newlinux
Thanks everyone. Having not seen the outside or interior color in person when I ordered I definitely took a chance. But I'm happy with the results. It was a long wait but I'm happy now... Next up, breaking the car in, changing the wheels, and tinting the windows... The biggest thing I have to remember is to lock the car when I get out! I've been driving cars that autolock for years. I didn't see any option in the manual where this car automatically locks when you get out of if after a certain period of time. That's actually a bigger adjustment for me than not having a shift knob.
Myron D. Brown
What...you don't like the wheels!?
newlinux
What...you don't like the wheels!? They are okay, but not really my style. I have never kept stock wheels on any car I have ever owned... I like to go with aftermarket wheels I pick. I'm probably gonna go with a gloss or matte black wheel, and possibly color match parts of the wheel with the color of the car. The bolt pattern this car has limits my selections a bit, however.
Airflow
It's amazing how much wheel design can influence the look of a vehicle. I find there is no other single styling piece that can change the way a vehicle looks as dramatically as wheels. I.e. plain to sporty, contemporary to vintage, etc. What wheel and tire sizes are you going with?

Not sure of the exact wheel yet, but it will be something like black wheel with simple spokes (maybe 5-8). Then I'll probably paint the inner lip the same color as the car. Gonna stick with the same size wheel (19") as I don't want to decrease the ride quality and I want to try and avoid buying new tires. Zalvern
Congrats on the new Z, newlinux! Welcome to club Vineyard. Edited October 13, 2021 by Zalvern
newlinux
Yeah, I was either gonna go black or with the Cabernet. My Caddy was black, so I decided to go with something different this time (and my minivan is black too). Took a bit of a chance, but it is nice to have something different. I'm sure I would have been happy with black however. I will take good care of the paint. I keep my cars pretty pristine and new looking throughout their life. Plus, I don't really put that many miles on my cars because I take the bus to work. I don't mind the lug nuts showing, depending on the wheel. Although, all aftermarket wheels I've previously bought had centercaps that covered the bolts. Its really just the overall look for me. I had found some wheels I wanted and was making specifications on how I wanted it painted and I ran into a snag. Of course I knew the cost of the exact paint to color match would be pricey, but it was even pricier than I thought. But the real problem was the application process for the paint, the guy I was working with on my wheels said he didn't think he was skilled enough to follow the paint application instructions, and that I'd probably need to take it to a collision/body shop to get the wheels painted. So I'll need to look for a simpler non metallic paint that is close in color and talk to a body shop for more research. I may end up just going with black aftermarket wheels. drolds1
newlinux, have you thought about having wheels powdercoated? newlinux
newlinux
Yes. But it is much more difficult to powderoat select parts of a wheel than to paint select parts.
newlinux
Well, I think I found a some wheels and a solution finally. Hopefully I'll have the wheels done and on the car in 2-4 weeks. I have to order the wheels so we'll see how fast I get them.
