SYNC 3 Version 3.0 (North America)

Recommended Posts

Just wanted to give a heads up that an unofficial manual update to Sync 3 version 3.0 has been made available here:

http://www.mustang6g.com/forums/showthread.php?t=90236  (I used the second mirror for the file)

It has been installed on Ford Fusion's, F150's and Mustangs with Sync 3.  It is confirmed to fix the album art issue with the media player on USB music.

I think Ford only releases a single file for Navigation equipped vehicles, so in theory it should work for the MKZ.

I may try this later today.  I will post my results.  If anyone else trys the update, please post your results.

Thanks

Thanks for the file

Download FordSync3_3.0_navigation_update.zip  ****** to hard drive.******

Create new folder and extract to this folder and then copy to USB

You should have 1 folder SyncMyRide  *******Leave alone******** but check to make sure you have 5 files with extension *.gz

Along with 2 files

autoinstall.lst

DONTINDX.MSA

Note I have 3 usb's , but only two are recognized by car although all three are recognized by laptop

Start car and insert usb into slot.

Be patient!!!!!!!!!!

Maps load slower and from the link you provided earlier I notice that person has mapupdate 114 while I have map 115

I noticed mobile apps update, don't remember seeing this before.

I tried a cd and the album and artist were recognized with correct tracks, but not the album art, but then again this was on a cd and not as an mp3 file

I didn't notice interface changes other then mobile apps, but it looks like Lincoln may have addressed a complaint from a number of people with regards to album art not showing up, although other information with regards to

music was correct. My music is on CD's not thumbdrives and all information was correct , track#, song artist and so on but not the correct album art although the correct artist was depicted.

So I thought I would go ahead and put some music on the same thumbdrive that updated sync3 , of course deleting previous files.

It looks like Lincoln fixed the album art problem as viewed by the pics , please forgive for the dust and fingerprints on one of the pics.

I installed the update today.  Seemed to take a while but everything is working fine.  The album art issue has been corrected.

Along with what Ira mentioned, the only UI change I see is the XM radio icon in sources.  They changed the doggy to just SXM.

The maps do seem to load slower but after some time they seem to speed back up.  Could just be a caching thing.

Ha, I didn't even think to mention of having Sync 3.0 installed. I picked it up over 2 weeks ago. Good thinking of crushalot to share this.

The map loading will pick back up to speed, as a user mentioned, it just a cache building. It does take a bit to start updating and installing, but you can do it while driving like normal.

I haven't seen anything negative since switching over. So it seems update 3.0 pretty stable and successful.

I have Navigation Maps 1 15. Is the map update 1 14 newer? Or an older version of maps? What's different?

You seem to be a pro in this forum. Keep me posted of any issues. Any problems with Bluetooth connectivity? Sync 3 v2.2 seems to disconnect/reconnect my Galaxy S8 phone pretty often. I'm considering updating, just for the album art issue alone...since I have over 10,000 mp3s on a flash drive. But I was reading on the Ford Mustang forums that there are some issues with Android Auto. One poster reported that when you're using Android Auto, then switch to reverse (and the backup camera comes on), then switch back to drive, it drops back to the Sync interface. There's a little delay before it switches back to Android Auto, and sometimes it doesn't switch back at all. I'm so paranoid about upgrading, because I understand there's no way to go back...

Not sure why our MKZ's seem to have Maps 1 15 and the Mustangs look to be 1 14.  I would think that the 1 15 would be newer but it may just be that there are different map updates available for different vehicles or perhaps between Lincoln and Ford.

I use an iPhone and BT has been fine and CarPlay and IOS 11 are great.  I have an android device at home and if I remember I will try to test AA auto for you.

Overall the 3.0 update seems to be an improvement.  As for when it may released officially, can't say.  However if they started a soak test of the software a few week ago (The first it appeared in forums) then I would guess at least 30 to 90 days.

Is it possible that the map update was included in this update, to me it seems likely.

Tried reporting update sync 3 version 3 via WiFi, didn't work.

What is messed up is the Lincoln account for people who have registered their mkz's

Still reporting latest version is sync3 2.3 which is non existent and yes they are fully aware of this glitch. At least a month for this glitch.

Still reporting activate your vehicle health report for mkz's with sync3 and yes they are fully aware of this. This issue has been ongoing for a few months now.

I had Maps version 1 15 before the update to Sync 3.0 so I don't think there was any map update in this.  Also because before installing I looked at every file down to the IMG level in the zip files and there was no maps.img or anything seemingly related to the maps.

I agree that the version reporting on the owner site is ridiculous, but that had been on ongoing issue since sync 2.0 (2013 I think) and I bet they just don't care since most don't really pay attention to versions of software in their car if everything is working.

I consider version 2.0 a buggy beta product so I upgraded to 3.0 today and will publish my findings later. Instructions printed above did the trick.

When inserting the USB into your car nothing will happen at all for a few minutes. Eventually you will see Downloading System Update. Took about 20 to 25 minutes altogether.

For those of you who upgraded to Sync 3, v3.0, did you notice any "new" roads show up on your map that didn't display previously? There are several new streets in my city that were obviously constructed since this map data was released. I'm curious to know when Lincoln will do a map update, since the first cars with Sync 3 (2016 MKCs) are now headed towards three years old.

Haven’t noticed any road changes on nav.

Voice commands have changed, and simplified. I like the new ones better. My Sync Pandora app has disappeared and I can’t find how to get it back. Playing of podcasts has been fine.

It does seem less buggy than version 2.X but it’s only been a couple of days.

Still showing the same map version.  I did notice something in the last change log for the Lincoln Way app in the iPhone Appstore:  It states that the app will be used for updating map info on the car.  I didn't see anything on the menus when Carplay or the app was running on the Sync 3 Apps list when my iPhone was plugged in.  Might be coming soon though.

It has the same thing in the Google Play store. Also, there's supposed to be the ability to send an address to your Sync 3 for navigation and have it ready when you get to the car. Unfortunately, it says these features will be for 2018 vehicles only.

But I'm still waiting to hear from a couple more folks about performance or any glitches with Sync 3 version 3.0. If Lincoln hasn't provided an official update via WiFi or USB by the first of the year, I'm just going to bite the bullet and install this one.

  • 1 month later...

sync 3 interface is great but version 3 still buggy.

Plugged in my iPhone, tried to play music, wouldn’t work.

Unplugged and replugged, suddenly the Pandora app option appeared. Ok. Tried playing that. Wouldn’t work.

Now I could play songs on my plugged in iphone. Pushing skip on the steering wheel doesn’t skip to next song. It skips 4 songs.

And would someone tell me how to save my current location on the nav as a favorite?

Has anyone who installed this unofficial 3.0 update used Android Auto?  Since getting the official update from 2.0 to 2.3 about a month back Android Auto stopped working entirely on my 17 MKZ.  Considering trying this 3.0 update if AA is working for others.

Thanks...

I took my 2017 mkz hybrid to the dealer for a power trunk issue...would not close sometimes... and i asked them to check my self upgraded sync 2.3 install. I couldn't get it to report the upgrade to Lincoln. When i got my car back I checked the Sync version and it is now 3.0. They upgraded it without me asking. No charge of course!
