anyone else having these issues with their 2014?

Recommended Posts

I have a 2014 MKZ Hybrid that i started out really loving.  But with 34,000 miles and all these issues it i'm beginning to be less and less enchanted with my Lincoln experience.

1) Power Trunk Lid issue -  "Something" broke that wouldnt allow the deck lid to open more than 12".  This required the dealer to replace both trunk hinges which required the removal of headliner, rear seat/package tray.  headliner rattled after repair, dealer dropped headliner and replaced all the clips.  Better but still hear rattles when radio is off.  every now and then the trunk wont close, it dings and reopens (and there is NOTHING in the trunk).... and ... sometimes trunk will not open from the key fob or button by the license plate, i have to lock and unlock the car to get it to open.  unable to reproduce all the time dealer shrugs shoulders.  Sometimes the doors don't unlock when i touch the door handle, sometimes they do.... frustrating.  dealer had car about a month.

2) oil leak - valve cover i was told was plastic and had a crack.  new one ordered and replaced.

3) wheel bearing type noise -  was told noise was coming from inside transmission.  dealer removed and disassembled trans, said Lincoln was shipping new trans as a replacement.  noise gone, but then the car had a bad vibration after the trans was replaced. Car at dealer 3 weeks.

4)vibration at 65 - 70 mph - after multiple rides with shop troubleshooter, it was determined that while the trans was out a motor/trans mount became deformed.  replaced mount, vibration gone. but this took over a week to diagnose and repair.

4) AC lost its mind - when car was first started, the AC seemed to only know 2 modes.  MAX LO /RECIRC and AUTO.  The AC Compressor light wouldn't go off.   Actually i couldnt turn the Air Conditioner itself off using the power button, nor could i make it go to defrost.  I took 7 videos of this madness.  touch capacitors would click but no light and no corresponding action, it just went between the MAX LO RECIRC and AUTO mode.  no matter what buttons i pushed,  it kept switching between these 2 modes.  After i used the large touch screen I  got it to work right.  dealer reflashed body module.  They say this should also fix the trunk and door handle issue.... we'll see.  Car at dealer a week.

5) after washing the car and wiping out the door jams and doors, i now see the paint pealing off the jam side of the door, and there is rust underneath. it looks like there's all kinds of trash under the paint on the drivers side doors where paint is lifting. (not on the passenger side ones) This was the last straw i had with this car and have contacted LINCOLN Corporate.  I'm taking it to the dealer for them to inspect tomorrow.

My issue isn't with the selling dealer, but this car not worthy of the star that's on the hood.  I don't know what else to do, as the car is only now worth about pay off.  I like the way the car drives and handles, looks and the amenities, fuel mileage is pretty good, infact its better than most post on this forum,  but i have to say the quality of the car is pitiful.

I get optimistic after each repair, but my overall satisfaction with the car itself has dropped, I'm beginning to wonder what to expect next?   i did purchase the extended warranty, and i do try to keep a car 8-10 years, but i have to say, i don't think ill keep this one that long.

The trunk on my 2014 has issues also. It won't close with the key fob button. I have a 2014 Ford Edge as well that has a trunk problem similar to yours though. This system is pretty terrible. I had the dealer check out the Ford, they replaced the struts. That didn't fix it. A module reflash fixed it for about 3 weeks. I need to take it back. I haven't had the Linc looked at yet, I have things to do besides fixing trunks. They suck.

i opened a case with Lincoln Corporate on the corrosion issue and made my other issues known.... and that i was disappointed in the car.  I said i used to brag on it, but not so much any more.  Apparently the issue is where they bond the aluminum to steel and if the area has trash in it, it starts to corrode.  lets see if Lincoln fixes it under warranty.  The body shop guy said they should, but the lady at Lincoln wasn't that forthcoming until they saw the pictures.  I should know by Wedneday if Lincoln is gonna cover this corrosion issue.

