Poor mileage on 2013 mkz

Recommended Posts

The mileage on our new 2013 MKZ is pathetic!  The first time we filled it up (just left the dealership) it showed we would get about 480 miles on a tank of gas.  The next time we filled it up it showed like 360.  After it got filled up yesterday it showed like 315 until empty.    I know they say wait 2000-3000 miles before checking but the figures normally don't change very much (1 to 2 miles per gallon).  They also say to vary the speeds which is being done.  Unless something to do with this EcoBoost engine really does get better after break in it will never come close to what is stated on the sticker.  The sticker on this car states 33 mpg on highway and 22 mpg city.  26 mpg is supposed to be a combination of both.  We have around 700 miles on our vehicle.  500 of which is highway miles and 200 worth is city. The city driving (we do) is not start and stop at every block either.   It is averaging 21.3 miles per gallon.  That figure is based on our trip meter with the last 500 miles of driving on it.  It got filled up yesterday and got reset on the other trip meter.  It is averaging 21 mpg after 44 miles most of which is once again highway.   IMO there is no way this vehicle will ever get the mileage advertised.   I really hope I am wrong!

I have approx 5000 miles on my 2013 MKZ. Have just completed round trip from Northern Va to Columbus, Ohio of approx 900 miles, including city driving, short trips and Interstate 70 driving. My average MPG was 28.1, whiich included mountains as well as fast paced driving. A previous trip from Radford, Va to Fairfax, Va (approx 450 miles) was 30.1 MPG. I'm hoping to do better when driving on flat highways without mountains.. I doubt if you will see the numbers you are seeking until you get more milage on your car.

I agree, the mileager does not live up to its hype!  I live in a rural area with flat roads and a lot of 45 - 55 mph driving.  My previous car was a 2007 BMW 328 rated at 29 mpg highway.  I averaged 29 mpg for all of my driving when I drove the BMW around my area.  So, I assumed that I would get the 34 mpg that Lincoln advertized for highway driving.  However, I only get 29 mpg for thes same type of driving that I did with the BMW.  I have over 10,000 miles on the car, so it is" broken in".

I have only had mine a shiort while but it is a hybrid and I am getting 46.2 MPG depending on what kind of driving I do. I was reather surprised because I figured it would be less but I talked to another guy who says he gets about that too.

I have just under 10000 miles on my 2014 mkz 2.0. I've drivin this to Fla. and the most mpg I got was 26. On combined driving I average anywhere from 15-17 mpg. I am not a hard driver and on the highway I usr the cruise control. The service dept. has no explaination but got lincoln to refund one payment. This is still not acceptable.

I'm a bit disappointed with the combined gas mileage as well.  I have 4,000 miles on the car.  The 2.0 eco is supposed to get 26.  I drive 55%/city / 45%hwy mix which is pretty much what EPA considers combined.  I typically get 23.5 mpg in the summer and 22.5 MPG in the winter.  By way of comparison, my 2007 fusion FWD with the 3.0 V6 was rated at 21 mpg combined.  I typically got the same gas mileage as I am out of the MKZ, 23.5 summer & 22.5 winter

If you were taking to me when you say you would expect a Hybrid to have better mileage.

That is because when I posted that message when I had a 2013 2.0 Eco. Lincoln traded that vehicle out for me as a result of a lemon law claim and I choose the 2014 Hybrid as the replacement vehicle. I had updated my profile when I got the 2014 Hybrid so that post looks weird.

So to clear this up

I got 25.5mph on a 2013 MKZ with the 2.0 Eco engine at 18,500 miles and now am average 38.8mpg on a 2014 MKZ Hybrid with over 2000 miles on the car.

Both readings are lifetime to date averages as I do not reset the calculators

Oops! Sorry about that. I kind of got hung up on R2D2's post. Confused the Hybrid and Ecoboost.

My wifes 13 gets 26 all day long.  She doesn't drive it like she stole it, and it has 32k miles on the clock.  I recently added the JMS BoostMax as well and the increased top end is nice (just running the red chip at this point, she don't want to buy premium gas

I bought a 2013 2.0T to replace my 2014 Fusion 2.5 after it got rear-ended by an idiot who was more concerned with his cell phone than driving. I was getting an honest 34-36 MPG on my 100 mile expressway trips. And that's running 5 - 10 over the posted. My 2013 2.0T hasn't seen 30 yet on the same trip. Both cars have / had around 35K on the clock. I think the only solutions are to grin and bear it or see if the 2.5L Fusion tranny is geared differently and try to drop it in.
