Sync v.3.8 Update with Siri Eyes Free

I installed the Sync 3.8 update in my 2015 Lincoln MKZ over the weekend. I downloaded the update files from the Lincoln Owner portal to a USB stick and ran the Sync update in the car. It went smoothly and took about 20 minutes. I had a bit of a tough time reporting back to Lincoln that the update was successful.... it took a couple of tries, but it finally went through and now shows on my Lincoln Owner page.

This update seems to install an entire new Sync system because it goes through several reboots during the update process.  After the update, I had to reset a number of settings (ambient lighting color, panel brightness, navigation preferences, etc.) and re-pair my phone. I also had to re-enable the feature that allows texts to be shown and read on the car's screen. I also had to re-load all the extra Sync backgrounds I had uploaded.  But after all that, the Siri function works great.  Just hold down the Voice button on the steering wheel for about 3 seconds and the Siri voice comes on.  From there, you can tell her to compose texts, send emails, add events or reminders to your calendar, change songs, check the weather, get you a beer (well, not that one but you get the idea)... :)

I have my iPhone 5S set so that Siri only gives voice feedback when connected to a hands-free device (such as my MKZ). Using Siri on the phone itself gives no voice feedback, which I prefer since it speeds things up.  You can access this on your iPhone settings via General --> Siri --> Voice Feedback, then choose "Hands Free Only". So, when I use the Eyes Free system in my car, I get the voice feedback through the car's speakers. I also have the Siri voice set to a British female because, well, she sounds sexy.... :)

Anyone else install this Sync update?

Any point doing the update if I use an android based phone? Is the update just siri stuff? Or did it speed up anything?

There were some additional upgrades, including faster and easier pairing, and a more effective auto-reconnect, which apply to all phones, not just the iPhone.  Easier destination entry for China was also included, although its likely most of the folks here won't be interested in that.

I'm sure additional "under the hood" improvements were made since the version went up a whole point (from 3.7.11 to 3.8).   The whole system seems snappier to me with the new update.  My recommendation is to install it, regardless of what phone you use.

when you hold the voice button down and siri come on how do you ask a question. do you still need your phone to talk and only get the voice through the car speakers.

It uses the mic in the car to pick up your voice.

I don’t mean to necro this thread right out of the gate on this forum, but this is literally the subject matter I need addressed. I recently purchased a 2015 MKZ and for the life of me can’t find the upgrade from 3.7. I even had recall work done at the dealership where they supposedly updated my Sync SW to the most recent version. (I wouldn’t put it past the tech to just do a master reset, as the service rep told him the system was slow in order for me to not have to pay for the Sync upgrade.) Either way, I still can’t access Siri from the steering wheel. The Lincoln website says my SW if current with the last upgrade taking place in late 2014.

Can someone confirm if this is truly the latest SW? The original poster has the same vehicle as me and seems to have the upgraded SW.

Is there a third party source for the loadable?

Does the Ford version also work on Lincoln vehicles?

Thanks in advance.

Have you tried to register at the lincoln owner site?

https://owner.lincoln.com/tools/account/your-vehicle.html

Once your information is there it will indicate if you need an update for your vehicle and if so, you should be able to download to an USB memory drive for installation in your car.

Yes I’m all registered on the site. I did a sync diagnostic and it pushed my vehicles stats to the website and app, so I know it’s connected. It still says ver 3.7 is the most current as of Aug 2014. I see conflicting information while researching. Some people say they are getting 3.8 from the Lincoln website. Others are up to 3.10 by using Ford SW builds. There seems to be way more info floating around on the Ford side than the Lincoln side.

Sorry for the weird quote/response double post. Working from my phone here.

No problem.... I know the feeling. I have no explanation but a thought is that maybe the 3.8 to 3.10 are in trial and not yet officially released for all. I am never too crazy to be the first guy..... let them work out the bugs and then I'd go for it.
