2017 MKZ orders

Recommended Posts

I posted this in the engine topic but figured since this is where folk would look if they are considering ordering a new MKZ.

a small piece of advice... if you can swing getting the summer tire package (and complementary set of winter tires if you live in northern climates) ESPECIALLY with the 3.0... DO IT.   I have had mine for about 2 weeks now and from a dead stop with aggressive power application, the car will still kick in the traction nanny (yes it makes the tires spin/slip even in sport mode and with driver package) so sticker tires for summer and winter would be highly recommended from my perspective.

I am considering a set of summers starting next spring and will evaluate the stock AS over this winter to see if i need both.

Yep, this car is a blast with Pilot Super Sports. With TC off, you can really get a solid good launch if the conditions are met. Tires are king when it comes to making that proper contact. Drivetrain, any launch controls, or even Torque Vectoring...they're all assists towards getting grip but Tires do the main work every time. All seasons to me, are cold season tires when sadly the summers lose their optimal ratings, yet do not need full blown Snow Winter tires.

The best first performance mod I learned is to get quality tires for the right road and season. Even before, a tune...in my opinion. Especially since a tune would really cause the wheels to chirp more. Tunes are awesome but I am taking this time in wait to optimize my MKZ prior.

Hence why I'm really finding this car...to have the potential of 4.5 second (possibly even lower!) range with stock tune, if it has the right goods to get it going. The 3.0T is super strong, and needs everything that supports it to be just as effective. Quality fuel, engine oil, and coolant especially, as so many parts in this engine are water cooled with coolant!

Once I get all my pre-tune improvements done, I'll see what this thing can do at a strip. With just tire, fuel, and coolant improvements so far...this car is starting to really shine.

 Zalvern, I lived in Ohio for five years and loved it but now I am in Texas.  It is 103 as I speak!  No rain very often.  I need to know what tires to get for the 3.0 (assuming I buy one).  What do you recommend.  I drive only back country roads but they are maintained, curvy and fun to drive.  I seldom get to the city.  What tire is out there for me for this car?

I chose Michelin Pilot Super Sports as they're a widely popular summer tire choice with excellent dry and wet handling. Only downside (and summer tires in general) is short tread life span compared to all seasons, ex. 30,000 miles.

Another good one I heard from a friend is the Continental DW summer tire. There are times it gets some nice rebates or sales, making it a cheaper choice over the Pilot Super Sports, yet still bring forth exceptional dry and wet handling.

I say do just a little reading on reviews, your idea budget, and check out for any active sales when it comes to tires.

Some people supposedly complain about summer tires being a bit more noisy, but if it's anything, the MKZ completely drowns out whatever tire noise there is anyways. I can't even tell a difference really even when in Sport gear.

There still aren't any AWD 3.0s near me. How loud are they? That's the engine I'm most interested in. I'm getting impatient and thinking of ordering before trying that engine (I've driven a 2.0). I currently drive a 2010 Cadillac CTS with the 3.6L 300 and something horses, I'm curious to compare. Was looking at that Vineyard interior with the Chroma Cabernet Red Exterior color.  I saw some pictures of the vineyard on this thread. Anybody get the Chroma Cabernet Red color?

It's honestly quiet, which is why Ford/Lincoln are commonly using their Active Noise Cancellation technology to enhance engine sounds into the cabin. Granted many automakers are turning to this now, as technology in general has taken over raw mechanics alone. But you do gain Quiet Luxury with Effortless Performance which, for a daily is great all around. You will hear the induction noises as RPMs climb keeping it pleasant, and more profound in Sport gear. I personally don't care if they're digitally enhanced or not, but some people feel jipped out of having the natural sound. If the induction sound is removed, it will get very very quiet due to all the noise dampening.

I went with Diamond Black Metallic over Chroma Cabernet Red, though it's a deep Maroon/Purple-like paint job. It's very attractive and different, though I still would say it's something you'd have to try and see in person which can be hard as Black Labels are still rare to find on the dealer lots (most get custom ordered it seems minus one the dealer buys). I was happy to have a Black Metallic paint which is also a bit exclusive (You have to get a Black Label or Driver's Package MKZ for Diamond Black Metallic), but not Chroma priced.

As for performance, it will smoke a NA engine in comparison along with having AWD and especially if you get Torque Vectoring through the Driver's Package (so worth it, to me). The 3.0 AWD Driver's Package MKZ is just shy under from going head to head with Cadillac's ATS-V (and definitely can be improved to outperform) which says a lot. Yet you're still getting a car focused on being pleasing towards the driver over being a tracking star and cutting back on comfort. I crossed shopped with the ATS-V and it definitely is an animal, but it seemed to lack things I wanted that the MKZ had while still being an animal (just somewhat slower due to more weight and less ponies...for now).

