If you're waiting for an MKZ, here's how to tell when your car is built...

Recommended Posts

Ok,

If you're like me, and ordered an MKZ, you're probably going crazy from the lack of useful information coming from your dealer. It seems the internet knows a lot  more than the average guy, so here's some tips I have found that helped me go less crazy:

#1 Get your VIN. If there's no VIN on your vehicle yet, you've got a long way to go. I'm afraid, you've got a while to go.

#2 The dealer should be able to pull the VIN once your order is processed... You might have to ask him more than once... It takes a couple of weeks after the order apparently... Once you have the VIN, keep trying it at this web site:

          http://fordlabels.webview.biz/webviewhybrid/WindowSticker.aspx?vin=3LN6XXXXXXXXXXXX

using your VIN number (replace the red numbers with your VIN...). You'll probably get various error messages, but mainly VIN NOT FOUND, so I'd try about once a day... Magically, after about 2 weeks or so, the VIN number will suddenly start to work. Apparently this happens when the vehicle is now actually scheduled to be built soon. It's very reassuring to see your window sticker pop up.

#3 Now that you have a VIN, register for a Sync account here:

    http://www.syncmyride.com

Once there, create a new car, using your VIN number above. You may get errors that this VIN number doesn't exist.

#4 On this web site, periodically check the "Sync Updates" feature. Until there's actually a car out there, you'll get errors... But magically, about 10 days after you get the VIN, possibly sooner, the Sync updates will start showing what Sync version your car has, and what updates are already installed.

About two days after this started working for me, I got an email from my dealer that my car was completed, and was in shipping... The current expectation is about 20 days... I'll keep you posted....

At least for me it was nice to see that there was finally a car out there with my name on it :)

Thanks! This worked for me and I found my sync was updated on 4/23. Dealer told me my expected ship date is 5/14. Do you think it could ship sooner?

It could ship sooner - those are just estimates and Lincoln wants those MKZs out there to their owners.

I dont have the car yet I am hoping the dealer calls or emails me sometime soon, but should I go ahead and and log back on to sync and activate the complimentary SYNC Service along with the Vehicle Health Report? :headspin:

I tried the link (with my VIN supplied by the dealership today) and got this

Car Shopper Window Sticker Request

  • If you are a customer with a preferred dealership, please contact your local Ford or Lincoln dealer to request access to this window sticker.

What do I do now?

I want to head in the opposite direction...delay the building and shipping of my newly ordered mkz!  The order was placed late 7/9/18.  I hope it won't hit the dealers lot until Oct.   Is there anything I can do to delay the, process.  I'm out of state till Oct.

Hi Jdy. Other than cancel the order and reorder at a later date, there is not much you can do to delay the manufacture and delivery process of your current order. And the ordering and manufacture window for 2018's is about to end. If you can not be here to pick your car up when it's delivered, tell the Dealer you will be away and can not take delivery until you are back. They'll let you know your options.

Keep us updated and good luck.

Ok, dealer will work with my schedule.   Generally, I was told it shd arrive 8-12 weeks after the order was placed and then I have 30 days to take delivery.  It was ordered 7/9 and I've heard nothing yet, so maybe t takes a while even to process the order.  Does anyone know?  I guess dealer will give me VIN number when it's actually on the line?  I LOVE the metallic paint.

Hi Jdy.  There are many variables affecting production orders, scheduling times and scheduling dates. However, since production of the 2018 models is coming to an end next month, none of those variables will really be affecting your order.  Your car will be produced sometime late this month to mid August. I'm sure your Dealer will work with your October arrival.

Generally speaking, your Dealer will have access to your VIN well before your car is on the production line. Getting that VIN from your Dealer all depends on how efficient  and customer friendly your Dealer is. Let's hope you have a good one.

Keep us updated and good luck.

Thanks so much BBF.  The last time I ordered a car, none of this tracking was possible, so it's all new to me.  My dealer is great so I expect to be kept in the loup.  So, in your experience, how long after it's produced does it land on the lot?  It's all very exciting!

Hi Jdy. I just realized I've been assuming you ordered a 2018 and not a 2019. either way, it is not really possible to predict and since 2019 production has not yet begun, a 2019 would take longer to arrive than a 2018.

Therefore, I can only describe my own experience. I was told my 2007 MKZ would take approximately 6-8 weeks. I signed the papers and drove it off the lot 6 weeks to the day that I ordered it. I was told my 2018 MKZ would take approximately 8 weeks. I signed the papers and drove it off the lot 10 weeks and 5 days after I ordered it.

Using the tracking tools now available does make it all more exciting.

Hope everything works out for the best with your MKZ order, and good luck. ?
