2017 MKZ orders

Recommended Posts

Here are some pictures of the one I sat in this weekend. You really do have to see the interior for yourself. I was not sure I would like it but in person it is very nice. It's a really nice looking car. The seats are appreciably improved over the cars without the drivers package.

Definitely might want to rethink and research the ccd suspension. I would have a hard time believing the roads are worse than mine (auburn hills/lake Orion mi area). It's post apocalyptic for road conditions. No hard hits suspension is up to the task. I found having it in comfort mode when driving around the surface roads and switching to normal or sport for freeway driving is the way to go

I frequently travel in the Auburn Hills/Lake Orion area and there are a lot of crappy rough dirt roads in that area. You're on a nice paved road and it suddenly turns to dirt.

Zalvern is your MKZ all wheel drive? How many miles are on it? Is be interested to see how the times change as the motor is more broke in.

Passed 1600 miles to date and it's AWD with Black Label Driver's Package (Same as Driver's, just no painted grille, but the satin aluminum one instead).

It's test n' tune night at the drag strip so decided now should be good to see how it performs. Girlfriend will try to video record from the spectator seats, and I'll have a dash cam going.

I'll let the time numbers reveal themselves after I get some passes and feels how it likes to roll out. Since its only stock tuned, its best to leave it in Sport gear and automatically shift (paddles won't help much).

I still have a good gut feeling for this MKZ as an overall. As it'll go down being one of the best growing stages for Lincoln in the future. If perhaps the worry comes from those displeased with how the Fusion Sport is performing...well I already felt that car was going to have a few short comings, and sadly be grossly overrated in stock form. "You get what you pay for". Really "they" think a early 30k range vehicle is going to thump ones with performance packages? The fact the Fusion Sport had no performance packages gave a red flag to me. It's not being treated that seriously for performance, and more comes from throwing crank horsepower/torque around. But your typical car buyer won't think about such things.

The engine Horsepower is still lower than the torque, and under 300 whp which I find subpar for an AWD vehicle. Finally many for some reason thought the Fusion Sport weighed so much less or between 3600 - 3800...yeah, no it weighs right there with the MKZ (almost 4200 lbs w/0 driver), slightly over 2 tons. The Taurus SHO and MKS are not THAT much heavier either so with 40 more ponies they're still going to perform better on stock tables. The Fusion Sport is going to need mods and tuning to break it out of its stock watering, but even so, that means all these other vehicles will exceed it even on equal tuning tables.

As for tuning I'll wait till next year once I get back into Summer Tires again, and if no tune available from Livernois, I'll take mine in for a custom one as I will have upgraded my transmission and differential fluids by then.

I said from the beginning that more should have been done with the Fusion Sport or we would have a case of it not meeting expectations. However, the 2.7 produces excellent performance in the F150 as well as the Edge Sport and MKX. When some of the more reputable sources start providing road tests with acceleration numbers, we might find that it is better than initial reports indicate.

It's interesting to say to the least. The engines are definitely capable, but you have those who want the stock tune to feel spot on or decent too. Perhaps part of that higher price involves more engine optimizing and measuring over the Ford variant. If anything I would like it that I still would daily drive in stock tune and feel more than adequate and keep a performance tune as a "secret weapon" haha. Pressing Sport gear is so super noticeable in performance shifting behavior, leaving Drive gear great for cruising and easy going stuff.

Decided to get my MKZ professionally detailed. It's getting the full works: 5-Step Paint Correction, Suntek Frontal Clear Bra, Gtechniq Crystal Serum, and interior steam cleaning and conditioning. Love the car, and being Black Label it deserves even greater treatment.

I was told the car would be done Friday, so I still should be able to take it to the strip for a few runs. I may actually try a D gear and S gear run just to see how drastically different the times are between the two modes. Trying to WOT in D is way more sluggish than in S which is hyper sensitive. I just feel a lot of good OEM engine tuning and thought went behind the 3.0T, which is good to say. It's nice the Speedometer is spot on with GPS speed. It encourages you to utilize all gears for different situations. Only thing still used little is paddle shifters, except for downshift engine braking or cruising in Sport Gear.

