Lincoln Unveils New 2017 Lincoln MKZ

MKZ Guide

I think it will be black.  In the picture I posted the color of the car and the bumper are hard to distinguish. Yes I like the chrome strip.  Jim

I pray it is. Either black... or the same color as the rest of the body. I guess, technically, since what we saw is a pre-production model, small changes are still possible before mass production this summer.

If they keep the same basic shape for that back piece, we should be able to pop ours off and put the new one in its place... with that cool chrome strip.  That black part just snaps onto the rear bumper cover.  By the look of the picture of the white Z in Myrons post, we should be able to make the swap.  Hmmm?

P.S.  I just noticed they changed the shape and size of the chrome exhaust trim pieces too.  They are a bit smaller than the 13-16... and further away from the painted plastic part of the lower quarter panel.  Very interesting.  :)

Ooooooooh...I always wondered why that was there. I guess I've never really paid attention to the backup light. I wonder why Lincoln couldn't think of a different place to put it? In comparison to their other cars, it seems like a mistake...

Since I usually sit INSIDE the car when I drive it, I don't really notice that middle section.  As long as the brake lights work, I'm good.  :)

Hopefully they will change that before the 2017 goes into production.

Just thought I would add that these are expensive parts.  I think Lincoln will keep them a bit longer to help pay for their development.  If you ever need to replace the entire assembly, it will run you (or your insurance) around $2040.00!  :spend:

$2,040!? And we're still talking about this little black part of the bumper!?

No, that's for the full width tail lamp assembly.  Kinda pricey, eh!

You got me thinking though... how much is that "black" insert thingy?  To replace that "medium dark platinum" insert on 13-16 Z's, would cost: Extension (the blk thingy) - $128.00, Chrome Exhaust Inserts - $522.00 for the pair, and Reflectors - $72.00 for the pair.  Grand total = $722.00.  It probably would not be much different for the 2017, except for the addition of that wide chrome part.  Still, food for thought for us 13-16 owners.  :)

I went into my local Lincoln dealership this afternoon and...the sales representatives are pathetic. I knew more about the MKZ and the Black Label program than they did!! I had to tell him which Black Label theme we were looking at...while he was trying to look it up with his phone. And last year, I went to two different Lincoln dealerships to ask if they had any vehicles in their inventory with the Active Motion seats, so I could try them out. They had no clue what I was talking about. One dealer said "All our new models include the Active Noise Control feature." Another dealer thought I was referring to the panoramic roof. That's ridiculous. Lincoln could train their sales representatives better. SAD!!

But anyway. The purpose of this post...

Tonight, two of the gentlemen told me that they likely won't be able to begin any 2017 MKZ orders until the beginning of June and the car will be available in early Fall. I told them that Lincoln.com says "Summer 2016" availability. And I also told them I watched the reveal of the 2017 MKZ. "Summer 2016" was stated verbally. They assured me that it's an unrealistic date, given the changes to the front of the car. Has anyone else heard this? Or are they just anticipating delays based on past experiences?

Myron, sounds like they don't know anything either. They are not making changes they are building a new car. Why would that have any effect on the build date?

I have no clue. Maybe he meant changes as in...what's different between the 2016 to the 2017 model. But it doesn't sound like he knows what he's talking about. And if Lincoln has decided to delay the release, don't you think they would have just updated that information on the website? Hmmm...

Sounds about as bad as when I went to the auto show in Mpls last year and went to the Lincoln area and asked the "supposedly" experts. I ordered my '16 and asked  about it. They were absolutely sure the 16's wouldn't be out until Sept 15.  I of course tried to tell them about their error.. to no avail.. it isn't just Lincoln.. they all are pretty "lost" on news..  Especially bad when it is an auto show..

  • 2 weeks later...

Slowly starting to warm up to the front end...Until one more detail started to stick out. Looking at the 2017 MKZ on the Lincoln Website (as well as the Auto show debuts) and one big concern for me is the headlight housing. I see a demonstration that has the headlight area as an open area with 1 main beam and 5 vertical LED "light bulbs" on the inside (progressing to the hood). Then I see on another MKZ a Headlight with two sections, 1 big area with 4 vertical bigger LED "light bulbs" and a smaller section with 2 vertical LEDs which might be high beams. My concern is adaptive headlights. I have them, no way I want to lose them. I am wondering if Lincoln is providing an option for Adaptive Headlights by providing the two different front ends? If the two section headlight with no Adaptive Headlight is the final call, what a bummer!
