Billm
Drove the car for the fist time in the snow last night. These tires have teeth! Extremely impressed with them! Went with 245/45/18 on 18 in wheels for the snows. Car has 19 inch touring package and car had new Conti Extreme Contact DSW on it when bought used last year. I have the Conti DSW on other vehicles and found them to be very quiet, good in rain, but they are NOT a snow tire! The Michelin Ice Xi3 are even quieter than the Conti DSW. R2D2
You northern guys have to learn to not use those 4 letter words .....snow ;) :whistling:
TomV
My Lincoln also has 245/40R19 - 26.7" diameter factory tires on it now and I'm also planning on 18" snow wheels/tires. Probably going with a 18x8" wide rim, thus looking for snows in the 3 possible sizes: 245/45R18 26.7" <-- factory dia. but sorta wide for snow 235/45R18 26.3" <-- 1/2" lower 225/50R18 26.9" <-- best choice for snow, but MKZ is a heavy car Narrower tires are actually better in snow, but I'm worried the 225 will be a bit narrow on an 8" rim. Billm, How wide are your rims? Do you have any pictures?

Billm, How wide are your rims? Do you have any pictures? Hi Tom. An 8" wheel is acceptable for most 225/50 tires. It is on the top end, but still acceptable. You simply need to be sure you purchase a snow tire with an acceptable load rating. At least equal to the factory tires on your car. You can go to The Tire Rack and find the tire/wheel specs for almost any tire: https://www.tirerack.com/content/tirerack/desktop/en/homepage.html Not too sure if you will get a reply from the OP (Billm). He has not signed on for over a year. Let us know how you make out and good luck.
TomV
Well, I finally made my decision and went with the narrower wheels, because of Lincoln's stock 55mm offset. I chose MSW TYPE 86 GUNMETAL 18 X 7.5 with a 45mm offset. This way the backspacing difference is only around .13" or so and won't stick out too much. For tires I went with 225/50R-18 MICHELIN X-ICE XI3 XL I'm going to try test fitting them this weekend and will post the results whether they are a good fit or not. TomV
I tried one on the rear and fit is pretty good. The new wheel/tire combo is also 6 lbs. lighter than the factory. I don't think my old scale is super accurate, but I measured 45 lbs. compared to 51 lbs. I plan on installing them sometime in December and will take another picture. TomV
Winter wheels officially installed. Theses use smaller lug nuts, so I made sure to the adapter socket and 5 original lugs in the trunk for the spare tire if needed.
TomV
My commute to work is about 35 miles each way. Mainly highway and I've been driving this route for 22 years. I've driven about 100 miles on the Michelin Ice Xi3 tires since mounting. They are smooth and quiet at city speeds.Definitely softer than the factory all seasons... but that's to be expected. I might even change my suspension mode from Comfortable to Normal since the side walls are more compliant. Highway speeds seem a bit nosier than I hoped, but not excessive. The first generation of Michelin Ice X tires I had on my Ford Fusion were extremely quiet and lasted 8 winters. Probably the best tires I ever owned for what they were designed for. It rained fairly heavy yesterday and I felt very confident driving with the Ice Xi3 . I never look forward to snow travel, but I'm curious to how well they perform. I heard the MKz does well in the snow with all season tires, so I'll report back after my first experience.
TomV
Another season done! Thanks to COVID, I didn’t drive much the two winters and really didn’t need these yet.
