Hardwire for Radar Detector

Recommended Posts

Does anyone know of a good place to tap into accessory power to hard wire a radar detector?  I tapped a terminal in the fuse box but the power stays on even after a shut the car off so I don't want to drain the battery.

There are a number of circuits in the 2013+ cars' bcm that you would think are switched but turn out to be "hot" all the time.

I have my dashcam connected to fuse#36,using a Add-a-Circuit. That circuit is switched.

Fuse #36 is indeed a winner (mine is a 2018).  Switched power, perfect for my radar detector.  Fuse tap easy to connect (especially with the awkardly placed fuse box).  Interesting how the fuses you think would be switched power are actually constant on?

Yes, that was my impression as well.  I was about to give up when I tried #36 as a last resort.  These cars are weird, electrically.

I need help I got a Cobra 380 i radar detector.  I tried tapping into a not used fuse location like #4 but it doesn’t power in the detector. I also can’t find a a good ground.

See my post above yours.  I've been using #36 to power my dash cams in my last 3 MKZs.  The ground is to some random bolt under the IP.  Touch your ground wire to several places until you find one that works and that you can reach.
