The End of my 2017 MKZ

After having such great service and repair done to my 2017 Lincoln MKZ Black Label, it has all come to a end for this car.

First is my Dash Camera's POVs which I copied time wise when they are to start. Pardon the profanity but I lost it knowing what happened. More so screamed in anger than in pain as I am okay and well. Only air bag that did deploy is the one underneath the steering column which protected my legs.

Get a dash cam. Before anything else. There are good people, and there are bad people. This is a world we have to stand up for ourselves.

When I finally got time to watch my rear camera, I was livid. Getting nailed while watching that truck just scram away. That other car beside me was the lucky one...she stopped and he still nearly hit her too after I got blown away. Such people ...turning your day upside down, risking your life, all while leaving you in the dust. Karma and justice need no mercy on that. Though the search is on. Police got a plate number. As much I would like a financial recoup cause there are going to be some serious losses on my side, I won't have my hopes up so at least get the slammer.

At least you weren't doing 60.  Good thing it was only your car and not your life.

People always get pissed at me cause at every intersection I slow down and look every which way just in case.

On the lighter side, can I have your sync 3 module?  :)   (sorry, no smiley emoji)

Wow , To think someone could hit you like that and just keep on going like nothing happened , and  then not to at least see if you were injured . The number one thing is that you are alright and this could have been much worst !  How much does insurance cover for this , it looks like the poor car is totaled . So very sorry for this lost .

Sorry to hear (and see) this.  It is amazing how someone would simply drive off after hitting a vehicle and sending it into a building.  Absolutely no regard whatsoever for another persons safety.  And like stated above, that nobody followed the truck and called 911 is disappointing, there were plenty of people behind you who saw the entire incident.  It's great that you walked away unharmed, and I sure hope the worthless guy is found.

This happened to my cousin in Fl last year.  Guy went around another and hit her head on.  Luckily it was just as the light turned green.  Guy in a small pickup drove off.  He was caught a bit away from scene cause his front bumper was dragging and got caught under the front wheels.  Why did he drive off?  Illegal alien.  No license.  No insurance.  My cousin wasn't hurt, but she had to pay for a new car.  Don't know any other details.

And the OP did say coppers got the plate number.  As for following the truck?  You don't know what may be waiting around the corner.  Best to stay out of it and just be a witness.

Hi Zalvern.  So sorry this happened to you and your MKZ. Glad you were not injured.

I hope they catch the piece of dirt, they have insurance to cover your loss and they serve jail time for the hit and run.

Hang in there and please keep us updated.

Hopefully, they'll locate this low-life soon.  In OH, leaving the scene of an accident is a 1st-degree misdemeanor.  Probably has no insurance or license either.

Quote

In Ohio, leaving the scene of a car accident or failure to stop after an accident (called a “hit skip”) is a serious criminal offense with serious potential penalties.  A hit and run in Ohio is usually a first degree misdemeanor, which is the most serious misdemeanor charge.

Potential penalties can include:

  • Up to six months in jail,
  • Up to $500 in fines, and a
  • Minimum six months driver’s license suspension.

Good.  In NY, it's only a moving violation if there are no injuries or fatalities.

I think it'll be kept down here in Lexington, KY once its verified as totaled and becomes a salvaged title. Parting out the Sync 3 module will probably be one  of the few worthwhile things. Or those Fusion Sports who desire an MKZ IPC. By all means once I let it go, whatever parts help others is best sold off.

Also I'm glad people came to and showed concern for me, and honestly...pursuing that kind of driver would be very dangerous. The potential drug addicts or who knows what that causes humans to behave so low is to be weary of. No matter how strong you are if you choose the good side of humanity living, some actions of vigilance have to tread carefully. This is someone who is mentally ruthless in their actions to continue on like that, and most likely has outstanding warrants that would already cave him in even if he stopped. It is best to leave the law enforcement because you don't know what kind of unknown crazy may happen trying to take them on (or chase them by vehicle). I am upset, but wouldn't want anyone else going after them that isn't going to have the law on their side.

This incident happened in Lexington, KY because I'm down here for work. Kentucky laws for hit and run are nearly the same as Ohio's with hit and run (jail time though can be up to a year). I made the news as well, and will be certain my dash cam video will spread. Don't mind it really...I've spent much of my life being quiet. Because of that I opened up my videos even to public as I am on the news.

