Jasond777
The sound is faint and it sounds like pop pop pop when braking, I sometimes hear it when accelerating from a stop. It sounds like it's coming from the rear of the car but it doesn't sound louder with the window down. There isn't a problem braking and the car is a 2008 mkz. jmcgliss
Stuck caliper? This week I replaced two front caliper brackets with seized slider pins (2005 Subaru Legacy GT 140,000 miles). There wasn't noise, but a grabbing sensation when accelerating moderately from a stop. The one time I did hear noise, it was a rear brake pad that had cracked in half and would clunk against the rotor when brake pressure was released. MediumWilly22
That's a good call jmcgliss. It could be a delaminated brake pad friction surface. A corroded caliper slide is a potential culprit as well. Rear brakes are only responsible for about 30% of your braking power so a condition where braking power from the rear slowly degenerates over a period of time can sometimes be hard to detect by the daily driver. Does the vehicle pull to one side or the other under hard brake application? Does the parking brake work correctly on a hill?
Jasond777
Today while driving to work the noise was happening even at 30-40 mph but just while picking up speed or slowing down. I only started hearing this two days ago after rolling down the rear driver side window and the noise seems to be coming from that area. Jasond777
The car did pull to the left when braking quickly.
4N1M4L
I have a sound kind of like that but i'm sure its my AWD ptu going bad. at 190k surely the thing has leaked at some point.
MediumWilly22
The left rear brake assembly is doing its job. I suspect a problem with the right rear. If you stick a flashlight in the wheel and look at the brake rotors, do you see any rust?
Jasond777
It appears to be the seat, I am able to replicate it by moving back and forth in the driver seat but it appears to be only in certain positions.
