drolds1
Reprogramming of the BCM needs to be done by a dealer. There was a TSB for this. I had it done on my 2014 after receiving a letter from Ford. If you're still under the B2B warranty, there will be no charge. drolds1
Sorry about that my bad. So that's what Drolds mean. No worries. I guess you're too young to know about that ad campaign. ;) It dates back to the musclecar era. Robert Iggy Cerami

Airflow
That is a great ad campaign. I like the Frankenstein theme. I’m born in ‘79 and heard of the 442, but not the W part.
Izzy3906
Just an update, I took my MKZ to the dealer and they did an update to the BCM and now the trunk wont open unless I have the key fob close to the car. Thanks again to Drolds. All under warranty. R2D2

Chris109
Just realized my 13 Zh's trunk will open without fob and doors locked, by pressing that button above the license plate. So that means that the car is, basically, ready to be broken into? Is there a way to disengage that button? Your MKZ needs the Body Control Module reprogramming which drolds linked to in one of his posts above. Here it is again - https://ford.oemdtc.com/1035/luggage-compartment-lid-can-be-opened-while-vehicle-is-locked-2013-2014-lincoln-mkz The reprogramming is covered if you are still within the original bumper to bumper warranty period. It may be covered if you have a Lincoln Extended Service Plan, contingent on the plan you have. If neither applies, you will need to discuss it with your Dealer's Service Department as to cost. If you have a good relationship with your Dealer, you may be able to have them cover it next time you are in for service. Let us know how you make out and good luck. Izzy3906
Hello Chris just like bbf2530 said just give it a try with your dealer and see what they can do for you. I had the same problem and the dealer took care of it, didn't even take them that long. Hope they can fix your problem.
Chris109
Need to bring it back in tomorrow cause the detail job they did last week left an ungodly odor in the car. They're going to do it again. I'll see if they can do that reprogramming. Thx y'all.
IraF
I am glad that you mentioned this and as they say "One Learns Something New every Day" I have a Lincoln 2017 MKZ and I was able to open the trunk by just pushing the button on top of the trunk, "HOWEVER", there is a way in my car to disable that from happening, by going to vehicle and "Disabling Remote Decklid" which can be found by left hand switch on dashboard, skip 1. 2.System Information 3. Vehicle on/off Remote Decklid-->Off. No FOB on me, I tried opening trunk as you described but couldn't, with key fob on me or by unlocking trunk from car that still works. Pictures shown as perhaps my explanation not clear. Edited June 16, 2018 by IraF

I don't know if fiddling with it fixed the situation or I was just being an idiot and never knowing if I even had the doors locked in the first place. But, I did this and now the button will only work with fob or doors unlocked. As for "One Learns Something New Every Day", I remember when Ronald Reagan announced he had Alzhaimer's, he said the best thing about it was that he would meet someone new every day. IraF
I have had this car since January 2017 and never knew about Trunk unlocking without an FOB and when I go to a mall obviously I put things in the trunk and I am willing to bet some "BAD GUYS" are aware of this fact. Thanks for the info you mentioned previously in one of your posts which obviously got my attention.

Pictures shown as perhaps my explanation not clear. If your decklid opens by pushing the outside button without the fob in close proximity on a 2017, then you have a malfunction and should take it to the dealer. The exterior button should not open the lid without the fob. It certainly doesn't on my 2017 and that's the way it was designed, as it is on every other kind of car that has an exterior decklid switch. Press the exterior release button to open the luggage compartment. Your vehicle must be unlocked or have an intelligent access transmitter within 3 ft (1 m) of the luggage compartment. IraF
After FIXING the PROBLEM as I mentioned above the decklid no longer opens UNLESS I HAVE THE KEYFOB. No Need for me to see dealer. See #
drolds1
Yes, I saw your post #15. No need for me to see it again. Did you see my post #2? I reiterate: The decklid is NOT SUPPOSED TO OPEN WITH THE EXTERIOR SWITCH IF THE DOORS ARE LOCKED AND THE FOB IS NOT WITHIN 3FT OF THE CAR. Why would Lincoln issue a TSB to correct a malfunction if it was designed that way in the first place? How would owners of cars without a power decklid apply your "fix?" There's no switch to disengage in their menu. All you did by disengaging the switch was shut off the power decklid feature. You can switch the power decklid feature on or off in the information display. See General Information. The remote control and instrument panel button will still operate the decklid regardless of the setting. My 2017's decklid will not open by pressing the exterior switch if the doors are locked and the fob is not present EVEN WITH THE SWITCH IN THE 'ENGAGED' POSITION. (I can shout over the Internet too). IraF
After going to dealer my car works actually as it should whether decklid is enabled or disabled, no fix needed, just a "NEW KEYFOB" needed under warranty, didn't even know keyfob's are not always programmed correctly. New KeyFob, decklid enabled, new keyfob more then 3ft away, cannot open trunk with doors locked Disabled powerdecklid cannot open trunk if keyfob is more then 3ft away. KeyFob Culprit, no tsb needed. Checked with other keyfob and that too needed replacement, under warranty problem fixed. Still no work needed to be done with car. So it works as it is supposed to as you indicated but did not know about KeyFobs. Edited June 18, 2018 by IraF
Chris109
While I was away, I was able to open my trunk without the fob and with the doors locked. Didn't realize that it did this until I discovered I had forgotten my key in the hotel. All of my computers and important stuff were in the trunk while I stayed overnight in hotels. Won't open by the button with the decklid disabled.
