Now that I conquered the inexpensive Wal-Mart Universal FOB (see my post "Inexpensive Remote Key FOB") I was ready to find the elusive 'under the dash program button & light'. I needed to add a 2nd remote start FOB and end the dreaded 'engine dies when door opens' curse.

Reading posts on the Fusion forum, I tried to locate the light by 'key on> press remote start button 1 time'... no light. In fact, now that I have found it, I have yet to see the light, light! Thankfully, I was able to locate the button by a well lit search under the dash. In my MKZ the button/light are located directly above the far end of the 'under dash hood release' but exact placement depends on the installer.

OK, now that I found the magic button I also found that the only way I could do the required procedures with the doors closed (required) was to come in the passenger side, placing a cushion over the parking brake (to save my ribs), lay across the two seats squeezing myself under the steering wheel while reaching up under the dash....

Must go now, to be continued tomorrow...

... It's Tomorrow

I moved "Programming Additional Remote Start" to the D.I.Y. Guides section.

I'm having problems getting a carriage return here so I will continue "Turning off the "open door kill engine" goofy programming idea..."  also in the D.I.Y. Guides  section

... continued (Program additional Remote Start FOBs)

The position to reach the program button is so awkward that I found a short bat shaped handle to press on the brake peddle while holding the program button was of great help.

The Mystery! As the King of Siam said, "Is a puzzlement!" As I mentioned in above post I could easily tell the RS FOBs apart. So here's the strange part. The vehicle seems to know which is the added FOB. When the MKZ is started with the orig. RS FOB, 1 push of the 'unlock' button on the key FOB unlocks the driver door as it should. When the MKZ is started with the added RS FOB it takes 2 presses of the 'unlock' button to unlock the drivers door! At first I thought it was a bad button press but after repeating the starting procedure 3 times... well, it's for real.

It's late again... so next reply, on to the BIG challenge: Turning off the "open door kill engine" goofy programming idea...
