SteveB_TX
I have the oddest problems crop up on my 2013 Z. The latest one is the horn/airbag cover is split on the top right of the cover near the center after only 2 months and 3000 miles! My local Ford dealer is ordering a replacement cover, but I have a feeling it will include the airbag assembly too. Hmmm... what's next!?!? :baby: Part 2: Dealership called. No covers/air bag assemblies are available anywhere in the USA! They had to order it direct from Ford. No ETA, so when it gets here it gets here. :) Just as long as it gets here this year. LOL Part 3: Talked to my parts guy. Ford is trying to locate a new supplier for the airbags. The one that made mine has been fired. Gee, I wonder why!? ;) Edited July 30, 2013 by SteveB_TX
ieatfishburritos
interesting, thanks for sharing. how did this turn out?
SteveB_TX
I am still waiting for the new airbag. I have been keeping in touch with Lincoln Care... they are about as useless as you-know-what. The head of the parts and service department at my dealership has stepped in to try and expedite the part. I really can't wrap my head around not being able to get a simple airbag! Ford hasn't stopped production of the MKZ due to an airbag shortage! I have even requested they pull one off the line and send it to my service department. I am sooooo tired of this bs. Over three months now and still no resolution to this problem!!!
John M Young
I have had my MKZ for a short time and learned I like the car a lot, but I don't like Lincoln. As far as SteveB's problem I think it's the way the Lincoln division of Ford is run not Ford Motor Company. My family has had Fords for years, and I just haven't seen things like your airbag problem. My next luxury car or near luxury car I think will be the Cadillac ELR. I will not keep a car I can't get good service on and answers to my questions. The Lincoln people really are clueless. I'm still trying to figure out just how useless the Lincoln Care folks are.
SteveB_TX
Update! Got a call from Lincoln care. My airbag has been shipped. Theoretically. I talked with my parts guy and he told me the factory in Hermosillo Mexico packed up an airbag off the line and is shipping it to the dealership. They said it would take 3 to 5 business days to get delivered. Soooo... I may have a new airbag installed by the end of the week! Theoretically. :) robertlane
robertlane
Since I've not seen anyone else with this, it's probably an odd supplier defect. At least, I hope so! Glad that they've located the part and are taking care of it. Do you have a photo of the bad one?
SteveB_TX
Let's see if this works... I had to put the picture in my album.
SteveB_TX
Update: Got a call from the service manager... IT'S HERE! My airbag is finally here! I take my Z in tomorrow morning to have it installed and get the DRLs enabled (hopefully). Now, I just hope the factory sent the correct color! With my luck, they probably sent a charcoal airbag for my Dune interior! Let's hope not. :) Robert Iggy Cerami
SteveB_TX
Final Update: It's installed! Finally! It only took 3 months, 10 days to get a new airbag. Wow! There is no acceptable excuse for the delay. Hear that Lincoln? None! Robert Iggy Cerami
