MLT monthly fee?

Hey everyone, new MKZ owner, well...soon to be. I ordered a fully loaded 2016 2.0L fwd mkz almost a month ago. I've done some googling and snooping around on here as well about Ford/Lincoln releasing some of the new vehicle line up having Sync3. I read that the 2016 mkz will not be included as one of the new cars that'll come with it...So that's a bummer i guess.... but my actual question is, does My Lincoln Touch cost some type of monthly fee? I've read on here Lincoln gives 6 years of Sat based radio w/traffic alerts etc. My car will have the embedded modem etc etc, so i'll be able to use the MLT app, jut wondering if there's a fee to use these features? Or basically, is there any monthly fees associated with these cars?  Sorry 4 the incredibly long question, and thanks in advance for the answers!   Can't wait to get this car!

Welcome.  That new car anticipation is half the fun.

First, only traffic and travel link is complimentary for 6 years.  The complimentary sat radio service remains 6 months, as in past years. More info here.

AFAIK, there are no fees associated with the MLT app.  The app is free as well.  I had it for a while (Android) but deleted it since my car is a 2014 and thus doesn't have the embedded modem.  There were only a few limited services that I could access. They're adding services all the time.

Right now, the app has a pretty low rating of 3.2 on Google Play (10K downloads).

The anticipation is most certainly killing me, but kinda fun at the same time. I plan on getting the grill and wheels powder coated black shortly after getting the car, I love the black on black look. Actually, it'll be black on black on black for mine. And i opted for the aluminum trim as well, not a interior wood kinda guy, i'm only 30, and that seems a bit more geared towards an older person feel. So after the 6 months of sat radio is up, do we still get the traffic alert stuff? Or will i have to pay for sat radio to use the rest of those features? As in, is it a complete package deal or something?

I am not 100% sure but I think you would have to pay for the radio service in order for the Travel link to work.. I dont think they would give away 6 years of free stuff with out a catch....and congrats on your new car

I went ahead and downloaded mlt on my phone and I noticed it said service for 4 years. So that kinda raises concern. Seemed like it was talking about the app being free for 4 years...then Idk

Another app I use is SYNC Destinations....You can enter an address through the app and send it to SYNC... Then all you do is when you get into your car Press the voice command and say services and it will download the address to your Nav.. Saves a lot time and very simple to use .. It also has other features that I use as well

It doesn't appear that you have to pay for the audio package to get the free Traffic and Travel Link from this press release.  I guess you'd have to call Sirius to make sure.  It might be free to the customer but I'm sure Ford is paying Sirius for it anyway.

I've had Travel Link since 2009 but, honestly, I'm using it less and less as time goes on.  Similar info is available on your smart phone,e.g., Waze for traffic.

Well that is just plain rude! ;)

Lol, i apologize, not at all trying to be rude, obviously everyone is entitled to like what they like...and i'm simply not a wood grain dash kinda guy.  : )   I am indeed hoping that that aluminum trim is actual metal though, and not some kinda plastic metal "look a like". Brushed aluminum is absolutely gorgeous to me!

Well, I am an "older person" but I don't care for wood trim.  I had 2010 and 2012 MKZ Sports and part of the package was aluminum trim in place of the wood in the standard model.  I was all set to order the aluminum trim on my 2014 but Lincoln, in its infinite wisdom, only makes it available with the black interior, which is my last choice.  So I'm stuck with wood but it's so dark in my car (Light Dune), that you can hardly see it anyway.

I have the App on my iPhone and it works great with my embedded-modem 2015 MKZ.  It's fun to start the car remotely, lock, unlock, etc.  The App was updated over the weekend with a new look and features.

Yes, it says its for 4 years in the FAQ with the App, but at this point the remote technology is so new Ford doesn't know what they're going to do as far as costs after the 4 years is up.  I say enjoy it and worry about the cost later.  There's not much you're going to be able to do about it anyway.

BTW, to get the App and Sync Destinations working properly, the FIRST thing you should do is go to the Lincoln Owner's site and register your car.

https://owner.lincoln.com/your-vehicle.html

Once you register, all the info is transferred to the two apps.  Also register your mobile phone number so you can use Vehicle Health Report, Sync Services, etc.  One fun thing to do is to get a destination point using Mapquest on your home computer.  You can then send the point to the Sync system in your car via Sync Services where it gets plugged right into your Nav system.  I use this all the time, and it's great.  Sync Destinations does essentially the same thing, plot your route on on the app on your iPad then send it to your car!  You can also save your most used destination points, like home, work, your favorite bar, the strip club, etc.  Fun!

There's quite a lot of technology between the apps, website, and the car, so have fun with it.

Oh, btw, one of the most frustrating things to get working was the in-car Wifi.  Anybody else use it?  I could connect the car to my home wifi network, but why?  There's really no use as far as I can see, so I turned that bit off.  More useful was the mobile hotspot done through your phone.  This allows, for example, kids in the back with Wifi iPads to connect to the car and use the internet through the cell phone connected to Sync.  I've set my system up to make this work, but have not had guests in the vehicle to test it extensively.

Loving the feed back guys!  And your right about theres nothing we can do after the 4 years. So i guess, time will tell! And i also agree with the wood trim comments. Lincoln most certainly has made the placement/amount of wood trim quite elegant, they didn't over due it in these cars, which is nice. And having to have ebony interior just to get the aluminum trim is kinda stupid IMO, but what can you do. Honestly, if i had a dune, tan leather interior, i honestly would probably rather the wood trim anyway, aluminum doesn't seem it would match very well with that interior color. But i digress. Any of yall by chance have the aluminum trim and can tell me the quality of the material? Is it indeed metal? Or is it like a plastic looking metal?

It was genuine aluminum in the previous generation cars so I assume it continues to be.

It connected to my home network right away but, like you, I couldn't find a practical use for it.

Good to hear, this'll be my 1st Lincoln, so i don't have experience with their vehicles previously. Hopefully they do continue that quality though, and like you said, they should. I can't imagine a manufacture cheaping out on something like that on a $50k+ vehicle.

As I have a 14 MKZ, my traffic/weather Travel link info was only complementary for 6 months but I did like how it integrated with the NAV.

I am not a SAT radio guy either but I wanted the Travel Link. You can just subscribe to those services with SirusXM. I paid $75.72 for the year including taxes

thats good to know, that we have hat option. But now with apps like Waze and many many more that essentially do the same thing xm traffic does, its almost pointless. I guess its nice, to have those features on the in car screen though. But eventually i think technology will allow all apps to basically be mirrored on cars infotainment screens
