Drove a 2010 Today - WOW

My 02 Continental was having A/C problems. First time since I purchased it back in 02 that I've had any problems with it. 90k miles on it now. OK, my local garage could not fix it, so I took it to my local Lincoln Dealer. They found a few things wrong, and although it was going to cost me a lot to fix, (but cheaper than buying a newer car) I got it fixed. Went and picked it up today. Well, when they picked me up to drive me back to the dealer, 12 miles away, they picked me up in a BEAUTIFUL 2010 MKZ. I have to say, WOW, it drove great. Quiet. Much improved over my 2007 MKZ. Not only does the 2010 (and 2011's) look better than my 2007, but it is better in every respect.

When my wife and I were trying to decide what to do about the Continental, we looked at both the MKZ and the MKS, but at the time, my wife said that the MKZ was "too small" even though I showed her that it was not at all small. Because of that, we looked only at the MKS which is as massive (sp) as my SHO. Well when my wife saw the beautiful interior of todays MKZ and that it is not as small as she first thought,

We love our Continental but when we are ready to trade either the Continental or the MKZ, it may very well be one of the new MKZ's and not the MKS.

Now that the A/C in my Continental is fixed, we are not so hot to replace it, however I have been checking on available MKZ's, mostly used 2010's with the Sport Appearance Pkg.

While walking around my dealer's lot, I was checking to see what they had in both used and new MKZ's. Well, other than the used one that they used to pick me up, the only MKZ's they had were 2012 Hybrids. Loaded with Hybrids. Can't believe it, because two weeks ago, they only had two 2011 Hybrids. I think the factory in Mexice is loading up on Hybrids before they start to manufacture the regular MKZ's.

Does not really matter, as we normally don't use the Continental very much as we use our other cars much more. I was impressed with the 2010 MKZ though, much improved over the 2007 I have.

Just an FYI:

If the VIN number starts with a "1", it's final assembly location is within the USA.

If the VIN number starts with "2", it's made in Canada.

If the VIN number starts with "3", it's made in Mexico.

MKZ starts with a 3

Even though the a/c is fixed in the Continental, if the right deal comes up on a 2010 MKZ, we will trade it. Only problem (other than $$$$$$$) is that my wife wants a White on White with Navi and Moonroof. The one at my local dealer, with Sport (something) Pkg, although White, has the Gray Sport interior. Also has the 18 inch wheels, which I like very much, but it will be my wifes car, not mine. Found a White in the Tampa area, but decided to wait a while. The value of the Continental can't go much lower and the value of a 2010 will come down much faster than our 2002.

Will be driving up to my Penfield address in a week or so, and I've been checking the used stock of various Lincoln dealers in Central and Western NY, for a 2010, but there are even fewer up there than in Florida. If I find one that looks good, I will drive the Continental up there vice taking one of the other cars and trade, but we will probably wait until the spring or summer of 2012.

Going out to Roswell NM in December, but there are even fewer choices out there.

I never updated this thread, so;

Last December (or was it January) I found a used 2011 at the Honda Dealer in Ocala. Low milage, correct interior and everything my wife wanted including the Sync Navigation Screen, except the wrong color. Dark Bordeaux, not the white she wanted. We bought it anyway. Runs great, and best of all, my wife loves it. (Now she forgot all about the Continental <grin>)

This car is not normally driven very much, or very far, however we did take it to Columbia SC to visit our daughter and grandkids, and we got 28 mpg on our way there, and 30 mpg on our drive home. (Must have been going down hill with the wind at my back). Plenty enough power.

Andrew seen you log on once on the Lincoln forum but you never came back..what's up..?

But I've been away from here too ..Hope to see if activity has picked up here some..

I'm waiting to see when the 2013 hits the streets..lots of issues or mysteries about it's arrival..

We'll see how it pans out....some are calling it the 2014 model year now..
