95 degree day, 2015 MKZ goes haywire!?

Hot day about 95 degrees, and I'm sure much hotter inside the car. I did leave the sunroof cracked and put a reflective sunshade in the front window this morning however to help. The car started fine but no power windows, no climate screen (all options were grayed out except for heated steering wheel, of course), no power mirrors, no air conditioning or cooled seats, and the entire control board (radio sliders, etc) were offend not illuminated. All I had working was the radio, steering wheel controls, seats, and the sunroof. What kind of a luxury car is this?

I also had a bunch of error messages such as blis and tpms not working.

I got it home and put it in the garage. Once it cooled down everything worked again. I am taking it in to the dealer. I have a hard time believing the car doesn't work when it gets hot outside. If that the case I'm screwed this summer. I am aware that electronics will power off to protect themselves when they get hot (i.e., cell phones), a vehicle is different and I have never seen this happen before on any other car.

Has anyone else had this happen?

You definitely have something there that is sensitive to heat.

4 years, 55K on the clock and living in florida gave me every opportunity to find out if something is heat sensitive, it is not and mine sits in the sun for hours on end.

Let the dealer sort through the error codes and see if they can figure out what module is acting up.

The 12volt battery in our 2015 only lasted 44 months.  It died at the supermarket while my wife ran inside and I scanned Sirius stations. The system shut itself off and flashed a warning. The car would not start without a jump.  You could be seeing the early signs of battery failure with heat  being the stressor.

Almost 4 years? What were you expecting?

It is common electronic service procedure to use a cooling spray to check for bad components when overheated. If your circuit comes back to life, you found the problem. My guess would be one of the many circuit board components in your vehicle has gone bad. Todays practice is to trash the module and replace rather than troubleshoot. Hope it turns out to be minor problem or better yet on warr.

...and remember, luxury car or not, no manufacturer makes perfect vehicles that never break down... maybe someday :future:

Update: Got it back from dealer today, they performed the KOEO self test, vehicle had multiple u codes including u0199, u0200. They searched for TSB and found SSM 45158. Removed driver seat back cover and inspected for concerns but none found at this time.

Bottom line they reset all the modules that were flagged and sent me home. If it happens again they would like me to bring it back and they will honor the warranty 50k warranty for this issue even if it's out of warranty, as I currently have a little over 49,000 miles.

Update 2: it happened again today on the drive home. Almost all electronic accessories just died. A/C, windows, touch panel, power mirrors, daytime running lights, door locks... you name it. Outside temp was only 70 degrees so hot outside temps not the cause. I drove it back to dealer while everything was not working and left it running. The tech came out and hooked it up to a computer and pulled all the codes again (about 4 pages). They kept ithe car and I will update again once I get it back.

Very good that you got to bring it in while it was happening.

Update: got my mkz back today. Been in since 6/8 and today is 7/3. We believe the problem has been resolved. They traced mean circuits under driver speed seat VDB06, VDB07, CK pint fit on splice block 48 (c3540), cut out splice. Lock 48 and solder circuits VDB06 and CDB07.

Just what I thought.

(Yeah right.  Have nooo clue what any of that means.)

Me either but it's fixed. Basically some loose wire connections under the seat and carpet somewhere. When they shook the wire harness they could replicate the issue I was having  on demand. To fix they soldered the wire connections. They still are not certain why I was having the problem occur during hot outside temps but either way it appears to be corrected now. I give the tech credit for finding the needle in the haystack on this one.