So I had my car into the dealer to fix a couple of the minor issues noted at delivery (scratch on chrome trim piece on front door surround and a broken clip on the rear opera window trim piece). So per the ads. They drove the loaner to my work, picked up my car yadda yadda...

the loaner was a 2017 reserve 2.0t fwd and I can say:

1. What a HUGE difference between the 2.0 and 3.0 .. I mean I expected a reasonable difference but really. Not even in the same solar system

2. There is quite a noticeable difference in suspension feel between the standard and driver package suspension tunes. It's pretty close to a full setting. The "normal" mode felt more like comfort on my driver package car. The sport mode was close to normal ...

3. Seats - the loaner had the standard power seats. The difference in feel was massive. The standard seats felt "cushy". Where as the multi contour seats are firm and supportive.

In a nut shell the standard reserve was what I think they are describing as quiet luxury. It's comfy and..... Soft

The driver package feels almost rowdy in comparison. It's still a quiet, comfortable car just in a completely different way.

I am EXTREMELY happy I went with the driver package .. Much more suitable to my tastes and preferences

I totally understand why some like the driver's package if you are inclined toward a more sporty (firmer) ride.   I haven't driven an MKZ with it but I found the Reserve model with the 40 series tires to be plenty firm for me.   In fact, it was firmer and a bit more thumpy over bad pavement than I expected even in the comfort mode.   I do favor a softer quieter ride as opposed to a firm sporty ride, though.  It is great that they offer both the base suspension and the driver's package to suit varying tastes.  I would like to see more choice on tire/wheel combinations for the Reserve model, though.

I agree Brucelinc... The wheel selection is a bit lacking. The spoke wheels are circa 2001 Volvo looking. Hopefully they will add to the selections. The black label wheels are sharp. I suppose it's another reason why i went with the drivers package... The wheels are really nice too.

Did you get much of a discount?  I need to know what people are paying for these things.

Generally getting around invoice is going to be ideal, though in the case of a high priced MKZ, going with an A/Z/X Plan makes it easy and painless. Getting under invoice...that'll take some special connections with said dealership.

I just went with X-Plan (Pretty easy to find a sponsor if you do not know anyone who can get you a PIN). Mine was an employee who works at the Lima,OH Engine plant where the 3.0T is made. Though A/Z plan would be the best for those who can use it. I did negotiate other benefits like higher lease mileage and had a few extra services performed at no additional charge, to balance things out as if I got the car around dealer invoice listed flat.

Maybe you guys have seen this but this is a video of the Hermosillo plant from last year building MKZ's. Fun to watch. Fun to see where our "babies" come from  :)

That was cool to see as I haven't seen it. Always do find it neat to watch the accuracy and geometry of advanced robotics at work. It's impressive how they swing all those heavy parts and crate packages around with ease.

Just for fun I contacted my Lincoln dealer to price out a '17 MKZ lease, incorporating the 5 remaining payments on my '14 Cadillac CTS lease.

The numbers didn't work. It would cost me as much $ to turn in the Cadillac early as it would to keep it, so I might as well keep it! I'll just have to wait til February to order the Lincoln.

I'm not exactly suffering driving the CTS so it's all good anyway;-)

The good news first I have about 1300 miles on the car now and I love it. I think the Lincoln line "effortless power" sums it up perfectly.

Very comfortable (love the multi contour seats with massage) and quiet. Even got almost 27 mpg on the last trip.

My wife now wants to take my car now when we go some where which is OK by me.

Now the bad news. We took a trip last weekend and my car got caught outside in a thunderstorm that produced quarter size hail.

Needless to say the car got dented all over the hood, trunk, and passenger side.

One good thing I have the Panoramic glass roof it saved the roof from the same fate.

After going through the 7 stages of grief  (LOL) I took the car in to a friend of mine that owns a body shop.

Now I am familiar with paintless dent removal but only as a means to fix the occasional door ding, etc. I was surprised when he had his PDR guy

look at the car and tell me no problem, he could fix all the hail damage on the car.

There are a few pieces of chrome trim that will need to be replaced but all the rest can be repaired.

He said I was lucky in the fact that none of the dents were very deep which makes the easier to fix.

So just need to schedule to get it in now. And pay attention to the weather forecast more closely  ;)
