Picked Up My 2017 3.0T AWD Z Today

Finally! After probably about a year of dreaming, 7 weeks of order waiting, and a weekend knowing it was sitting at my dealership, I picked up my Z today. It was definitely worth the wait!!

Initial thoughts:

Fit and Finish: High quality inside and out. The carbon fiber inlays add a very sporty and high tech feel to the interior. Diamond Black paint is gorgeous. Looks pure black in many circumstances until the sun hits just right and then the silver metallic flakes pop! Loving the magnetic gray front grill and black brake calipers. The Driver's Package wheels work very well with this car and the all season tires look aggressive.

Startup: Starts quick and gets right to a quiet idle. You barely notice it's running with doors closed and windows up as the engine is vibration free.

First drive: The first thing I noticed was how much firmer the Driver's Package suspension is relative to a non-Driver's Package 3.0T AWD. And I have only driven it in Comfort so far. Not jarring or overly firm though and the suspension still soaks up bumps like they are barely there. The car is very composed. I can't wait to feel it in Sport, but I'm waiting until 1,000 miles when it's broken in.

Power: Haven't tested past 4,500 rpm and half throttle, but I can tell the power is there... More to come on this once it's broken in.

Features: The seats are supportive and snug. Adjustability is ridiculous in a good way. I haven't even begun to get my position correct yet. Massaging and cooling features both work quickly and well. I noticed a more relaxed feeling after using the massage feature.

20 speaker Revel is insane! Fantastic highs and lows. Very balanced sound system. I cranked Welcome to the Jungle (as I have done with every car I have ever bought as part of my private christening process) and the opening guitar riff was off the charts!

LED headlights look like jewels during the day. Can't wait to try them at night.

Adaptive cruise works very nicely too. During the walkthrough, the salesman mentioned that the distance adjustments are based on time, not distance. So, at higher speed, 4 dashes will result in more space between the car ahead relative to 4 dashes at a lower speed. Clever!

Overall: I am very pleased with my purchase!

Bonus: CarPlay display is amazing. Great resolution and colors. Can't wait to play with this part more.

Will update more as time goes on...

Congrats! Good things come to those who wait.

Looks great, and i am IN LOVE with the CF trim, didn't even know that was available. If you are up to it, some more pics of that would be appreciated. :D

Congrats!  It was worth the wait, wasn't it?

The guy I deal with knows me so he had it set on 'Sport' at delivery.  Why wait for break-in?  I leave it there all the time.  Love the ride and handling.

You're gonna love the adaptive cruise's stop-and-go function when you get stuck in heavy traffic.  That is, once you get over the trust issue. It will stop. ;)  It helps take the edge off a little.

The CF trim only comes with the Driver's Sport Package, Devin.

Thanks all! It was definitely worth the wait!

As to waiting to hit Sport until after break in, I want to get my body completely used to puttering around. So the first time when I switch to Sport mode and floor it it'll be quite the sensory contrast!

I would, but can't figure out why my photos are posting sideways.  I took the photos with my iPhone vertically.  Thoughts?

Try taking the photos horizontally with your phone. Otherwise, you need to rotate the images in a photo management program prior to uploading them.

Anyways congrats on your new MKZ Airflow! You pretty much got what I almost had ordered, until I learned about Black Label.

Don't worry about feeling like Sport mode will lose its charm if you use it a lot...even in stock form, its got guts and enough oomph unlike other Ecoboost engines I've driven in stock form.

I get the same effect when my wife sends pics from her iPhone.  Sometimes, iOS and PC don't play together nicely.

The combination of the carbon fiber trim, aluminum speaker grilles, and the touring white accents on the seats makes for an absolutely stunning interior environment!

It does.  I normally don't like black interiors but this one is really attractive.  The white inserts break it up nicely.

It not only looks good, the seats are different from the non-Sport and once you get used to the aggressive bolstering, they're very supportive.  Not for everyone, though.  If you're, ahem... somewhat broad of beam, it may not work for you.

Thanks all!

A few points I find clever after driving about 300 miles:

1) When climate fan is blowing on high and you receive a phone call, the car automatically lowers the fan speed so you can hear the person on the other end.

2) When initiating a massage, the seat bottom and lower back area both turn on without having to specify an intensity. I have quickly grown to love the massage feature and do notice a feeling of relaxation after exiting the vehicle. It is not a gimmick.

3) When using adaptive cruise, if you press and hold the speed change button it moves in 5 mph jumps instead of 1 mph at a time. This makes it very easy to change the set speed quickly.

This car is true luxury.

Moved past 1,000 miles a couple weeks back. Finally hit Sport and finally pushed full throttle. Wow this car moves. It cracks me up a little because it spins the front tires under certain conditions at higher rpms than what I would expect. I do have the all seasons so not as much stick as the summer tires, but it's still impressive. This car makes some power. Very pleased! The 6 speed has been developed quite well for its vintage too.

Next step, just ordered the Livernois tuner. Will report back...

So you're going to join in being a tuned 3.0T MKZ...hope you're prepared. It will be extremely intoxicating given how comfortable yet powerful the MKZ will become!

You will definitely spin those tires if tuning and going with All Seasons. Yet if you go summers, you'll want to run a much higher PSI because of how good the Torque Vectoring AWD system is.

I can't wait! I wish we could fit wider tires than 245. Is there any option with the 19" wheels? Anyone running 275/35 on 19s? Edited by Airflow

Pretty sure that size of tire would fit on fine. I presume you seek the wider width to stay with an All Season type of tire?

Little wheel spin (not hop) is good to have when trying to do launches. AWD and a high quality summer tire can achieve too much traction. I have to run around 45 PSI cold minimum on my Pilot Super Sports to get the wheels to break quickly, yet hook quickly on the stock wheels and 245/40/R19 size. 38 (placard PSI) leads to the Super Sports sagging a little and bogs down launches. The stock PSI is aimed at All Season and comfort of driving over performance play. I run the stock 38 PSI when its time for winter tires, as the Blizzak LM001's seem to do great then. The Driver's Package AWD system sticks hard with quality tread tires that matches the weather and season.

Tires though, man that is one thing you could spend a ton on trying to figure out the best tread types, sizes, and PSI levels to optimize things. Everyone is going to have a different approach on that matter.
