18" or 19" wheels on 2014

Recommended Posts

Guys, I am ordering a new MKZ Hybrid and can't choose between the 18" and 19" wheels.  After testing both, I could swear the bigger 19"s actually provided the softer ride.  How is that possible? I thought the smaller tire would provide the softer, more luxury feel.  Could the dealer just be underinflating the 19s?  I did switch the 18s to "comfort mode" and it got a little softer but not as soft as the 19s.  I feel like I am taking crazy pills.please help.

When I worked at Shelby, I spoke with Ford engineers who tested every combination of tire for the GT500KR program - the 18s won hand down in every ride/handling category.  However, the 20s (or in the the MKZ's case, the 19s) looked a lot better on the car.

My advice is to do some demo rides - the difference between 18/19 might not be that significant.

The 19" look much better and make the car in my opinion. As far as the ride goes I tested both and did not notice any difference. It is such a great riding car that any difference felt would be negligible.

Unless you're going to track it, the difference between the sizes on the MKZ are not a lot, performance wise.
