Tuning for the Lincoln 3.0 twin turbo

Recommended Posts

Glad to hear that!    Zalvern, have you actually had your car in Livenois' shop or are they creating a tune based on another Z that they had on their dyno?  Here is a quick little conversation that I had with them on another forum:

And don't forget to develop a tune for the 3.0 twin turbo Lincolns! Gotta have it by Spring!
In the works!!!

I actually replied asking if they got a shop car to use or something. Not sure if they mean wanting mine in person, or I'll buy a tune and start trying out as a customer.

I still want to get a dyno run in at some point though.

When you said strategy code above, is that something you download with Livernois' tuner?

Yes or can use FORScan/Ford IDS to pull code parameters. I just used my Fusion's Livernois tuner to pull the codes though, as it gets directly to what Livernois will want. It's safe to connect to the port of any vehicle for basic code pulls, as its not like I was uploading a tune file with it.

Got it thanks. My only tuning experience was with canned tunes from DiabloSport for a Grand Cherokee SRT8 I had once. I like how they are tailoring the tune to your car this way. Effective and although there is always some risk with any modification, you can trust this will be safe.

Yes, I have my tune and everything but won't get to play with it till Friday (out of town).

Very interesting to see the engine got more horsepower than it did torque. But what I'm more excited is to enjoy MUCH LESS torque management and shifting hesitation!

I was also surprised at the torque. The stock torque at the wheels seemed unbelievably strong. The gain seemed low. That makes me wonder about accuracy. I agree that the transmission improvements and reduction in torque management will transform these cars.

Zalvern, are you able to use the same MyCal tuner that you had for the Fusion or did you have to get a different one?

Don't have to buy another device if you plan to trade vehicles completely. Livernois told me their device can change to a different vehicle up to 5 times. But I did buy a separate tuning device as I'll still be keeping my Fusion on the side.

I have a MyCalibrator Tuner anyone know how much to have this thing configured for the new tune for the MKZ?

You have to contact Livernois and inquire about it. I'm not sure if they need you to mail in the device, or if the tuner software can re-code the entire unit. They will need your vehicle's strategy code and usual basics.

Friday can't hurry soon enough...then its one final 2 hour drive on the ultra conservative stock tune! Finally one badass sleeper Black Label MKZ will hit the streets, and this is only the start! I still will get a personal dyno tune which will be easier now since they had a ground working car.

I can't wait to hear your impressions.  Dialing back that torque management will make a huge difference.

You have no idea how excited I am to release the restraints! I thought my Fusion was bad, but man the MKZ is worse in ridiculous torque management despite being stronger, so that says a lot! Livernois said they did that dyno graph pull in locked 4th gear. So if they did 5th, which is the 1:1...it has more on the table. Just food for thought there since some may think those dyno numbers are low.

I'm extremely certain mine is going to break pass 400+ awhp...with my "enhancements" I've done, hehehe. Cause the stock tune hates all the extra power its trying to leak out right now, and this tune will be all I need for one sweet Hot Rod Lincoln!

The perfect gift to enjoy on Friday, which happens to be my birthday as well.  :yahoo:

Upon getting home, I did not hesitate to upload the tune. I did a complete PCM adaptive learning reset which still requires FORScan (The Livernois Tuner doesn't do a full reset). Also got a full tank of gas as the car is most happy with that.

So I am at the stages where the shifts and everything are rough. It even slams into some gears but while it shifts hard, the power is not interrupted. There is a CRAP LOAD of Torque which makes me believe that is why Livernois is taking it very carefully...but so. much. POWER. The shifts are rough but there is no hesitation is unleashing power. I wish I could hit a drag strip with this right now for safe testing!

Drive gear is more powerful yet it still is casual to drive daily with. The transmission shifts should iron out and be smooth in Drive, so I will provide future feedback as the car adapts.

Now Sport gear? Oh man...it feels like this:

More feedback to come! Just in the baby testing stages.