Only downside is coloring options are pretty limited if wanting the full performance package MKZ (3.0 + AWD + Driver's Package). Either get stuck with the Driver's Package interior or have to find a Black Label for a bit more interior options. This is one drawback Lincoln still has is too limited in production choice.

I drove a 2.0 before the dealer received one with the 3.0.  The 3.0 is definitely a quieter and much more refined sounding engine.  The performance difference is staggering, too.  If you  like the car with the 2.0, I think you will like it even more with the 3.0.

This thread has been really helpful. I ordered my 3.0T with drivers package last week. Not looking forward to the wait but knowing what to expect has been awesome. Thanks!

Did you get much of a discount?  I'm thinking of ordering too but wondering what to offer.  There are really no price guides out yet to help me.

Nice choice ... What color did you go with??? I got the midnight sapphire blue.

IMO there is actually quite a difference in the drive mode settings. Not sure if it's the same on non-driver package cars. The wife and I just finished a long weekend up to mackinaw and M22 and M31 along the lake shore. Great drive smooth easy performance. It really does do very well as a touring car.

As a bonus I averaged 25+ mpg for the trip. About 600miles total.

It was nice windows up, sunroof on vent Ac fan on low. Could carry on a conversation in a normal tone while still clicking up I-75 at 80 mph.

Schteve here's what I ordered...

Ingot Silver

3.0 AWD

Drivers pkg

Reserve pkg

Pano roof

Revel audio

Climate pkg.

Inflatable rear seatbelts

I test drove a sapphire blue 3.0 without the drivers package and was sold on the 3.0.

I was seriously considering the Continental... My brother is a manager at ford and just got back from test driving them in San Franciso and said that the continental was great but that the MKZ with the 3.0 was ten times sportier. Plus I could get a loaded MKZ with the 3.0 for the same price of a mid level continental with few options.

Pretty much the same. I just don't have the inflatable rear belts .... And my color choice is better

Thanks everyone for the info. Sounds like the 3.0 is great. I still feel I want to drive it first, but I may just go order. Have to think about the colors too... I like my current car, so I guess there is no rush... but I'm definitely ready for something new.

I just priced something with a probably similar msrp.  3.0 Reserve, awd, driver's pack, tech pack, climate pack, in Diamond Black and they wanted about $555 (with CT sales tax) on a zero cap cost reduction, 36 month, 10,500 mile a year lease.  Do you mind me asking what the terms are on yours?

Congrats on the order!

I am very interested in how the 3.0 WITHOUT Driver's Package feels. I love everything about the Driver's Package but based on past experience with a Buick Regal GS, I can't deal with the 19-inch wheels and 40-profile tires in my pothole-prone area.

I fully intend my next car (this coming April) to be a 2017 MKZ 3.0T AWD in Select trim

Did the standard chassis/suspension set-up feel up to the task of 400 horsepower?

Thanks so much and congrats again!

Mine stickered just under $55k. Zero down, With rebates and 15,000 miles and sales tax is under $575

That sounds like a great deal and tells me my guys have more room to come down. Thank you for sharing! That is very helpful information.

Long islander do some research on the CCD suspension. It's pretty slick and lessens chance for damage. I'm also going to get the Lincoln tire care plan. I bought it on my MKX for $350 and used it twice on the low profile 20" chrome wheels that it has. Think it has a $50 deductible

The 3.0 was amazing. It was a new car so it will on,y get better as it breaks in. But it snaps you back. The one I drove didn't have the drivers package. I got a chance to sit in one this weekend with the drivers package. It's awesome. The seats are fantastic. The carbon fiber trim is really sharp. The wheels are awesome. It's a beautiful car for the money.

Definitely might want to rethink and research the ccd suspension. I would have a hard time believing the roads are worse than mine (auburn hills/lake Orion mi area). It's post apocalyptic for road conditions. No hard hits suspension is up to the task. I found having it in comfort mode when driving around the surface roads and switching to normal or sport for freeway driving is the way to go

Well, if all goes to plan I'll be taking mine this coming Friday for some drag strip fun.

It'll be my first time, the car's first time, and see just what kind of numbers I get. I've only upgraded engine fluids and use an aFe Air Filter. Still stock tuned of course.

Oh and as the others said in regards to the Drive Modes. Easiest way I use it:

Comfort = Bad Roads

Normal = City Roads

Sport = Open Roads

Of course if I can help avoid it, I'll always steer around anything that looks uneven.

This will give you an idea on how much "bounce and dampening" suspension has (how much the front wheels drop when raised). Very apparent when you drive in Comfort mode.