Thank you all for the good wishes and yes, I am safe which is absolutely great. That whiplash still got me a bit sore but will recover with time. But it also crossed my mind...god, if there was a pedestrian on that sidewalk and in front of my car...even if you're innocent its a hurtful guilty conscience to have. I am glad no one else was hurt.

As for if I get another MKZ...well...it's hard. Even if I can get a 2019 brand new to start over, being a car guy its...it did have some soul. I might brand drift because of that, but there is still time to figure it out. If I do seriously move on from the Lincoln platform I'll have a classifieds section of what parts I do have left over. Only thing I'm going to go get off the car is that Ford Performance Throttle Body.

I am really glad you are alright.  It still pisses me off that this dude just totally took off.  At least the ladies that were next to you stopped to check on you.  It definitely hurts to see your Z though as I just picture my Z there... I hope everything works out and the guy does actually have insurance and that they have to pay out a lot.  I would probably even try and sue the guy for pain and suffering as well.  Keep us posted and good luck.  I might be interested in that throttle body if you're selling.  Also, probably the wheels.

Zalvern - I am so sorry to read this and see these photos, but so thankful you are okay. That looks like a very scary accident. I am impressed how well the passenger compartment stayed intact and it is a testament to the build quality on these vehicles.

You were a pioneer for modifying this 3.0 MKZ and your thoughtful, colorful, and insightful posts will be missed on this forum. I wish you all the best with whatever you choose next and hope you achieve a full recovery from any pain and suffering that you are encountering. Please keep us in the loop.

Condolences friend.  It's not just a car.  It's countless hours of research and planning, hard work and busted knuckles.  It becomes a source of comfort and pride.  Almost a family member.  But, unlike a family member, it's just metal and rubber.  The end of one great vehicle, can be the beginning of another.

I wanted to ask also how fast he was going and why he hit the wall.  Did the force of the hit cause him to hit the accelerator?  Everybody has done that where you want to hit the brake but just don't.  I've been know to panic more than once in my life.

The dash cam I use:

https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B075S7W6FR

I got forced into the wall because it's like being PIT Maneuvered by extreme weight force. I lost control instantly. My foot was off the accelerator moment I felt impact, and braking was just outright overpowered from the force. All my tires blew out, even the rear one which the rear driver was first to go upon being hit.

I got the last mods out and said goodbye to Venix, my great 1st new factory ordered car. I left the MSD coils behind but got the FP Throttle Body. I will be posting things for sale eventually.

So time for farewells:

Physically I'm fine, but emotionally I'm at my lowest in life now. Which knock on wood, it can always get worse but I'm aiming to resurrect one day from all my difficulties going on that drag me to this point.

No I cant get another nice car. My ex girlfriend ruined my once good credit despite having income still to afford my MKZ just fine. I was counting on buying out this MKZ cause I knew otherwise I'm SOL on new loans for a long time, but now that too has been lost.

Just another cruel fate but this happens to many in the world, and there are victims even worse off than me. It's nice im not hurt, so I can rebuild but will take years as I'm all alone on it. I am otherwise your average daily worker. The MKZ was my only lavish item as I live quite simple and small scale otherwise.

I just hope I can get my hands on this used Mazda 6 I found and it gets me around without issues. Back to 185 hp for me, but at least it looks nice, has better than bare bones options, and I'll save a ton on gas. Pay it off quick and if it behaves, I'll keep it as a back up.

Will I come back to Lincoln one day? Only if a real luxury sport sedan or coupe comes forth. Honestly if my credit was good...I would be considering the upcoming Genesis G70, to go even more sporty. I enjoyed test driving the G80 sometime ago as that 5.0 is really fun even without turbos. I do want to shift away from tunes cause of transmission feeling hesistant. I won't buy a "new" car with that 6F-based series trans ever again.

Good luck MKZers, it's been fun pioneering some mods and being involved. Buying any parts I list for sale will help me a lot. Stay tuned for a list or just PM me if there is any you know off hand.

Peace!

Remaining items are now up for sale:

I will move to other things like Craigslist but giving these forums first dibs for a bit.

I have least managed to lease a new 2018 Ford Focus SEL since I was always in good standing with my MKZ's payments, as any other dealers wouldn't give me a chance beyond some used out of warranty vehicle (asking for trouble with my kind of job). I don't mind the performance loss, since I make up in fuel economy and savings by using regular fuel. But losing the convenience and comfort features definitely is going to stink in winter time.

Have not heard back from the Police either in regards if the snake was caught. I at least...want to hear that someday, and don't let him do this to another person out there.
