A Day Late & A Dollar Short

My wife and I have been looking for an MKZ to replace our present Lincolns. We check various sites on the internet. My wife wants a White MKZ with White or light color interior. Also wants the Sync with 8" screen & backup camera, plus moonroof.

"A Day Late"

Last week, on Saturday evening, I spotted a 2010 at a dealer 75 miles from home. Left a message on their website, and got an automated message telling me that they received the message, and that someone would contact me the following day (Sunday).

OK, Received a second message that again, said they had the car and would call me on Sunday. Well, by 4pm sunday, I still had not heard from them, I phoned, and both the Internet Manager and the Used Car Manager were not working that day, however the salesperson told me that the car had been sold the previous day, (Saturday) at 4pm. I returned the message back to them telling them that if the salesperson was wrong, to phone me and I would go and look. No calls to date.

"A Dollar Short"

I continued checking various internet sites, and yesterday I noticed that one car that I thought was a 2010, and overpriced, was in fact a 2011 and reasonable. Equiped just the way she wants, except for the exterior color. Maroon vice White. Located 50 miles from me. OK, we were going to check it out today (Christmas Eve) as yesterday evening, a salesperson told me they would be open all day today, until 8pm. Wrong. Glad I phoned before we left home, as the Internet Manager told me that they close at 2pm today. Saved me a trip. We will go there late Monday morning or early afternoon to check it out.

We really want a 2010-2011 because the Sync with 8" screen is already complicated enough. The 2013's which will come out in mid 2012 will have the Sync MyLincoln Touch, which is even more complicated. Some 2012 (and perhaps 2011) Lincoln models (MKT, MKX) already have the MyLincoln Touch, and everything I've read about it says that Ford is "shooting themselves in the foot" with that system as it is much too complicated, including special training classes at dealers for customers to learn the system. Fewer buttons and switches as everything is on the screen, once you find the correct screen. I just can't see older customers (who buy Lincolns) using that MyTouch system with ease. The version of Sync with 8" screen I have in my SHO is complicated enough and this is the same Sync that is in the 2010-2012 MKZ. This is one reason I don't want the 2013 when it comes out, even though the 2013 will be redesigned. I need something that is easy to use. I still have not mastered the Sync with 8" screen in my SHO. The Sync with 8" screen in the 2010-1012 MKZ is the very same as the one in my SHO, so we will not have to re-learn the MyTouch Sync.

Wish me luck on monday. If they give me a good deal, we will buy it. :worship: If not, I will keep looking. :finger:

I got it. . Drove up there and took it for a test drive. Liked it very much. Talked it over with my wife, as it is really for her, then gave a deposit. Returned yesterday, paid them the rest, and drove it home. Had to fight off the F&I guy who just does not take "no" for an answer, when he tried to get me to buy all the extras, extended warranties, paint protection, leather protection, etc etc etc. I can see why guys often buy stuff they don't want or need. I told the salesperson that "I'd rather eat worms than visit with the F&I guy".

The Sync 8" Navigation is identical to the one in my SHO, except for minor screen color differences. I spent a lot of time today setting up all the am/fm/serious settings, plus the address in the destination sections. Also had to set up the doors for for driver 1 and driver 2, with the buttons on the drivers door, and setting up each key for each driver.

Car drives like a dream. Much smoother than my SHO. Has all the power that any reasonable person could ever want. (Sure, not as "fast" as my SHO, but I seldom ever use all the power in my SHO). Also a few mpg better than either my SHO or the

02 Continental that we traded.

BTW, Ford/Lincoln did a GREAT job in tweeking the AWF21 transmission, compared to the same transmission in my 07 MKZ. Never could understand why they still purchase this transmission from Japan as they use the 6F50 (or 6F55) transmission in the Taurus and MKS, however as much as I hate that AWF21 in the 2007 MKZ, I love it in the 2011 (2010-2012) MKZ.
