Lane Keeping System dead

Recommended Posts

I recently purchased a 2014 MKZ with the technology package and around 15,500 miles on the clock. For the first couple weeks the lane keeping system worked fine. The parallel lines showed on the speedometer gauge along with the collision avoidance image. I'd sometime purposely drift to edge line just for S&G and it worked. Now, the system appears to have crapped out. No parallel lines, no aid, no alert. The collision avoidance image does show up. Any idea what gives?

Just curious but did you know the button to turn it on and off is on the Headlight/Turn Signal Flash shifter? If you bought the car with it active, and never knew how it turns on or off that may be it.

If by pressing the button, and nothing is happening, then it may need a module reset or inspection for any connection fouling. Seems strange it would cut out just like that, and the mileage is still young. At least you can take it in for a warranty claim fix.

Same here and in fact I wish they had it in a setup screen rather then that end button on the turn signal lever so it would not so be easy to hit accidentally.

Agreed.  That would make much more sense since most every other setting is done that way.

Oh, for the love of Mike. Lincoln is taking us back to the 1977 Fairmont when the turn signal stalk was pushed in to blow the horn. That's even worse than moving the parking brake button from the console to the bottom of the dash fascia.

Thanks!

I like that it's so easy to turn it on and off, since I run into situations where I don't want to argue with it to stay where I need to be on the road.

Stretches of construction where it's necessary to drive a couple feet left of the white line, snow covered roads where traffic is "making it's own lanes" but every now and then the lane markings become visible, and the occasional road that is in such bad shape that driving left of the lane marking is necessary to avoid all the potholes near the curb are all situations where I like being able to quickly turn it off with the flick of a finger.

I never thought how it would act on snow covered roads.

Being originally from NY you would think I would ...  :)

Then again I haven't been back to NY during a snow with this car....

If the camera can't see the lines, obviously the system can't work.  There are other conditions besides snow when this happens such as when the lane markers are almost completely worn away.  However, when this happens, the system just goes into a standby mode. It doesn't try to correct.
