Didn't get the car I thought I wanted...

Have been eyeballing a Select V6 FWD with the only options being moonroof, 19" rims, and Revel.

Last week I spent some time at my local dealer, drove the V6 and 4 cyl back to back, and tested the Revel vs. the base stereo.

The Revel sounded good.  But the pounding and rattling in the driver's side door panel annoyed me to no end.  No go on the Revel.

I'm coming out of a 2014 Fusion with the 1.5 turbo engine, so the 2.0 in the MKZ felt strong enough for me.

So I selected a more basic car, a Blue/cappuccino 2.0 FWD Select with moonroof, base rims, Select Plus, and the climate package.  I think I'll enjoy the features of these two packages a lot.  I was thinking I'd find Apple carplay sufficient in lieu of navigation but I find I like the Sync 3 interface better, so for the time being I've shut off carplay.  I think I can still use Siri to reply to texts by voice, and with carplay shut off the Pandora app on Sync appears.  I posted a question on the Nav forum asking which nav (Sync vs. Apple) is better for monitoring and circumnavigating traffic.

Very nice! I was dedicated to using Waze navigation (same as Google maps) prior to getting my MKZ, but made the switch to the built-in Nav and haven't regretted it. I checked the traffic avoidance against Waze a few times and both were telling me to go the same way.

I turned off Android Auto as well, there's nothing there I need and yes the texting functions still work. My phone recognizes the car through smart device connect.

Nice car! I am new to the 2L ecoboost as well, and am finding it to be quite the zippy little four banger. The stock stereo can use a little EQ boost in the high end and maybe a tad in the bass. Otherwise, its a very capable stereo.

I'm experiencing the rattling in my 2017 MKZ.  What a disappointment.

Don't be...just take it back to the dealer. I have the 20-Speaker Revel Ultima Audio system. I've experienced rattling twice. A quick inspection determined that it wasn't a blown speaker, there's just a LOT of stuff in the door panel. And with that many speakers, producing that much wattage, it's not uncommon. But they took care of it quickly, on both occasions. If you can pinpoint where the rattling is coming from, that also helps.

Aside from the speakers/door panels. I sometimes notice rattling that is "my fault." Sometimes, placing things in the storage cubbies built into the doors can cause rattling. Even the built-in sunglasses holder sometimes causes a rattle--especially if your glasses are metal vs. plastic. I'm thinking about putting some additional felt lining up in the glasses holder to absorb some of the noise. But I don't think that's a manufacturing defect--it's just the nature of sound.

Congratulations...that blue is striking.  We bought a similarly equipped 2017 2.0 AWD last month but without the Climate Package.  Oh well..."You can't always git wha'chu woant." - The Roling Stones.  We're very happy with the car.  We replaced a 2009 Infiniti G37x sedan.

We test drove all three (3) models:  3.0 AWD, 2.0 AWD, Hybrid.  The 400 hp was 3.0 was, as my teenage son would say, "sick."  But, the 2.0 was certainly no slacker at all in comparison.

QUESTION:  We have heard a rhythmic knocking noise that seems to occur after the car has been idling for several minutes - e.g., 10+ minutes.  I'm 95% sure that it's coming from underneath the car.  It seems to be loudest at the floor just behind the front seats.  It MAY even be centered more toward the driver's side of the car.

Has anyone else heard the same kinda thing?  Any ideas?

The sales guys heard it as well.  We took it back to have Service check-out the issue and they came-up really small of course, saying they didn't hear anything.  I don't know about anyone here, but I've NEVER met a Dealer's Service Department that I've liked.

I’m at about 10,000 miles and really loving the car. It is really the smooth quiet car I wanted. Don’t regret not getting the 6 cylinder especially since there is no whininess in the 2.0.

The XM traffic enabled GPS is incredible though the nav interface can be clumsy. It does an awesome job with traffic rerouting and doesn’t call attention to itself it just picks the best route.

Sync 3 version 3.0 is still buggy but I deal with it.

Just wanted to add that I have the 19 speaker Revel system and have never experienced any rattling from the doors or console (have owned this car for 4 months now and am an avid listener of a variety of music genres). There are some songs that are a little heavy on the bass that make the outside mirrors bounce, but a simple adjustment downwards of the volume control fixes that quickly.