I have had a 14 MKZ 3.7 for aprox. 5 months and I am starting to feel the same about mine. At first I thought it was nicer than the MB I had prior but now I think either one is built to last, trans seems very clunky driving it in town. I had some reservation because of it being made in Hermasillo Mex but my father (86) always wanted a Town Car, more than likely the last car he will ride in and thats a shame, should have bought a 370Z and listened to him complain about not having any room for his walker or groceries, now I feel like im stuck with a "good looking" POS.

I purchased a 2014 MKZh coming off a 2 year lease (as a Certified Pre Owned vehicle) in August 2016.  I've had the car for 18 months now and run up 18,000 miles with an average fuel economy of 39.3 MPG.  I've had zero issues with this vehicle and LOVE all the amenities including adaptive cruise control.  (Also -  just checked my truck lid and found none of the issues others have noted on this website.)

I've had my 2014 3.7 for about three months now, and have several loves and hates - love the keyless entry, remote start (Chicago weather), steering wheel paddles for downshifting to pass, etc., driving comfort, fairly quick, looks great clean (Black car).

Hates - proximity sensors occasionally go off seemingly at random, right side mirror has a mind of it's own, turn signal way too loud, 14 mpg in town, can't keep heated steering wheel / seats "always on", I kind of miss the shifter.

But after 3 months I do not miss my old A6 at all. The MKZ is a nice car but black on black - have to wash/clean it almost every day! (Delta Sonic car wash is around the corner)

Not having the shifter was surprisingly easy to get used to for me. My Buick LaCrosse that I turned in had a short center console to rest your arm on, it was incredibly annoying. The MKZ offers me a full armrest now, lol. I was used to always keeping my hand on the shifter. I open the accessory door in-front of the cup holder, and dip my fingers in there.

I do not have the 3.7, I have the EcoBoost. I leave it in D, and comfort suspension setting. I bought the car for fuel mileage, so I try to stay out of S-mode (it is fun though).

The only quirks I dislike so far, I have taken care of with ForScan: lack of TPMS gauge, and digital speedometer. I've re-programmed a few other things like the accessory port time-out, etc.

Did you get the digital speedo to show mph?  I read it only does kph...

The car is at the dealer for CPO work. The data string from the Ford Fusion side is def KPH, despite it saying MPH.

I have two different data strings to try when I get the car back. I also finished the navigation hack, and will wait to see if it works (I was waiting on a A8 nav card).

looking at the exaust manifold, plug wires, a good example of rather cheap materials on the MKZ and is not something you expect to see on cars costing as much the MKZ does, I am in the process of replacing mine, I cut the OE exaust off with a drimmel, the OE is garbage in my opinion, probably worst I have ever seen.

I did those hacks also, and they didn't work.  None of them actually show up.  I'm assuming you have confirmed that your hacks actually worked?

A few of the changes I made actually did work - like the mirror drop in reverse, and changing the "accent light" behavior.  But I supposedly added the TPMS display, and the active AWD display, changed the heated steering wheel temp, and added right cluster screen functionality, and none of those actually worked.

The digital speedo shows in Kph, so I turned that back off. But, the TPMS works. I have full navigation working (which I love), and did a few other mods.

Could you perhaps explain exactly what you did to make the TPMS work?  I used the spreadsheet posted in the Fusion ForScan forum.  Also, WHERE exactly does this display show up?  Right or left screen?  And do you have to find it in the menu or what?  I went through all the menus on both screens and can't find it.

If I'm not mistaken the TPMS will only work for the 2015 and up.

3.7L AWD.  I will look again but i'm positive it's not there.

It gets even better - I don't have a "vehicle info" menu option. I wonder if that's the problem...perhaps I have to somehow enable that menu section in ForSCAN.

Well I definitely have the TPMS system.  I receive alerts on the dash cluster when a tire is low on air.  So are you saying that the display can only be enabled by ForSCAN on 2015 and up?  The senseless-ness of that would be astounding.  But knowing Ford, I wouldn't rule it out.

Yes, the tire pressure symbol will notify you of a low tire pressure but it will not display all four tires in the dash.
