Ceramic Coating

MKZHybrid

Recommended Posts

I applied a ceramic coating, cQuartz, to my 2014 MKZ. I'm absolutely shocked at the shine and hydrophobic properties of this type of coating. I would recommend as long as you study it and do all the correct paint prep. My car is the Tuxedo Black Metallic and it really brings out the metal flakes, though the pictures don't really pic that up.

Those reflections are epic! I'll definitely show my wife - she refuses to consider a black car, assuming they are hard to keep clean.

The chrome accents of the MKZ really look stand out in black, and with nice shine - beautiful..

I know this is an old post but there isn't a whole lot of content on this forum for some reason.  I'm went to my local detailing shop and apparently they have a partnership with the dealership so now I'm in the middle of the whole dealership and shop working to get me into their products.  First strike against the shop was telling me that 3M was better than the Xpel ultimate and that he has to send the car to his guy to install the film (spoiler so does the dealership but the dealership actually co owns the shop that installs the 3M film).  First strike against the Dealer was that they can't wrap the film around the edges because it will cause it to peel up.  Second strike against the shop when I found out that they are trained and an authorized installer of Feynlab's Self Heal plus.  So I couldn't get a hold of the shop but the dealership had no problem getting them.  Shop says that the Self heal product isn't all that great and the self heal is nothing like you see in the videos and it's not worth the amount of work.  Opticoat is just a better product.  Dealership also wanted to push towards the opticoat (because it's a national warranty as if it's not a warranty provided by the manufacturer which feynlabs obviously has).  At this point I'm saying fuck both of these guys and driving to Kansas City and having my ceramic coating done down there.  It will suck to have to drive to KC every year just to have an inspection done but I'm not a fan of getting pushed into a direction just so everyone can get a cut of money.  That shit really pisses me off. I was going to just purchase the car and then set up an appointment with the shop afterwards but after our phone call last week I'm writing off the shop as well.

There's a local body shop in my area that's really been pushing ceramic coating lately, and I've been thinking of getting it done at some point. The car has a few blemishes and scars I'd need to get fixed first but I do like the idea of a nice, durable clear coat. It's something I'd definitely want to shop around and get second opinions about though, just like a paint job.
