Navigation Capabilities on All MyLincoln Touch Cars - But It Ships Disabled

I have a new 2014 MKZ that was shipped with the navigation disabled. Can I have this done? My salesman did not know about it. Found it in an article on the web.

"Navigation Capabilities on All MyFord Touch Cars - But It Ships Disabled
Ford explains: When you take delivery of a Ford with MyFord Touch or Lincoln with MyLincoln Touch, you get a vehicle with an 8-inch touchscreen and you also get the navigation application embedded in the car. But it's no good without the navigation SD card, for which you pay $795, and then Ford activates the car and enables navigation. That apparently means you can choose to have factory onboard navigation the day you take delivery. Or, later on, you can choose between factory navigation or a third-party portable GPS system that will be clunky, take up space on the windshield, and cost half what Ford charges."

Thanks

Welcome, and congrats on the new Z!

The article is correct.  Basically, you are paying $795.00 for an SD card that contains the proprietary maps for the Ford navigation system.  Without that SD card, the MLT navigation does not operate.  I'm sure your local Lincoln service department would be happy to relieve you of the cost.  :)

From what I have read yes but my dealer doesn't know about it so i'm looking for a dealer to do it.

I have a 2013 ford edge that has the same Sync system and the SD card will not work in the lincoln. I think it will be a very long wait for pirated SD cards, Ford has this under control.

I think it's just an App you or a dealer installs and then inserts the SD card. On my car no apps are installed on my wives 2013 Edge with the same system as my car it shows the an app is installed. Application name: "Navigation/16777215" Expiration Date "None". I don't get it the system is all set up to install apps but I can't find any apps for it. I know how to stream audio, but that's not having a app installed in MyLincoln Touch. I know I have seen pictures with the Pandora Icon on the radio screen. Have any of you seen that on your sync screen.

I am currently working to see what all needs to be performed to make this a possibility, inserting the A5 card simply is not enough. I do believe the cars without Nav, did ship with all essential hardware (global positioning module) due to observation, if you click on the INFORMATION quadrant on the MLT, then select the button that says WHERE AM I? There is no map, obviously, but it does give you your exact longitude and latitude, and also changes as you drive. Give me a week or so to play with this and see what I can come up with (which modules need reprogrammed, flashed, etc....) I will report back with news either way. I know many that have a vehicle that was purchased without it would like to be able to add it later, or at least know that it could be if desired.

Well, good luck.  Currently, this can only be done by Ford engineering.  This is directly from a Ford engineer who's a member of another forum that I belong to:

The navigation is tied to your VIN number, not to the hardware in your car.  You need the "magic secret unlocker" that is not available to the public.

Not being facetious at all, there really is an unlocking software that will allow any MFT vehicle to have navigation added, no hardware required (other than the SD card).  But as noted, it is not available to the public [or dealers].

And that seems to be what I am running into.. but I have not found who to contact to be able to do this...

One of the techs was talking about a time that a vehicle delivered without Navigation but was requested to be built with it, (this was 08-09 I believe) and he said they had to jump through alot of hoops and they were able to get it corrected but he doesnt recall who they even began to call with the issue...

I'll keep trying...
