Livernois tune for 3.0TT MKZ

Recommended Posts

I agree about FORScan.     Another thing:   If you know anyone who has an SCT device, it can be used to access your vehicle info even if it is married to another vehicle.  I have used mine to pull the codes for my Mustang and even had a friend borrow it to pull info from an SHO.    You can only tune the car it is married to but you can access other's vehicle strategy codes, etc.

All,

I will confirm with Zalvern that the 93 aggressive tune does more hurt than help. I posted earlier about my experience. I went with the 93 tune. At the track the shifting isn't noticeable. Sometimes when accelerating from a toll booth for instance, I will get a big bog and the traction control light will go on. No idea why, but can guess that the AWD system is being stupid.  BTW I ran yesterday in NJ in 95 degree heat. Ran 13.39 to 13.53, so heat has big effect. In winter, 12.72 was a best run with 93 tune.

Hey folks, new to the forum... Just installed the Livernois 91 perf. tune and went for a 5 minute drive. And wow! Quite a difference on the butt dyno!

It's rather warm here in Canada right now, like 90 degrees Fahrenheit. On my second 3/4 throttle launch of my drive, I heard a ticking sound like detonation, lost all power and AC. CEL flashed on and off for 60 seconds or so, and then everything went back to normal. Full power again.

Anyone else experience this?

What year is your car? I know from reading around here the earlier 2017s had faulty heads that are prone to failure. I guess the tune can just speed up the process of find out about it.

It's an early 2017. I have the dreaded "running water in my dashboard" sound. I'll take it into the dealer for a check. Any recommendations on what to tell the dealer?

That you're having misfires when accelerating and you have a gurgling sound and that you believe you're affecting by faulty heads and reference the TSB. I'm not sure which one it is. My car just got built the beginning of last month and I got it less than a week ago. Great timing for my birthday today but now it's in Kansas City and I dont get to enjoy it ?

Ah... Shame. I've had good luck so far with mine. I've searched for a bit and think this might be the ticket:

Hopefully my 5 minute drive with the tune won't cost me my warranty on the Cylinder Heads...

I just drove my mom home back to tulsa this weekend and then dropped the car off in KC. I just rolled over 1000 miles so when it gets back she'll be close to 1200 which is more than I'd like on her first oil change. But I'll drain and get some mobile 1 in it and then it's game time. I plan on making sure my engine is pretty solid before I throw the tune on her in a couple months.

I'm sorry and I hope it's good news for your heads/engine. Zalvern had his entire engine replaced with all his mods on the car. So hopefully your dealer is pretty cool. I haven't tested mine yet.

I hope so too. And I hope I can learn to keep my foot easy on the gas. The stock all seasons can't stay in a straight line... Drifting all over the place ever since I found out about the AdvanceTrac disable method! ?Anyone have any other tricks to disable more nannies?

If you only have a tune and completely bone stock in bolt on mods, shouldn't have an issue. Most dealerships will only follow Ford's warranty cancellation if they actually see various go fast mods.

I suggest while it may be a pain for most, investigate your spark plugs. Probably got coolant/engine oil on it now. My oil is also cleaner since my fix.

This boils down to the tech working on your car and service advisor. Some just don't care that much and are usually real "car people". They can pick up on if the owner was being actually abusive or not. Just a tune? Well truth be told the tune probably DID help snuff out the fact the engine got faulty heads by upping the performance a bit. It's very hard to get on minor head issue blocks with stock tune, without it being a major problem.

Once its fixed, itll be a champion without issues. If you can get them to verify having wet spark plugs (this is why you misfire), that'll help get things going even if they can't get the car to have a misfire on stock tune. They probably won't which is why this issue can be quite an annoyance.

Good luck on getting your fix done. Pass that, and you'll love it.

Welcome to the forums.

Obviously, you'll return it to the stock tune before bringing it in.  They can tell if a tune had been downloaded and returned to stock but probably don't bother doing that with Lincolns, especially since your appears to be one of the cars covered in the TSB.  They've been doing it with F-series diesels if they suspect anything.  Ford won't authorize repairs under warranty until they receive the PCM form the dealer so they can look for past tunes.

...even if you do manage to sneak a tune past your dealership, you won't get it past Ford itself. If Ford requests a PCM or ECU be sent to them in regards to a warranty claim, they'll go through its software and firmware line by line, piece of code by piece of code, and ff there's anything there to find, they will find it, and it's going to ruin your day.

