keithriz
My 2014 AWD MKZ shudders when first starting to drive from a stop, especially when turning. For example, if I'm stopped at an intersection at which I want to make a right turn, the car shudders (you can feel and hear it) if I start moving while the steering wheel is turned to the right (this goes for a left turn also). It feels a lot like when I take my SUV out on dry pavement when it's in 4WD Low mode (which is bad for the tires). Has anyone experienced this with their AWD MKZ? drolds1
Might be the PTU. What's the mileage? Are you still covered under the 6/70 powertrain warranty? If so, I'd make a service appointment.
keithriz
It has about 30K miles on it. Just bought it from CarMax about 1.5 months ago. We did purchase a bumper to bumper plan from them, so, I think this would be covered. As a first time owner of an AWD vehicle, I wanted to be sure this was not normal before taking it in. We test drove it on a rainy day, so, we didn't notice it then. The tires are not the best, but they did pass state inspection. I had seen some conversation on in other forums about worn tires fooling the drive system into thinking that one of the tires was slipping, and thus, forces it into the AWD mode. Not sure how this one works as it's my understanding that there are several different designs for AWD systems.
brucelinc
Definitely not normal behavior. Have it checked out for sure.
