rah1723 Posted July 10, 2015 Share Posted July 10, 2015 so I went and got gas.. came out.. and the 2 week old MKZ hybrid is dead..no key found.. called the wife and got the other set..that started it... is there a workaround on this situation? being so new, it can't be the batteries.. can something dis orient the signal?? the message center did say when I first stopped to restart.. but I didn't.. crazy.. that's when you question new tech..vs an old type key... JoeBrown Posted July 10, 2015 Share Posted July 10, 2015 I've never had that to happen. However there is one location in my City (that I know of) that gives me a key missing error. I just ignore it and everything is OK. I'm sure there's a radio signal at that location that is causing it because everytime I come back it happens. I did read up in the manual and there is a way to do it. In my case I ignore it because it continues to work even with the error message. Place the remote in the backup slot (B) at the bottom of the cupholder.With the key in this position, press the brake pedal, then the START button to switch the ignition on and start your vehicle. I was at my hairdresser's and brought him outside to show him the car and couldn't get the doors to open. After numerous times of hitting the button on the remote it finally opened. Then once inside the car I couldn't get it to power on, still said no key detected. Just kept hitting away at the buttons on the remote and it finally recognized I had the fob and I was able to get it to start. Then the message came back on saying no key detected, but it was running so I was able to drive home. I took it in for service and was told they could not find anything and brushed it off as potential outside interference. Which I find odd because I also own a 2007 Nissan Altima with a key fob, and in the 8 years I've had it I never once had that issue. Then the day after my service appointment for the key fob, my check engine light came on. Car is back in the shop today. I have a feeling the response is again going to be they couldn't find anything. I am not happy at all to have my two week old car in the shop for a second time. When your fob didn't work did you try the keypad just to rule out an electrical malfunction vs. intelligent access malfunction? If you're ever locked out of your car, there's a physical key inside your fob. See your owner's guide for info. If you have no further incidents of this type then it well very may have been outside interference. This is also explained the OG. The fact that you never had this issue with your Altima doesn't mean that this car won't. It's a different system. Your dealer should be able to find what triggered the CEL in your car, as it sets a code in the car's diagnostic system. Yes, it's irritating but these things happen. My daughter's Mazda set a CEL when the car had less than 50 miles on it. Presumably, Lincoln gave you a loaner car. Do let us know what they find. I had just rode through the Lincoln lot 20 minutes earlier. I rode back to the dealership with "No Key Detected" displayed and arrived about ten minutes prior to them closing for the day. I was always able to open/lock the doors using the fob and even though is says "no key detected" it started up just fine. It happened each time I was in that location. Rick. I can attest to the Kwik Trip comment.. I don't know what type of RF KT would be using in the pumps or gas station but almost every time without fail - at any Kwik Trip I get the not found message. I took it to the dealer and there is a TSB which applied to my MKz but it still happens. I throw the key in the center console and all is good. Only happens near the pumps too.
