Dannyh
I have a 2008 Lincoln MKZ with the standard factory radio. I went to a junkyard and found a cool factory lincoln radio which was touch screen and carried a navigation system. After taking out my base model radio and installing the new cooled looking radio I noticed that most of the wires plugged right in! The radio works great... other than the fact that I have no control of the volume. After going back to the parts yard I noticed the other vehicle having one extra plug that my car did not possess. This plug consists of two solid gray wires, one solid purple wire, and a yellow wire with a purple line... could this 4 wire plug be the issue of no volume control? Everything else seems to work great. Not a knob or command issue as the volume does appear to be giving command on the screen. The audible sounds remains at a constant high volume. Any ideas?! Anybody have some sort of wiring diagram I could follow to possibly figure out where this extra plug is supposed to go?! Thanks, Dan Edited March 18, 2017 by Dannyh
drolds1
Post moved to appropriate section by moderator. I don't have a wiring diagram but was the donor car the same MY as yours? These things change from MY to MY. Also note that nothing on these cars is plug-and-play. A car with nav/touch screen radio will have a different wiring harness from a car with a standard setup. 4N1M4L
I'm guessing the amplifier controls gain? If you have a meter, hook up to those wires and see what you get. If it changes with volume, then you have your culprit.
Dannyh
Thank you 4N1M4L, I am going to test it out and get back right away! The Donor car carried an amplifier but my car with the stock sync radio has no amplifier in the trunk. I believe with a wiring diagram I'll be able to conclude which wires go where and how the radio is controlled.
4N1M4L
Do you know what year the donor car was? i looked at my drawings for '10 and couldn't find a purple and yellow purple pair (maybe the donor wires were faded)
Dannyh
The new navigation radio came out of a 2007 MKZ (with amp) and I am trying to upgrade my 2008 MKZ (no amp in trunk). The Donor car had the extra yellow/purple plug.
4N1M4L
doctor olds and i both use alldatadiy for drawings. its relatively cheap, and has the drawings your looking for. or you could get a short term subscription to motorcraftservice. if you use motorcraftservice i recommend saving every single drawing you could possibly need since its for 72hours Looks like 72 hours on motorcraftservice is $19, and 1 year on alldatadiy is $27. alldatadiy might not have all the stuff that motorcraftservice has but it should have what you need Edited March 20, 2017 by 4N1M4L drolds1
Dannyh
Could it be that I purchased a bad radio?
4N1M4L
I'd very much doubt it. I'm still leaning towards the stock amplifier controlling gain. Have you looked up the drawings? have you tested the wires with a meter?
