1steven Posted January 10, 2016 Share Posted January 10, 2016 My 2012 mkz had no issues topping off tank.but my new 2016's extremely touchy,even after the first "clickoff" of the gas pump,I have to force 2 plus gallons into tank,and still never completely reaching full.Any thoughts on this? John-Michael Dumais Posted March 1, 2016 Share Posted March 1, 2016 i just bought a '13 and noticed the same. full pressure auto-fill leaves the tank about 2 gallons shy of full. slowing it down allows me to fill up. 1steven Posted May 27, 2016 Author Share Posted May 27, 2016 Dealer finally after 4days back in shop figured out that problem was the gascap filler unit,which they at first said was "no problem a month ago. My "miles to empty" counter was at like 10 miles, and it only took like 11.5 gallons at the pump. That gave me 424 miles to empty and filled my fuel gauge. does the 2014 have a smaller tank or something? I can go look at what my manual says, but I'm curious to what you all have to say! Your Hybrid has a smaller tank and is listed as 13.5 gal (51.1 L), The Ecoboost 2.0 can have either a 16.5 or 17.5 tank depending if FWD or AWD respectively. Absolutely true and I agree..... Never a good idea to run the car to dry/empty. I typically fill up when I get down to just under a 1/4 tank.... about 10-11 gal is pumped to fill. I was able to once, by shaking the car and letting the fuel settle get enough in it to register OVER the full mark but in general I never let it get down to less than a quarter before i fill again. pjrocco Posted April 18, 2017 Share Posted April 18, 2017 This is a common problem with Ford's capless filler system. You either have dirt of grim stuck in the inlet or your vent tube is clogged. Hopefully it's not the latter as that requires the tank to be dropped.
