a 360 camera to view the entire interior (and surroundings of the car). If you want to catch door dingers, key scratchers, etc. and what not when they happen.

The Aukey added a parking monitor OBDII power connector. I use that now for my front and rear since the OBDII power port is great for dash cameras and radar detectors.

Despite not really caring that much for my Focus, its heavily secured with cameras and interesting the things I catch even if it does not involve my vehicle.

It's been over a month since I finally ditched the Focus for something better, but not nearly as expensive (half compared to my 2017 MKZ). Just now getting around to sharing more about it as closure to this thread. Alas, because of Ford's choices which affect Lincoln as well, I have chosen Mazda as my next daily driver. A 2020 Mazda 6 Signature (the fully loaded trim) in Deep Crystal Blue Metallic with Parchment Interior. With the decline in sedans, I found this one on my local lot with just 3 miles, so no one really had touched it. Managed to shave quite a bit off the price tag and take off with it only costing me a bit over 30k out the door. This includes a 7 year full coverage warranty along with other perks I couldn't get for the price with an equally optioned Lincoln (and some things the MKZ just can't do at all: HUD, 360 camera, etc).

I already took it in for service to have the coolant converted to my high performance preference and the Mazda service team was just as courteous and enjoyable to talk with, as with Lincoln. Sure they won't do pick-up and delivery (I used that like once anyway), but I still get free loaners if I wish to drop off and leave. So I'm off to a good start with the little Japanese brand line, but I am happy I still can use FORScan features with Mazda vehicles.

Main reason: Big bang for the buck compared to anything else, even Genesis. After this experience with the accident and amount of time and money I put into the MKZ, I set a lower limit for a daily driver. Keeping it under 40k, so getting near 30k was much more satisfying to achieve. It's just not fun knowing someone out there can suddenly ruin that and daily drivers always will be at most risk of this, and the more expensive and time spent into it, the more it'll hurt if it happens.

I've already sent you my thoughts on the 6, but it can't hurt to wish you well again.  It really looks great.

Not that you could have waited but according to C&D, the next-gen 6 will be RWD with an I-6.  If so, I may have found my next car.

Congrats on the new ride, I am sure you will do things to it and enjoy the journey regardless. Def come back to check us out from time to time, but you wouldn't have written this all for us if you didn't still have a soft spot for the MKZ... so see you around ?

It is.  They did the same thing in advance of the 2013 MKZ. The rendering looked nothing like the actual car, except for the grille.

No doubt, the MKZ I had was special to me. Especially for a Black Label that was dropped after 2018. I would have kept it much longer if I still had it around. Memories aren't just discarded when something new comes along for me.

That is why I did not strive too hard to find something outright "better" than the MKZ. The Mazda 6 is picks up some advantages while having drawbacks on its own, and I'll enjoy it in its own unique way.

I am leaving Lincoln because nothing among their portfolio and asking prices suits me at this time. So perhaps in the future, I'll return to the brand.

Thanks again everyone, as I have enjoyed this forum's mature atmosphere over your standard car enthusiast forums.

Hi Everyone.   Enjoyed reading this post.

Lots of great contributions of information

My Name is Lee

so- I'm thinking of the 3.0 MKZ AWD V6.  I would love to get advice of which year and set up to pick

near me in CA there is a 2017 with 30,000 miles.  (Doesn't have the tuned suspension or torquevectoring.  So not sure??

there is another used low mileage car 850 miles away.  2018 fully loaded including the drivers package (which I believe comes with the tuned suspension and  torque  vectoring.

There are some discounted 19s that are new as well.  I believe they come standard with the tuned suspension and  torque vectoring.

Would love input.   Thanks

Lee

ps. I have tried the pedal commander on the RS and it is an impressive after market item.

Pss.  Re: mKZ.  Does Sync3 have anything usable for forward recording like the front and back recording that was heavily discussed ?

Hello Lee. Glad you're quite excited and looking forward to a MKZ.

If you are looking at a 2017/2018, simply make sure it has the Driver's Package among its equipment listings to ensure it has "full performance" options, or look at the calipers and you'll notice they are painted black from the factory. Otherwise later year models (2019+) Will have it packaged already in just by getting AWD V6 Reserve 2. 2019+ do not paint the calipers black anymore however. Some 2017 MY that were built in 2016 might get engine issues with cylinder head allowing fluid leaks to corrupt spark plug(s). This isn't super detrimental as long its caught and fixed.

As for Sync 3, the MKZ does not have factory cameras for recording installed. You'll need to just add your own dash cam unit of choice. The Continental has a 360 degree camera, but they do not record either. Pedal commander is fine to use, just always make sure to adjust it only when the car is in Park. People throw CELs because it is not designed for changing throttle input on the fly. I have one in my Mazda now, and its much better than Livernois' Throttle Enhancer.

Thanks Zalvern.  Nice to know I'm on the right track with knowing which years naturally possess the drivers package and which years have to be purchased as optional equipment.

Also, thanks about letting me know your thoughts on the throttle enhancers (the two we talked about).  I heard about pedal commander from my tint and wrap guy (Ghost Shield).  it was a good tip and now all on the forum now know of two different ones...good stuff.

thanks again.  Lee

Lee, I would go for the for the car with the drivers package.. My lease was up on my 2017 3.0 AWD RESERVE with 45k  no drivers package .. It was great and fun to drive.. Picked up a 2020 3.0 AWD RESERVE the drivers package is now part of the reserve.. all a can say is WOW what a difference I wish I would have spent the extra money on my 2017 and got the drivers package.. Good luck and hope this was helpful

Yep I agree.

Regarding final orders for new 2020 mkz'  has to be before 6/20/20.

Hi Lee. If you mean placing a factory order when you state "final orders for new 2020 mkz'  has to be before 6/20/20", that is no longer possible.

Production has already ended and we can no longer factory order an MKZ. Anyone interested in a 2020 MKZ will need to find what they want in Dealer inventory.

Good luck.

Yes final orders are no longer taken at least on the West coast … I tried to order mine the middle of March but no possible .. They found one fully loaded with everything I wanted .. the only negative for me was that it as a Pano roof … Not a fan but its growing on me

Just to throw it out there: https://www.bergeyslincoln.com/certified/Lincoln/2017-Lincoln-MKZ-lansdale-pa-ea2099940a0e0ae84c7f6b0d7a02a968.htm?searchDepth=1:41

Is perhaps the last low mileage, fully loaded Black Label Lincoln MKZ out there for sale. I really did like that Vineyard interior.

Prior to finding my Mazda 6, I was interested in this one. Bergley's is known to being one of the Lincoln dealers who obtain most of Lincoln's show room cars or lightly used corporate models. Basically, well taken care of and new without the 1st owner premium price tag. This one is especially being taken well care of.

With the times now, I almost think one could even push to get this close to 30k out the door. Of course, only buy if you really want to enjoy one of the best MKZs there is. It's a baby with only a bit over 11k miles. A lot of car for what is nearly a Ford Fusion Sport price now.

Has the front plate drilled in, alas. A fix would mean repainting the bumper. Also built in 2016, so it "might" get the engine issue, just inspect spark plugs. Watch the PTU/Transmission seals over time for leaks. Driver seat cushion is also sagging and creaking up, if you look closely to the seat side (so request this to be fixed under warranty). You get that CPO warranty which is better than standard factory.
