3.7L Top Speed

Thank you bbf2530. Any idea if the governor was removed, how fast you'd be able to go without damage to the vehicle while taking into consideration of tires capability?

Hi Krcatl. you're very welcome.

Concerning removing the restriction, my thoughts are: 125 is a pretty good speed. Our cars are not designed for the Autobahn, and I would not advise pushing the car much further than that. The brakes/suspension/chassis are the limiting factors, not the tires. V classification tires are rated to 149 mph.

Ironically, most European cars going 125mph on the Autobahn should not be going 125mph on the Autobahn either. :hysterical:

Of course, that's just one persons' opinion.  Good luck with whatever you decide to do.

The only way to remove the top speed limit is to get an aftermarket tune from a vendor like Livernois motorsport, Cobb ect.

But as previously stated these cars have their limits, brakes, tires, suspension, rev limiter being the main factors.

Hi Krcatl.  Top speed of the 2013, 3.7L MKZ is governor/electronically limited to 125 mph.

My tires are rated at 168 they are a 98Y continental extreme contact DWS 06 the Germans might be able to remove that electronic limiter as I'm sure the car knows where it is with the sat radiomeven if it's not connected

Hi BB. Not sure why you quoted my previous reply. ?

As Dino mentioned, an aftermarket "tune" can be used to remove the top speed limiter.

Just as an FYI: Y speed-rated tires are rated for speeds up to 186mph. The factory W rated tires on my 2018 are rated to 168 mph. However, the car is not capable of driving at 168 or 186 mph, and definitely not safely near those speeds.

As far as the Satellite Radio: No, it does not provide any information to the vehicle to determine where it is actually located. It merely receives satellite radio broadcast signals.

Even when equipped with a Navigation system, the vehicle will simply display a map and receive local time zone information. But again, the vehicle "knowing" where it is, does nothing to alter it's performance capabilities (if that is what you were inferring?).

Hope this information helps others and good luck.

The factory tire specs frankly suck. I was down to picking michilens or continental the continental didn't have a 98W only a 94W 98 and 94 isn't he load each tire can handle the continental extreme contact DWS 06 are amazing is all seasons curious why the 2019 same specs except a lighter engine maybe the tire pressure is 38 and not I forget the recommended psi for my OEMtires since I have my dealer pump to 38. I only have 2.75 inches between the road and rim and the front is heavier than the Rear I th ink it's 36psi oem spec 2016 the 2019 is 38 psi wonder why that is coukd it be because they eat tires at that lower pressure

Trust me Lincoln knows WHERE your car is. Especially if you have the embedded modem. It would take a court order. I was not inferring location. With performance but it very well could be an ability for instance when you're at the track it could send out a few 1's and 0's I would never take mine to the track anyway reason I bought those continental extreme contact DWS 06 98Y the W speed ratingonly came in a 94 load these tires don't make a peep around corners they grip in snow as if It were a summer day  it's hard to find an aesthetically pleasing performance tire that's great in the snow the year of research paid off

Hi BB. All the information I provided above concerning tire ratings, the speed limiter/satellite radio/NAV system etc, was correct. We were discussing the top speed limiter, and whether "Lincoln knows" where our car is via "satellite radio".  Now you are discussing the embedded modem. That would be an entirely different discussion.

Hopefully that makes clearer what we were discussing.

Good luck.

Well just as an update, I've had it here for 2 years now. The limiter actually kicks in at 124MPH. But it'll cruise there easily the whole time, but even with the limiter removed, there wouldn't be much more it could give. At 124MPH, the RPMs are around 4800 RPMs already. Also they don't track you by satellite radio, there's no connection to it here anyways.

If you can locate your car on your Lincoln Way app they know where you are at all times if "they" wanted to. As far as speed I wouldn't race this car unless the PTU had fresh gear oil in it before racing it and drain and fill after. Ford/Lincoln should have let the AWD  controlled in the back that's how it's done in the explorer and aviator as well as the navigator that's why the sedans are gonecan you keep up I know there are several topics I'm speaking with just you (bbf2530) if I with the Lincoln Way app can see via satellite it's 2 way Ford and Lincoln Way more it's free for the life of the car for a reason selling my data and I'm cool with that and yes I know what you were discussing I just thought you could track a programming topic along with mechanical parts and the reason Ford and Lincoln no longer sells sedans. CADILAC does sell AWD SEDANS because they place the engine in the car longitudinal and the car is RWD biased. Go pop the hood on a new Ford Explorer the engine is longitudinal it's built correctly maybe Ford will bring back the MKZ in an EV oh dear more topics in one comment

Hi BB. I can keep up with all things that make sense. If you wish to discuss other topics, feel free to begin your own, new thread. However, do not hijack the threads of others who are looking for help.

It is common courtesy. Good luck.

Hi Krcatl1991. Although it has been almost 3 years since you first posted, we are happy to hear you are liking your MKZ over there. Still stationed in Germany? And if yes, for how long?

Thanks for your service and good luck.

Punctuation and dropping the stream of consciousness style would help as well.

I just returned from a 4 year assignment in Wiesbaden, Germany.  I bought my 2017 MKZ Black Label specifically to take over there with me, it was my third assignment to Germany and I knew what I wanted.  The AWD 3.0 did not disappoint!  I put Vredestein all seasons on that were rated for 168 MPH and moved my oil changes to twice a year.  I never had a single issue with the car.

The 155ish cut off was annoying, accelerating up to it gave indication of quite a bit more left untapped.  But, I did not want to mess with it too much while still under warrantee.  Getting up to 155 was amazing, I hurt a bunch of feelings of the BMW and Mercedes crowd.  Unless it was Italian, AMG, or a true M - I normally got in front of it - for a bit.  The 911's almost always smoked me, as did any turbo Porsche.  But they were intrigued by the MKZ and I got lots of looks.  Best money I every spent.
