Which Do You Prefer?

Can of worms unleashed!

Most will be biased based on what they own. Either love one and hate the other.

I like the aggressive yet standard luxury-like appearance of the 2017 front. Especially now the MKZ can be a real power house. This is one prime reason I joined Lincoln because the front end and powertrain holds more aggression behind it, while still being aimed at comfort.

A 2017 is more intimidating to see in the rearview, especially when its led lights are on with a luxury package upgrade. The HIDs strike me as more tame. This now moves into the charm of the 2013 to 16 front style.

2016 to 2013 is more fitting for the comfortable and quiet cruising style the Lincolns are proposed to bring. So for the hybrids and stock 2.0Ts...its a bit more fitting to them in my opinion.

I liked the split wing grill, but feel the new grill is the best look yet. I also feel this current design will work best with more aggressive lower valance styling should Lincoln (hopefully) start to design more enthusiast specific models.

I had a black 2013 MKZh - and I love the look of the split wing on that car.

When I saw the 2017 MKZ at the Atlanta Car Show in April 2016, I hated the new front end.  Decided I would keep the 2013 a few years more and would probably go with a different brand/model when it was time to trade in.

Fast forward to July 2016 and I was driving by the Lincoln Dealer, they had just received a white 2017 MKZ and put it on one of the display pedestals out by the road.   In white, I absolutely loved the new front end.

Long story short.  I now own a white 2017 MKZ.   I still do not like the new front end on some of the other colors, but on white - I love it.

I know... I'm weird!

I don't really have a dog in this fight since I don't own an MKZ but my preference would be that the Z grill be the 2017 version but laid back at a sportier and more aerodynamic slant.  I like the 2017 version but I don't think it goes well with the rear of the Z.  The front is too formal in my opinion.    It looks OK on the Continental and upcoming Navigator since those models are rather formal looking, anyway.

I like both. The 2017 front is a good match to the interior mods, whereas the 2013-2016 matches the rear styling best.

But, if Lincoln changes the attractive rear end styling I am done. They have something distinctive there.

To my eye the '13-'16 front-end looks "droopy". I much prefer the more squared-off, "prominent" look of the 2017 front-end design.

I agree.  IMO, the split-wing design works much better when it's more upright, such as on the MKC and MKX.  That "droop" killed it for me and it was my least favorite styling feature of my 2014.

Yes, I very much liked the look of the split-wing grille on the 2010 MKZ that I (and you) had. I think that was the first use of that design? Edited by longislander

I believe it was first used for production on the 2009 MKS but first appeared on the 2007 MKR concept:Lincoln-MKR-Concept-08.jpg

I have a black 2017 and love it. It is my dream car, custom made just for me. But believe or not I drive by a black 2009-2012 that's always parked on the same Street and mean mug it in jealousy, lol. I love that grille and would possibly trade it for the 2017. It's a toss up.

But to answer the original question, I am not a fan of the 2013-2016. Glad they changed it last year when I decided to buy one cuz I probably would of got it, not loving it. Phew :-)

This is a fun subject. The MKZ is a great car with either style because of its overall ride and features. However,on the 2013 - 16 model they went toward a futuristic look which showed a lot of imagination and set it apart from the more conservative looking continental. There was a number of ways they could have evolved the split wing grill on the MKZ and kept its unique look and put the new grill on the continental , instead they now made both look more or less alike. I also think that the rear end style is more suitable to the rounded split wing front. When they changed the front they should  have also restyled the back end. I had a choice and went for a used 2016 with very low miles. My perfect MKZ would be the 16 with the upgraded interior of the 17.
