THX sound system

I have the THX system in my MXZ. I do not know how all the functions work yet but I do have a question about the radio. Are there speakers on the rear shelf? When I sit in the back I can't hear anything but the front speakers even when the balance is a little to the rear. Am I doing something wrong or is this how it's supposed to be?

Yep, there are two subwoofers and a center tweeter in the rear parcel shelf, along with the tweeter and mid-range speakers in each rear door.  I noticed the same as you, so I went to the dealer and asked to listen to another MKZ with the THX system.  It too had weak rear volume.  I don't have a clue why it works this way.  :(

Just purchased a new 2014 MKZ with THX system, replacing 2011 Edge.  It is by far the worst stereo system of any car.  It's twice as low as the Edge system.  I don't think it's even a Sony.  Everything about it is bad.  More sound comes from the front center speaker than any other.  The rear speakers are very low.  much less bass than the Edge.  I tried every setting.  It just sucks.  There is no way this thing is 700 watts.  The sound is not crisp.  The treble is not high enough.  The sound quality of the Bluetooth speaker phone sucks too.  It's not as clear as the Edge.  Very disappointed.

Yes, I blame myself for thinking that this stereo is supposed to sound as good or better than what I had in the Edge.  The stereo is the only thing I didn't test.  I didn't think an $1100 upgrade would really sound like a $20 stereo.  I've tried every setting possible.  My RAV4 sounds 100 times better than this garbage.  Even if I set the RAV4 stereo flat on treble, bass and mid, it still sounds better.

I bet when I take it to the dealer, they will tell me there is nothing wrong with it.

I've been looking into upgrading the THX sound stereo in my 2010 MKZ.  It looks like it would be best to just add-in a "DSP" - Digital Sound Processor.  Only problem is, the only DSP that will work with the MKZ is the HELIX Match....Minimum of $650 before labor and harnesses, wires, etc...

Any other suggestions?

I haven't heard the 2010 but from what I've gathered online you have a jukebox and a dvd player to play true 5.1 surround. That's alot better than DSP which I think must be fake surround. My 2015 "THX 5.1 surround sound system" not only doesn't have a dvd player to play a 5.1 source but the usb doesn't even support wav files like it says it does in the manual. I do love the hd radio but I'm not sure its worth giving up the ability to play any real surround music like on a dvd audio. I called Lincoln and got a typical clueless "well it's THX surround sound quality" whatever that means. Guess u have to be real music geek these days to appreciate the irony and recognize all the false advertising around this system. SS truly is dead. Consider yourself lucky u have the older system.

All that being said, I'm sure maybe the DSP is very good for HD radio as it is really crystal clear. Very little lossless dvd audio content is available anyway (never caught on) and this system really makes HD radio live up to the potential of what I'd always hoped .Much better sound than XM, its free and there are a lot of HD stati

ons these days.

With HD radio the THX is one of the best car audio

systems I've ever heard. My aftermarket head units HD

radio in my other car isn't nearly as good and the Navi is

quiet so I really get to enjoy.

so quiet I really get to enjoy even at highway speeds.I guess if 5.1 these days just means a center channel and a sub and setting DSP to surround lets you enjoy all music discretely then Lincoln did a nice job with the 2015 system. Most people

Just bought 2015 hybrid with THX.  Dealer played the demo THX sound button which blew my socks off.  Thought I was in for a real audio experience.  So this is what I found:  The system has fine fidelity...sound frequency bands can be set to anyone's preferences.  Fader has good range--no problem getting adequate volume in the back, although I found that I had to put the fader about halfway between center and rear to get balanced volume.  Bass very good.  Better than most car systems I've heard.  BUT, and this is a killer:  The center speaker volume is considerably louder than the side speakers.  Since the center speaker combines the right and left channels, if the center speaker is dominant, it drounds out the stereo separation you would normally hear from the right and left speaker.  I don't know about previous systems, but this one doesn't have any DSP settings other than "stereo" and "surround" which do nothing on satellite radio setting.  You can't get to any hidden menus (press 3 and 6 on presets, etc.) that I'm aware of. It honestly sounds like a hi-fi monaural system from the early 60's.  If a good car stereo system is high on your list of must-haves, this car is not for you, at least not the trim model with the THX system.  I have a call into the dealer.  Will post upshot.
