tgara
I detailed my MKZ this weekend. Pictures are posted in the Gallery. Briefly, the steps were: 1. Wash engine compartment 2. Wash car, including wheels and tires 3. Clay body and wheels 4. Sealant on body and wheels. 5. Clean/Detail interior, including leather seats and door and sunroof seals. 6. Clean/Dress Exterior Trim, Engine compartment, Tires. 7. Glass and exhaust tips. 8. Final wipedown. It took 2 days, but worth it! SteveB_TX
Looks great! I used to do extreme detailing to my cars, but as I get older, a quick wash and wipe down is good enough. :) Robert Iggy Cerami and R2D2
jimflutes
That's a good looking car and detail. I have the silver MKZh but your car looks a little darker is this a different color than silver ? I posted on another thread about a synthetic sealer called Optimum Gloss Coat ,it will last for two years without a refresh and makes the paint pop. All you do is wash the car and it always looks just waxed. This is my first hybrid and after 3 years I still look for reasons to drive it. It is always worth keeping the car looking great,I find great satisfaction when walking toward the car in a parking lot and seeing it , it really stands out among all other cars. tgara
The name of the color is Luxe Metalicious Metallic. Seriously, that was the first name Lincoln used, but changed it to Luxe Metallic. I guess Luxe Metalicious sounds too much like a stripper or porn star name. It's essentially gray, although I like to say it's more of a pewter tone. As for paint sealants lasting two years, I'll just say I don't believe it. Yes, some sealants will last longer than others, but I think it depends heavily on the conditions where the car is driven. And living in the Northeast, as you and I both do, I've never had one last two years, much less 1 year. If you have, then congratulations, but that has not been my experience. I will say that the synthetic sealants definitely last longer than conventional carnauba waxes, which is one reason why I switched years ago. jimflutes
Great,my next MKZ will be that color. I keep my car in a car port so that helps keep the sealant lasting longer , enjoy your ride now that the weather is getting nice!
shortspark
I take a different view. I love to rub on my car and detailing is a form of therapy for me as well as a source of pride. I do not want a product like a coating that will last two years. Not waxing or sealing my car for that long would drive me nuts! I like to fully detail my car every three or four months with a quality wax or sealant (my current favorite is Sonax Polymer Net Shield). I do this even if the protection is still there. In fact, some sealants I've used on friends' cars have lasted over six months. Duragloss makes sealant 111 that I know can go six months with good beading still present. If you enjoy experimenting with different products, a coating would be wasted since the reason for its existence is longevity - once there do not touch it for a year or more. No doubt coatings are great for their intended purpose but for those of us who actually like working on our cars often, they are a waste of money. They've dropped Luxe for 2017.
jimflutes
Well this is a good conversation on sealants and waxes. The thing about Optimum gloss coat is that they say you can still use other waxes like a carnauba or spray detail on top to bring up the shine while still having the long time protection. There is a lot of feedback from pro detailers on this product on line. But I agree that there is great satisfaction in taking care of our cars,in fact I have to do something to it a least every other week be it washing and spray/wax detail or interior cleaning. I am not sold on the 2017 front so my next Z will probably be a 2016 with that Luxe color.
Leroycheek
Detailing to that level sounds like something I am very interested in. What was the cost for this level of detail?
tgara
I did it myself. Most of the washing and cleaning supplies I had on hand already, so out of pocket costs were essentially zero.
