Windshield Washer

Recommended Posts

i was having an issue with the washer portion of the wipers not always working or if they came on then there would not be enough pressure to spray the windshield, just dribbled out.

I flushed the system with just water and things seemed to work for a while but then the problem came back.

Now I get no response at all from the washer's pump like it is dead in the water.

Tried looking to see if there is a fuse anywhere specific for this but unsuccessful. Only found one fuse for the wiper motor but the wipers are working, just the washer is dead.

Any idea before I call for a service appointment?

Looks like even just getting to the pump would be a major headache...

Can you hear the pump making noise when trying it?  If so it may be that you need to prime it but I didn't think that was needed with the newer pumps.  I did have a washer pump fail and needed to be replaced in my 2011 MKZ.

If it doesn't make any noise, it may need to be replaced.  Still have a few months left on the factory warranty, so dealer should fix at no charge.

Thanks for your reply.

It doesn't make any noise and was never dry so I am going to rule out a priming issue.... Time to call the dealer I guess

Dealer (Gary Yoemans Lincoln in Daytona Beach, FL) took care of this on my fastest service call yet yesterday morning!

I had an appointment for 9AM , arrived about 15 minutes early. Met with the service adviser.  Sat down with a cup of coffee and a new book I wanted to read as I told them I was going to wait for the car (no loaner available).

I didn't even get to finish my coffee when the adviser came into the lounge and handed me my key at 9:17....all fixed with new pump and washed....wow ... I can't get an oil change done that fast.

BTW it was a dead washer pump.

I love my dealer's service department  :love_shower:  :headspin:

That's good to hear instead of a complaint.

  • 3 months later...

Well it has been back once again for the washer pump just dribbling. The last shot they claimed that it was a partial blockage in the line from the pump. They said they cleared it but it is just dribbling again.

... waiting to get back into service, I am betting that the new pump put installed in August is actually defective.