Blackbr
I've got 7 months left on my 2014 Fusion lease. I'm anxious to dump it to get an MKZ but there are no early return programs to my knowledge. I'm a little frustrated with the inventory search tools. Lincoln's isn't detailed enough and doesn't let me search more than 100 miles from a geography. Auto Trader is limited and not all dealers use it. Is there something else I should be using? Here's what I want, I'm in Wisconsin but will soon be moving to Ohio. My wife may green light purchasing my MKZ so no compromises on my wish list: Reserve 3.0 FWD Terra-cotta interior, white platinum would be my first choice on exterior, but I'd take black or magnetic. Optional 19" rims. Base reserve wheels are hideous. I'd actually prefer the 18" rims, can a Reserve be ordered with 18"? I like the look and smoother ride. Cheaper sunroof Climate package Multi contour seats Revel upgrade stereo I've found two cars that are pretty close to the above but they have the cappuccino interior, which isn't bad. I think I like terracotta better. I've lived in snowy climates all my life and have always done fine with FWD cars on all season tires. Still I would appreciate you experienced MKZ owners to critique my selections and recommend any changes you might make. I'm xplan eligible and hopeful for a great deal. When might 0% on 72 months for 2017's be available? BTW how is your experience with the multi contour seats? If they aren't worthwhile I might as well forgo them, get the cappuccino interior, and downgrade to the Select model. longislander
Blackbr, since you have months to go with your Fusion lease, why not factory order an MKZ to your specifications? You'd get it in about 3 months which kills 2 birds with 1 stone...you get the exact car you want and have fewer remaining lease payments to deal with. I ordered a Select trim about a month ago, specifically because I wanted the 18-inch wheels and tires. newlinux
The Multicountour seats are a personal preference. They are nice and I like them, but I'd probably have been fine without them. But now that I have them... I think all the wheels are hideous at worst to okay at best. Going aftermarket on my wheels soon, but the bolt pattern and 19" size (I don't want to go bigger or smaller) limit my selections. I've only had the car in the winter, but I think I will really enjoy the panoramic sunroof in the good weather, but that's another one that probably easy for many to live without. It's more important that you know how to drive in snow than whether or not you have AWD or FWD. I got the AWD to help lessen the torque steer and get more torque and power out of the engine. Bad weather handling was only a minor consideration for me. I love the heated steering while (I think from the climate package?) and use it pretty much everyday right now. My kids love the heated back seats :). Just my thoughts since you asked :). These are all personal preferences. Overall it just a good car and many of the options are just about what is worth it to you.
Blackbr
Appreciate the feedback! Financially do you lose out if you special order? Aren't there more incentives when buying from dealer stock? There is an Ohio dealer with two cars I want to check out. A reserve with the 2.0 fwd, has all the options I'd want plus the tech package. But it has the cap interior and the jade green outside which I'm not sure about. A select with the 3.0 fwd. has my desired options, but it has the 19" rims and the optional aluminum trim which I think cheapens the look of the interior. The matte wood with cap interior looks nice. The reserve is priced only 900$ higher than the select which sounds like a decent deal, if I could live with the 4 cylinder and the jade grey it might be worth considering. Need better than 3.9%/72 months though... Edited February 28, 2017 by Blackbr
newlinux
I ordered my MKZ. I was able to get the dealer to honor an incentive that was available when I ordered the car. They should also give you any incentives available when you take ownership of the car (I did and that was specified in my order contract). So there could be a bit of unknown when it comes to incentives when you order a car. If you aren't in a hurry, I think it a good idea to order the car exactly as you want it. Also, I bet you could negotiate with the dealer to change the 19" wheels to 18", or you could do that after the fact and sell your 19s. When I bought my previous car, I decided to change the wheels to aftermarket about a month after I bought the car and I sold my stock wheels back to the dealer (at a discount because they weren't new anymore). But had they had wheels I wanted when I bought the car, I probably would have just negotiated the change in... I could "live" with the 2.0, but the 3.0 makes a huge difference and I'm glad I have it everytime I drive. Be sure you are willing to make that tradeoff if the 3.0 is what you really want. longislander
My car has arrived at the dealership! I ordered it on Feb. 1st. I'm a CPA buried in tax season so I am not going to pick it up 'til after April 15th. I don't love the idea of it sitting around on the lot for a month but I will get no enjoyment from it at the moment. It's nearly 11 PM in NY and I'm typing this from work! Airflow
Congrats! That will be a rough wait, but worth it. Seven weeks is pretty quick. This is helpful for me to gauge when I will receive mine which is one week after my current lease ends. How long did it take you to get a VIN? Good luck with the rest of tax season. As another CPA, I know what you are dealing with. Edited March 23, 2017 by Airflow
drolds1
Sounds about right. I ordered mine at the very end of 12/16. It was built on 2/1 and arrived at the dealership on 2/24. Good luck to you CPAs for that final push. Our very good friend is a (self-employed) CPA and we don't get to see them between January and the end of April.
