2014 MKZ rough ride all settings

Recommended Posts

Purchased car with 17k. Have driven 4K and tried comfort, normal, and sport. Two times in shop. Diagnostics show OK. Did replace right front strut. When hitting bumps rear end of car rolls. Driving today and had to disengage cruise control. Particularly bad in turns. Worst ride in Lincoln I have ever experienced.

You mean it doesn't ride as smooth as glass!  : (

I've got a 2017 with 2K and have found the ride much less than expected, vibration transfer thru the chassis, and terrible shock absorption from minor road bumps. I've actually gotten a better ride out of a  Toyota Prius, and Honda Civic.  I feel your pain.

I'm of the assumption many MKZ owners simply have had a bit too much of the cool aid or have been use to driving cars like the Ford Mustang or Chevy Corvette.  : )

POI, The use of low profile tires in this luxury sedan for the sake of appearance and handling is a huge mistake for those looking for not only a smooth ride, but one that can take the bumps as well,as the low profile tires do neither IMHO. That's my story and I'm sticking to it. Sorry for the rant, but seeing how you asked.  Guess you may just need to get use to it, for better or worse, just like marriage, only this one wasn't exactly made in heaven. :)

I have owned a 06 Zephyr, 2011 MKZ, and 2014 MKZ and recently purchased a new 2017 MKZ AWD with drivers sport package.  I really liked the ride in the 2011 the best out of all the older models and I put 100K miles on it.

The 2014 had the rear end roll you speak of and I wasn't happy with the ride quality so I traded it for the 2017 AWD after only 6 months.  I have less than 1000 miles on the 17 but the handling is a night and day difference from the 2014 FWD.  I also drove some base model 2017's with AWD and the ride was much better than the 14 FWD as would be expected.

Sad to hear the ride is still not great on the 2017 FWD models.  I am really happy with the 2017 AWD and I think it rides really good.  Very smooth.  Maybe not glass like the Benz or BMW, but way better than the older models.

Easyrider I agree with you 100% about the low-profile tires which is why I went with the Select trim level, for the 18" wheels.

My bad, I should have known better. Low profile tires are for the sports car enthusiast, not one looking for luxury, and comfort, with a dash of sporty. What was I thinking! :)

Thanks to all who replied. My previous MKZ was s 2008 AWD driven 111000 miles with no issues. I was expecting a great ride with the adaptive suspension. Might have to try different tires as mentioned. Hard to believe that a system that reacts every 4 milliseconds can not react to a low profile tire?

Just purchased a 2016 MKZh  (8k) with the 19 inch Michelin mxm4 a/s tires (I don't know if these are considered low profile). The ride is a little better than my 2013 MKZh with 18's which was very good, also I can feel the slight difference in the ride settings better . I really feel the the difference when turning off the ecco button ,the car has more pick up (as much as a hybrid can). I had the rolling movement in the rear of my 2013 and the dealer had to replace the  rear shocks at 45,000 miles , that fixed the problem. Now it may be the hybrid might ride different than the other engine models.