Glad everything worked out for you. My car should be home hopefully Wednesday. Detailer sent me this picture of her sleeping next to a 1000hp GTR tonight. He said she just got her final wash and will have 1 last look over before her coating tomorrow. I'm really torn right now because I kind of want to debadge her but I really do like the Lincoln lettering and the mkz black label logo. I don't care too much for the 3.0t awd badge but would hate how unbalanced if would be without it.

Easy peezy. Glad they verified quickly and will get the proper repairs done! You'll find it will have more power even in stock form once done!

I removed the badges from mine but did some rearrangements. I got a AWD solid badge from an MKX (Looks much better imo) and move them to the engine cover instead. The badges hold up just fine to the heat too.

The Black Label badge was moved to my stainless steel chrome license plate and centered, so its still noticeable even at night thanks to the license plate light. I also plasti-dipped my rear lower valance to luxury black sapphire. I wanted to have my body shop repaint the lower valence but it is textured, and so plasti-dip worked better. These can be seen in my photo album and still hold up to this day.

I did a full clearing as I like a painted body free of badges, but you probably could keep the LINCOLN letters in place but re arrange the others if desired, while still looking nice. I personally wish we had the Lincoln black star on the back though instead.

Got a picture of your rearend (of the car not you. Ain't nobody wanna see that ?). Just curious what it looks like.

Afraid I'm going to have to hurt your (and others) eyes anyway...

Good luck fellow MKZ owners and I can only pray none of you ever get hurt or even your MKZs by these uncaring, thoughtless drivers out here who can't even follow simple rules of the road. I'll post a bit more detail thread though as I plan to share my dash camera video as well.

You just never know when it all will come to an end, thus have to start all over. But always be truly grateful to keep your life, body, and mind all in tact to return to the road one day happy.

If you do not have a dash cam: Get one. My next vehicle I'm going to custom install four cameras instead of just two for full four way viewing. I used this: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B075S7W6FR/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Damn I'm so sorry to see this. I haven't even had mine 2 weeks yet (only got to drive it for 4 days before it was dropped off) and I'm terrified that someone is going to hit me being stupid as fuck. It's honestly making me not want to drive the car. Glad you're alright though.

If you decide to part it please let me know. I have been looking for a cheap steeda box.

In seriousness. I am okay, I am well. I just don't know if I'll continue on with an MKZ now, cause my soul is really crushed losing my 1st custom order car. I'll get what modifications I can salvage, be it for another MKZ or to sell to recoup some financial gains. I'll share some more details in time in another thread, don't want to derail this one. This event sadly, just happened today.

So sorry.  ?  At least you're OK.  That's what matters.

Yeah...afraid that Steeda Airbox of mine is totally gone (it shattered with it being such a tight fit inside the car anyway), along with darkstar's intercooler. XS Power Battery is definitely busted in, and getting alerts voltage levels are dropping via Lincoln Way app. You can see more of the real damage in my personal thread.

Got the car back from getting the heads done on Wednesday, I drove it home (1 hour from the dealership) and all was good. Then today I was accelerating at 3/4 throttle and PSSSSS. A whistling noise from under hood. Quite loud! And I smelled burning oil quite strongly. I parked quickly and opened the hood. Ahhhh. Smoke coming from the intake, loud spraying/sucking noise from the V of the motor's top end. ?

Dealership is having it towed in tomorrow. Any ideas what is wrong with the motor? Anyone else experience this?

Tech probably did not secure the charge pipes on strong enough. So one most likely blew off under pressure. This happened to me when installing the intercooler and I wasn't aggressive enough in rebinding the intake pipes. You will definitely hear the turbo spool but car will be a slug to throttle.

Oil smoked because you were actively driving hard and the car heated up, but then suddenly pressure rates (boost and oil) declined. It should otherwise be ok if they only find a vacuum leak due to a intake pipe coming loose.

At least you tested out going hard on the throttle early on. If it's all done correctly, there shouldnt any issues, but techs may rush cause warranty only gives 20 hours of (low) pay and it's easy to slip up on minor details upon reassembly.

Almost! I found the issue after a bit of investigation. PCV hose popped off after the tech did the heads. Reinstalled and ta-da! Only issue is the retainer clip is too weak to hold under 20psi of boost. Time for a new hose. Hopefully this is helpful if anyone else experiences this issue.

Well now, thats a little trip at the finish line. But perfectly explains the symptoms. Glad it's a minor fix regardless. If stock tune is popping it off, then you can ask to get a replacement covered under warranty.

Constant removal of those plastic tube connections do fatigue them. But it's not too expensive.
