lbarzin Posted August 1, 2013 Share Posted August 1, 2013 Just bought a 2010 MKZ and am really happy with it - spent some time yesterday trying to get the factory code for the keypad so I can set a personal code, but since I am not the first owner and don't have the wallet card, I couldn't get started. Called my local Lincoln dealer and they said - "Sure - bring the car and $60 dollars in and we'll retrieve it for you". Not thrilled with that response I looked around the internet and found the answer in the Mercury Milan forum. Get an extendable inspection mirror from your local hardware store for a few bucks and extend it up under the dashboard just to the left of the steering wheel. Next to and slightly above the fuse box there are a bunch of modules but only one will have a 5-digit number on a white sticker. You need the mirror to read it, but with the mirror it took me less than 30 seconds. Also - the printed documentation for setting the personal codes leaves out one critical step. You to have the key in the ignition to set a personal code (I left the sunroof open during the process just in case I locked it by mistake). Once I did that the process went as advertised. MKZMAX Posted July 24, 2014 Share Posted July 24, 2014 The above procedure for finding the Keypad Factory Code worked perfectly for my 2011 MKZ. I can verify it works quick and easy. If you want to try it, be prepared to read the numerals in mirror image, while lying on your back on the drivers side floor mat, one tool in each hand, with feet out the door on the garage floor. Tools used: Inspection mirror with adjustable ball in socket joint and 8" handle. Small hand held LED flashlight. One tool for each hand. Use mirror to find the five digit black on white tag as indicated in the original post. You will see the digits mirror inverted. Don't forget to have a paper pad and pencil handy within reach while you're on your back on the floor mat. Then record the code on paper. Next get out and lock the car. Punch in the code on the front door keypad and click-click it works. If the car does not unlock, the probably the previous owner changed the code. Time to call the Lincoln service guys. Cheers Entering a personal code does not override the factory code. The factory code will always work. It cannot be "changed" by the owner. Remove the rubber covering in the cup holder, place first key in the backup slot. Press Start Stop and wait a few seconds. Press Start/Stop again and remove key. Insert the second key into the back slot then press start/stop. The factory code will be displayed in the information display in a few seconds... Page 69-70 of my manual. Brian V Posted April 17, 2015 Share Posted April 17, 2015 Did that when we bought a used 09 Fusion SEL- snapped pic with the iPhone and got the code. My 13 Fusion Hybrid had an identity crisis last week and wouldn't recognize either remote- and keypad was blank too, but remote start still worked. Cycled through the remote start/stop a few times and got the keypad to light up and got it unlocked. Reading through the owner's manual and found the way to bring up the door code (with keys in my case). Dealer had to erase and reprogram both remotes to get them to work. I have not had it into the dealer yet in order to get the factory set key pad code. I have tried the procedure in the owners manual for obtaining the code in the information display and not having any luck in getting the display. I have tried it countless times with every subtle difference I can think of. If anyone can clue me in on what I am doing wrong I would certainly appreciate it. The Dealer tells me it never works, but I have a hard time believing that about Lincoln. Thanks in advance to any one who can help. There was a barely visible sticker above a bundle of wires to the left (as looking up at it) of the steering column. I used a compact mirror of my wife's to view it. Programming a personal entry code and keypad association to memory feature To create your own personal entry code: 1. Enter the factory set code. 2. Within five seconds press the 1 • 2 on the keypad. 3. Enter your personal 5-digit code. Each number must be entered within five seconds of each other. 4. For memory recall feature, enter the sixth digit 1 • 2 to store driver 1 settings or 3 • 4 to store driver 2 settings. Note: Pressing 5 • 6, 7 • 8, or 9 • 0 keypad numbers as a sixth digit will not recall a driver memory setting. Note: The factory-set code cannot be associated with a memory setting. Locks and Security 5. The doors will lock then unlock to confirm that your personal entry code has been programmed to the module. Tips: • Do not set a code that uses five of the same number. • Do not use five numbers in sequential order. • The factory set code will work even if you have set your own personal code. Help! Hi Famman. Try reversing the retrieved code when you input it. So for example, if it displayed as 1-2-3-4-5 when you retrieved it, enter it as 5-4-3-2-1. However, when I try to enter it on the settings so that I can create a personal code, it will not accept. I'm going to try updating the software soon, maybe a factory reset of the MyTouch? Also, another weird thing - when trying to connect to a wi-fi network, it would only allow me to type the password using numbers. So strange! What is up with this little computer? Not sure why the factory code will not work through settings to set a personal code. It is the correct code if it worked for the keypad. Having seen similar situations in the past, the problem is often user error (sorry Famman). I can only recommend re-reading the Owners Manual instructions very carefully and trying it again. Perhaps even let someone else read and try it, hoping a fresh set of eyes may do something differently. If that does not work, hopefully another forum member will jump in with more advice. Two questions first. 1- Did you follow the Owners Manual instructions to remove all personal codes? 2- Did you purchase your 2013 new or used? If you purchased used (which is what I am guessing), the previous owner may have entered his own personal codes and you may have hit the limit (the limit is 5 personal codes on my 2018 MKZ). I've never actually entered my own personal codes (I memorize the factory ones), but once you have hit the personal code limit you have to erase the previous codes before you can enter enter a new one. Try following the Owners Manual instructions to erase your personal codes (if you didn't already), and then try to enter a new one again. If you were not given the Owners Manual when you purchased your MKZ, you can download the PDF version here: https://www.fleet.ford.com/partsandservice/owner-manuals/ It comes in very handy. The instructions from my Owners Manual are as follows: "Erasing a Personal Code 1. Enter the factory-set 5-digit code. 2. Press and release 1·2 on the keypad within five seconds. 3. Press and hold 1·2 for two seconds. You must do this within five seconds of completing Step 2. If you complete this successfully, you have erased all personal codes and only the factory-set 5-digit code works." Your model year procedure may or may not be the same, so check the Index under "Keyless entry". If this does not work, then try the factory reset again. However, it should not normally be necessary to do a factory reset every time you want to add a code. Let us know how you make out and good luck. tonyd2boys Posted October 16, 2020 Share Posted October 16, 2020 (edited) Does anyone know why the 2 fob method would not work? I bought a 2018 Lincoln MKZ that had only 1 fob. I bought a new fob and had it programmed.... works great. When I try the 2 fob method- nothing. Any suggestions? Not sure if this matters but when I look under settings it shows that I have 3 admin keys (the two I have and I guess a third that didn’t come with the car when I purchased it)!!
